SPECIAL FEATURES
  • It can be a relatively effective substitute for metal and stone in building and equipment making.
Strengths:
  • Durable - Early Sociph and some nomadic tribes continue to use Ironbark for armor and building materials. In terms of modern usage it is often used more in blasters to provide a lighter alternative to metal and in very rare cases armor. Against a blaster it can hold it's own decently well but it shouldn't be relied upon for an extended firefight or high power weapons. Glancing shots will do little but chip it.
  • Not very conductive - Being a wood entails that it doesn't conduct electricity as much as a metal would, though, because it still contains metal fibers there would still be a charge. It would mainly be insulated.
Weaknesses:
  • Obsolete - With growing industry on Antisoch and the introduction of outside material ironbark is seeing less and less usage as time moves on. Other things are simply more effective.
DESCRIPTION
Before the Sociph had any knowledge of how to work metals they would use this rare tree bark for their weapons and armor. It is believed that ancestors to the Sociph were actually able to harness a sort of radiation from an unknown material. As they are wont to do they used this in weapons and almost exterminated their species. The life that was left learned to adapt to the relative wasteland that was now their planet. The trees, what few were left, actually developed the ability to absorb trace amounts of metal in the ground in place of water. What would have been standard tree bark was replaced with a certain kind of iron. This in itself is a two fold advantage for the tree in that it both doesn't start for lack of nutrients and is harder to damage.
