It’s about another time too!

It’s about another time too!

Noon, warm and cloudless, completely clear skies.

Arriving to the temple gardens in black combat fatigues, dressed as if ready for a mission, Kei wasn’t in his usual temple wear and there was a lot of his mind, he had no real way to hide that fact at present. It had been a rocky few months since his absence, and it was honestly surprising but great that one of his old students had wanted to get back in contact since leaving for a few months previous.

Standing in the garden, the only other items on Kei were his black utility belt, black boots and grin waiting for his apprentice, he was happy, the first good news for the Epicanthix in a while, he was just looking forward to see how the padawan had done or been, more than he realised till he was standing here. Resting his hands behind his back, one wrist gripped firmly and somewhat tense. The first thing Jaret would find waiting for him is a firm handshake from the grizzled Master, a nod and an apology.

First he had to think of what to say.

Jaret was over the moons when he found out that his Master had returned. He didn't know why he had left, nor where he had gone, but now he was back. The padawan had been waiting to finally see his Master again, and now was the time.

Jaret had thrown on his ever present brown cloak (not that he needed it on this beautiful day), a simple shirt and pants. He wore a belt with the training saber that Kei had given him before his disappearance.

When Jaret finally laid eyes upon his Master, clad in black combat gear he hesitated for a moment. What was he to do? But he threw all such thoughts aside and walked towards his Master.

Whatever he looked like outwardly Kei moved to assure the young student immediately with a firm handshake and a trademark grin. It would take more than a rough patch to take that away from the Jedi Master, “Jaret” his Master called.

“Sorry for having to leave so suddenly,” Kei said sincerely, asking for his own padawan's forgiveness for the months apart, because it was the right thing to do. “Anything you want to ask me? Please do” About the time away, or anything on his mind he could right now.

The Epicanthix replaced his hand behind his back, moving between the soldier and guardian in him at a pace. The aura around Kei wasn’t dark or foreboding just unusually tense in the muscles and expression, but relaxing to be back in the academy grounds it seemed.

“What can I teach you today?” His Master said happily, a way of finding out where his apprentice had reached in his studies, or self practice, and easing them into another session together.

Before the handshake came, Jaret had just enough time to wipe the sweat from his hand his pants. Kei's grin was contagious, forcing Jaret to give a litte smile in return.

"You don't have to apologise at all!" Like usual the words jumped from Jaret's mouth. He couldn't help it, it was natural for him. "I'm sure you had your reasons." Jaret said just as quickly. He seemed like a puppy, who's owner had just returned from a long day at work. Excited.

"But could I maybe ask-" He got no further before looking towards the ground, looking for a rock to kick around between his feet, although there were none to be found. Maybe could I ask where you were, if that's okay?" Jaret asked as he brought his eyes back up to meet Kei's.

Kei nodded scratching his chin, “walk with me.” He gripped his hands in his wrists firmly behind him, and smiled, taking a steady pace around the grounds. “Family tests us, more than anything Sith could,” his grin reaffirmed, many people saw this, or had this experience in some form over their lifetime, their own unannounced struggles or things they dealt with. The sanctum being more realistic in their view of life, realised this, and rather than isolate people, helped them.

“Had to deal with an issue that will come back again, each time easier.” Kei admitted, “things go around.” The walk took them past Master’s and padawans training in what was a relaxed happy environment, they’d done wonders with the academy here, the teachers, it had only grown in his absence.

“Today is your day, we can train or go on a mission for the temple.” Kei added as they came to a stop near an old tree in the gardens, a very old tree, one Maya and Matsu had once used as part of a lesson. He was at Jaret’s disposal for whatever he needed, if he was ready for a mission that's what they'd do, but he was leaving that choice and responsibility in the hands of his apprentice.

Jaret followed along, listening to his Master's wisdom. Kei had passed many tests that the padawan was yet to pass. It was a gorgeous day, and Jaret was just happy to have his Master back, to help him along with his journey. "Things that I will have to deal with eventually?"

Now Kei had given Jaret a choice, training or a mission. Jaret mind flooded with the possibilities. He could swing his saber, and he could use the force - to an extent. Jaret began to bubble with excitement. "what would the mission involve!?" The words shot from his mouth, like a pod from the starting line.

Things he would have to deal with, that deserved an answer to his student. “Attachments you form in life are healthy when they are made to healthy things, they test us, when they are misused, mistreated or harmed.” Kei admitted honestly, only his philosophy was to look at these things and deal with them as a Jedi would, not fly off the handle no matter his personal feelings, it allowed for a less harmful result all around.

He looked serious but also like he was trying his best to help, to prepare Jaret for his life ahead, “remember I asked you who you were when you first came here.” Kei paused at the door, typing in the combination for entry so they could walk into the temple proper.

“That was tested in me last month.” He brushed down his dusty fatigues, and his grin came back, “like it will be in you, but you are a good person, remember that, remember this place, and these lessons, that's what will set your course back home.” Kei cleared his throat, it wasn’t often Kei talked as much as this, and he felt his throat dry. They finally reached the ongoing mission board, and he began scanning for tasks that would best suit them both.

The one thing that worried Jaret the most in his life of a Jedi. Attachments. He had read in the past the Jedi weren't aloud to have attachments and he always wondered how? How did they get along without forming attachments? All things that Jaret would need to ask Kei, but they could wait. "Is everything all right now?" He knew that he might be pushing it with the amount of questions, but Jaret was just making sure that his Master was okay.

As they enter the inner temple, Jaret looked about taking in the gorgeous decor that littered the temple. He stood patiently while Kei looked over the board, although his eyes scanned it aswell, seeing the endless supply of jobs for the temple.

There were a lot of jobs that needed attending to, while the galaxy fought its wars, the Jedi behind the scenes worked tirelessly to either repair the damage or help those in need, it was staggering how much work needed to be done, and how few of them there were trying to do it.

Kei's grin was not quite so solid when he asked the final question, "as good as it can be." He answered honestly, and tapped his padawan on the shoulder for the concern showed, giving him a nod. Jaret was going to make a fine Jedi, he could tell, he had known from when they'd started training together. There was no concern for the amount of questions asked, he didn't even flinch, Jaret would hopefully learn he could ask him anything at any time, but that open channel needed to be rebuilt between them.

"A call for aid, miners are trapped," Kei nodded scanning the details, "more details when we get there, take only what you can carry with you." He advised, so the padawan wasn't packing too much for the trip ahead, they'd have the rest ready for them there. Amadis checked the galactic time on his chrono, "meet you in an hour at the docking bay."

The gentle touch on Jaret's shoulder, by his Master told Jaret that thing would be alright. And that was all he needed.

Now Jaret rushed into action, he began sprinting away to his room. "I'll see you there!"

The Padawan raced off packed a small bag of little belongings, before meeting Kei and the docking bay.
