Milo Tyranne
Character
- Island One -
Classification - Residential/administrative orbital habitat.
Location - In Lagrangian orbit above Hafnip.
Affiliation - Hafnip Federation.
Population - Approximately 20,000 civilians and government officials.
Defenses - None on the habitat itself; defended by a nearby fortress asteroid administered by the Hafnip Federation Defensive Navy.
Points of Interest -
Island One is the capital of the Hafnip Federation, and incorporates a number of notable administrative locations. These are in addition to the normal infrastructure of a sphere type space habitat, also included below.
- Description/History -
Island One is a sphere type space habitat. Among the first orbital habitat types built by the Miln in any number, the sphere type incorporates a habitat section in the shape of its namesake, about 16 kilometers in diameter and capable of housing over 20,000 people. Due to the primitive nature of Miln technology compared to Galactic standards, Miln space habitats do not incorporate artificial gravity; instead, the colonies spin in order to generate centrifugal force on their inside walls, simulating gravity with the resulting downward "pull". Miln habitats are also dependent on solar energy for heat, light and most of their power, reflecting it inside the residential areas through a complex system of mirrors and windows.
Is with most Miln space habitats, sphere types are unarmed, unshielded and surprisingly fragile despite their enormous size. They do however incorporate robust life support systems capable of recycling water, waste and atmosphere using carefully engineered artificial biospheres. On-board agriculture is also capable of comfortably feeding the entire population.
Though uncommon before the Miln-Imperial War, the smaller resource and labor requirements of the sphere type compared to the cylinder type meant that 6 more were constructed when production of new residential habitats resumed, in addition to the single pre-war example which survived.
The lone pre-war era survivor of its type, Island One is the capital of the Hafnip Federation, orbiting at the L1 Lagrange point. One of the first colonies constructed by the Miln, it has always served as the administrative center of the Federation government, except during the war, when it was badly damaged and the government temporarily relocated to an anonymous resource asteroid.
Repaired after the war and restored as the center of government, Island One boasts a population of around 20,000, and is the only civilian territory directly administered by the Central Assembly.
Intent - This location is intended to be the administrative center of the Hafnip Federation, the NPC government of the Twenteska I system. It is also intended to provide an example of a Miln sphere type space habitat.

Island One is the capital of the Hafnip Federation, and incorporates a number of notable administrative locations. These are in addition to the normal infrastructure of a sphere type space habitat, also included below.
The headquarters of the Hafnip Federation Central Assembly, Central Assembly Hall is the venue of the Miln governing council. A large geodesic dome structure, it straddles the equatorial river of the main habitat sphere. The dome is composed of transparent panels, allowing anyone to view the proceedings within.
Located along the sphere's equator, the administrative district incorporates the headquarters of many federal agencies within the Hafnip Federation. Well planned, it is purposely designed to be simple for both government officials and average citizens to navigate, with larger agencies located nearer to the Central Assembly. Lobbyist organizations are not allowed to keep offices in this district.
Located on the "slopes" of the sphere, the business and residential areas of Island One are where the general population lives and works. Well planned and maintained, it very much has a small-town feel to it, with shops, offices and homes folded into the landscape.
Located outside the spherical main habitat, a total of 14 torus structures house the station's agricultural areas. An important part of the habitat's infrastructure, the green space in the tori is integral to the recycling of water, waste and atmosphere, besides growing abundant food for the population.
Areas of cultivation within the tori include fruit orchards, vegetable and cereal crop fields. Zones are also set aside for specialized crops (such as ingredients for organic plastics) and food for export, as well as the raising of livestock (which tend to be edible insects in the case of the Miln).

As with all large space habitats built by the Miln, Island One incorporates comprehensive port facilities. Located in zero gravity structures at either end of the habitat, the "sunward" end incorporates facilities for heavy freight handling, while the "spaceward" end is reserved for passenger traffic.
