STRENGTHS
  • Hunt Them Down - Designed from the bottom deck up to be an escort frigate, the IST engineers ensured that the escort ship could also serve as pirate interdiction as well, as requested by the customer. Ion weapon placement, tractor beam placement, and the speed of the vessel make this ship well suited for hawking down pirates.
  • In the Nick of Time - The Intrusion-class frigate is designed to be able to escort its charge and never be far from its side. As such, the engineers of the Intrusion-class made sure to outfit the vessel with Interstellar Starship Technologies' hyperdrive, which the company specializes in for most every one of the vessels it constructs. In this way, no matter how fast the hyperdrive of their charge is, they are able to arrive moments before to address any threats as the protector.
WEAKNESSES
  • Not That Kind of Frigate - While the Intrusion-class frigate is designed for combat, it would have a hard time standing toe-to-toe with modern-era warships that are packed to the gills with weaponry, however it could certainly outrun many of them. Regardless, it slug it out with frigates and large ships designed for war.
  • Not The Rear! - If there is an area that lacks firepower, it is the aft portion of the Intrusion-class. While it has plenty of firepower broadsides and forward, many of its turrets cannot spin to an advantageous angle to truly provide any sort of firepower deterrent aft.
  • Let Me Rest A Second - The Instrusion, while having a fast hyperdrive, cannot spin the drive up time and time again. While capable of microjumps, the ship requires 20 minutes in between each hyperdrive jump.

The IST-550, like all of Interstellar Starship Technologies ships, are designed from the ground up with a purpose and function in mind. In every ship, there is a way each one of them can be utilized with optimum efficiency and economy of action--the Intrusion-class is no different. It is designed as a rugged, fast escort frigate, that has many tools at its disposal to render opposition defenseless. In addition, it allowed for 2 squadrons of onboard starfighter and support ships.

While most ships built in this era are produced with armor that is exorbitant in price, building one ship is enough to bankrupt entire planets, IST is still a believer in modern-era durasteel. The protection is only slightly less than the more exotic materials, but billions of credits are saved per ship, thus allowed mass production to truly function. IST is a believer in this philosophy, thus why it is a favorite to reasonably minded sovereignties that do not spend every tax credit it receives on a handful of advanced ships.

Malicar Malicar , I'll be your factory judge for this submission.

SQUADRON COUNT: Low (2 Squadrons)

Only starfighters have a squadron count. On a capital ship templates, we have a hangar area instead:

  • Hangar Space: (Please provide the amount of fighters/support craft this submission can hold in it's hangar by count of Squadrons, which hold 12 average Starfighters. The higher your squadron count, the lower your Armament and number of advanced systems should be. )
200m [Base: 0 | Very Low: 0 | Low: 0 | Average: 1 | High: 2 | Very High: 3 | Extreme: 4 ]
350m [Base: 0 | Very Low: 0 | Low: 1 | Average: 2 | High: 3 | Very High: 4 | Extreme: 5 ]
500m [Base: 0 | Very Low: 1 | Low: 2 | Average: 3 | High: 4 | Very High: 5 | Extreme: 6 ]
  • Hangar Allocations: (This is the allocated amounts of starfighters and support craft (dropships, shuttles, gunships, etc) this submission can hold in its hangar based on the maximum hangar space capacity listed above)
    • Starfighters: x squadrons
    • Support Craft: x squadrons

Please use this part of the template instead of the "Squadron Count".

With that said, we typically round down right now when it comes to deciding size and embarked squadrons. In other words, a 400 meter long ship would use the hangar ratings for a 350 meter long ship, so a "low" rating for the Intrusion right now actually should be 1 squadron.

Alternatively, you can increase the size of the Intrusion to 500 meters and keep the two squadrons.

HYPERDRIVE CLASS: 0.5 (Very High) / Backup: x 6

Typically, if a ship is going faster than x1, there should be a commensurate weakness to go with it. A lot of times, people will lose a rating to compensate for it, but that's not strictly necessary. However, I do not think that the current weaknesses balance for this unusually fast hyperdrive.

Gir Quee Gir Quee Thanks for the review. Here are the changes I made:
  • Changed Length to 500m and kept the Low rating, giving Hanger Space of 2
  • Changed the speed of the Hyperdrive from 0.5 to 0.8 due to not having a strong enough Disadvantage

Malicar Malicar , it looks like you still have "squadron count" listed in the sub, though your balancing for the hangar with the length is good. This is what we'd like to see for that:

  • Hangar Space: Low: 2 squadrons
  • Hangar Allocations:
    • Starfighters: 1 squadron
    • Support Craft: 1 squadron

Changed the speed of the Hyperdrive from 0.5 to 0.8 due to not having a strong enough Disadvantage

What weakness are you currently trying to use to balance out for having a faster hyperdrive than normal?

Malicar Malicar , your new weakness looks promising and a good idea for balancing out its speed. If you could provide a bit more detail on how long that is, we should be good to go. The issue with that vagueness is that someone could literally say means "just a second", which isn't much of a weakness (it probably would at least take several seconds minimum to accurately calculate a new jump). A cooldown time of something like 20-30 minutes would probably be solid.
