Ironside Armour

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

• Intent: To design a powerful heavy armour for Firemane to use in battle. This armour will be extremely durable and useful for carrying heavy weapons, but be severely disadvantaged by slow speed, low agility and a weakness to faster opponents.
• Image Source: Here. By Alien Tan on Deviant Art.
• Canon Link: N/A
• Primary Source: Inspiration from Titan Assault Armour by [member="Draco Vereen"]
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
• Manufacturer: Firemane Industries & Technology
• Affiliation: Closed-Market , Firemane
• Model: FM-IS1a
• Modularity: Wrist weapons can be added, including vibroblade, flamethrower or concealed blaster. Can carry a Firestorm launcher, jetpack can be fitted if launcher is not.
• Production: Minor
• Material: Durasteel-neutronium alloy plates, armorweave joints. Agrinium reinforcement for protection against EMP.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
• Classification: Heavy assault.
• Weight: Very Heavy
• Resistances:
- Blasters (And other plasma type weapons): Very High
- Kinetic: Very High
- Lightsabers: Average – resists glancing strikes and contact, can be penetrated by heavy stab or slash
- Other: Sonic: Low, EMP/Ion/Lightning: Average, Elemental (except lightning): High

SPECIAL FEATURES
• Can carry a Firestorm Launcher on its shoulders. Alternatively can carry a portable shattercannon on the shoulders.
• Augments the wearer’s strength by enabling them to lift 5 times their own weight for a prolonged period.
• Wearer can carry weapons in one or both hands as well as use the shoulder mounted weapon.
• HUD with targeting and encrypted communicator built in.
• Combat De-Ionizer.
• Magnetised boots.
• Temperature Regulator.
• Internal air supply (60 minutes)
• Energy Sink.
• Vacuum sealed.
• Sonic dampers in helmet only.
Strengths:
• Strong. The Ironside armour allows the wearer to boost their strength by multiple times. This allows them to carry a heavy weapon or deliver crushing blows in melee.
• Resilient. The Ironside is very tough, able to take all but the heaviest blaster and kinetic rounds without falling. It also offers decent protection against elemental and electrical damage.
• Carrier. The Ironside can carry a shattercannon or Firestorm on its broad shoulders, quite apart from the weapons carried in its arms.
Weaknesses:
• Slow. The Ironside is very, very slow. It slows the wearer to a crawl. It also can mean that in some situations such as soft mud or weight sensitive terrain it can be impossible to proceed.
• Heavy. The heavy armour plating and protection comes with the downside of weight. The sheer bulk of the suit makes agility impossible, and rapidly turning almost impossible. Further, even if a jetpack is installed, it is limited to short ‘hops’ rather than all out flight.
• Joints. The armour plates have weaker joints, especially behind the knees, under the arms or through the neck. A fast enemy can get into position to strike these before the wearer can turn.
• Lightsabres. The Ironside’s protection against lightsabres is relatively weak. A glancing strike or deflection will not piece, but a full-powered stab or cut can pierce.
• Sonic. Though the helmet is protected from loud noises, the armour is relatively vulnerable to sonic shockwaves and attacks.
• Reactive. If the Ironside is carrying a Firestorm, the missiles contained within are vulnerable to being set off by repeated firepower. A hit here will doom the wearer.
DESCRIPTION
On the battlefields of the galaxy courage and morale will only take one so far; that is where armour comes in. Firemane has developed good suits of armour for general infantry, but has been lacking a good heavy support suit, relying on purchased units from other companies.

With the development of the Firestorm launcher, a suit of armour was needed to carry such a potent weight, but also be useable in combat. Thus, the Ironside came into being. Using thick plates of armour and full hermetic sealing, the armour can operate on ground or space equally well. The heavy armour can resist all but the heaviest firepower from kinetic or blaster weapons. The exceptions to this are of course lucky shots to the joints or heavy artillery or tank mounted variants which can punch through the armour.
Against lightsabres, the armour is less resistant, though better than Stormtrooper armour by far.

Ironsides are rarely deployed as whole units, but in ones or twos in squads to carry heavy weapons or to form an assault squad in a larger platoon to smash an enemy front line. They work best at close quarters in the latter case, or for support in the former.

The Ironside armour has drawbacks to balance its strengths, but overall is a very effective suit of armour to bring to a battle.
