Intergalactic Police Force Anyone?

I was thinking about making a company/minor faction which is basically an intergalactic mercenary police force. The corporation would basically operate as so: Planet, or faction, pays the corporation monthly for the specialized technology and forces of the corporation.

  • These forces would then do normal police things, set up local police stations, patrol the streets, basically replacing the local police forces.
  • These police officers would be given the full weight of the law within the planet/faction that signed the contract.
  • These officers would, of course, be held to the highest moral expectations and should any break their laws they have sworn to uphold, they will be taken off world to the corporation's headquarters, tried, and then imprisoned or executed depending on the severity of their crimes

Those would be the tasks of the average day police officers, yet there would also be a special ops unit.

  • The special ops unit would be the elite of the elite, put through rigorous military training (maybe even Mandalorian training if I can arrange it).
  • These special ops would fight crime syndicates, crime gangs, religious or political extremists, and even corporate malpractice/problems.
  • With each successful raid a new fine would be sent to the faction/planet they're working for.
  • I imagine most of the player characters would be apart of these teams, so lots of Roleplay based on covert ops, fighting crime syndicates, etc.

Now, some of you may be thinking Where would all the prisoners go? Well the plan is that the corporation would have a few dozen massive civilian stations that basically act like state of the art prisons, with smaller better-armed ones for the super dangerous criminals and what have you. These stations would also be where the trials of these criminals would proceed, so they would be in neutral space or space where the factions will have guaranteed them total autonomy.

Anyway, this is just an idea. I'm probably going to make the corporation anyway, but whether or not people will want to join it will determine whether it is a minor faction or not. It will ultimately be a Subsidiary of APEX, who will design the ships, weapons, armor and etc for the standard units (although the elite special forces can bring their own if they want). Although they will be owned by APEX, APEX will not intervene with their investigations in anyway.

So, who likes the idea?

The idea is to stay politically and ideologically indifferent, and they wouldn't set up where they aren't wanted.

Don't have much lawlessness going on in my sector. It's a safe little bubble of the Galaxy.

So more than likely the CSA would refrain from making any contracts at this time.

I understand the concept behind this one and even sympathize as it's to some extent extremely required for a Galaxy at War with itself yet trying to argue what's right and wrong, whether by legal or cultural standards across billions of peoples and worlds, really does resonate with what [member="Darth Carnifex"] has said.

What's right in one persons eyes is wrong in anothers, hence why Imperial law works for one system while Democracy reigns in another. How do you police both of these without conforming to some set of rules such as the agreement that was tried to be put into play by [member="Kei Raxis"] and others not long ago, the result being as he said, further warring parties being introduced and inflamed.

Great dream, yet sadly impossible to police without becoming the terrorist yourself.

That concept makes it practically impossible to have multi-planet groups such as Empires or Federations (let alone positive relationships between these major powers), ultimately (especially in the Star Wars universe) there are universal rights and wrongs (murder, even within the Galactic Empire, was considered wrong), as reflected by the dark and the light sides of the force. Yes there are many ambiguous gray areas but those can be fleshed out in signing up a contract as both parties would have to compromise, but ultimately what the corporation would not back down on such things as murder, rape, etc, and if a planet wouldn't compromise on any of those then they simply wouldn't work on them.

I may have been a bit harsh in the original post, but basically, the group would not attempt to enforce anything that whoever hires them, they aren't there really to enforce any particular ideology, just to uphold the laws themselves whatever they may be.

Would this then mean that the Policing movement/Corporation would agree to police the laws employed by each government within their given territory. What I mean is that would they enforce Galactic Alliance law in the sector of the GA, and do the same for the First Order in theirs yet not come to choose sides nor favor the other? Murder isn't always so black and white unfortunately (and I would hope the second crime there you mentioned is never RP'd here on Chaos), political assassination and stories driven forward by Factions could become a problem were there to be outsiders trying to police their own laws.

As I said I understand and would like to see this succeed but the diversity between factions on Chaos is a hard sell to convince everyone to commit to a singular purpose. Even one as morally straight forward as this; frankly we all need law and order to survive but then, that's half the point of military/government factions. Alas, with Chaos it's rare that people are able to agree on anything.

Pessimistic as I may sound, I'm on the fence. While the Systems Alliance may not be involved here, as a Dark Jedi, this is still something I would consider fighting for, only with less of a lawful driven purpose in my previous exchange.

I assume this means both the Jedi and the Sith would be held accountable for their crimes, without any added bias towards any one side?

(Before I say anything else I don't expect the second to ever be RPed and I agree with you that I hope it never will)

But yes, precisely! First Order law will be held accountable in First Order space, same for Mandalorian law in the Mandalorian empire and etc. The democratic alliances will be a bit more difficult as each individual planet has more autonomy, but it can work.

I was thinking that what could happen that in the beginning of their deployment, the corporation would work side by side by the local police force, but slowly replaces them, hiring on previous police officers or giving them a large severance pay if they would want that. After that, they may keep advisors from the government they're working with until they feel comfortable with the new law system.

If the corporation had an alignment it would be LN, or Lawful Neutral, they uphold all laws no matter their particular preference to them.

The only difference is, when a criminal is arrested they'd be considered 'corporate property' instead of prisoners of any state or planet.

It's working towards a mutually advantageous and morally just cause which is why I like this idea; whether it's possibly here on Chaos or not I'm not certain though I would be willing to have Veiere contribute towards funding and take part in threads, were he not currently undergoing trial for Murder in the Systems Alliance.

I do hope you find traction in this one, yet do be prepared to meet with argument as we've seen before in the Russen Accords (Spelling there...).

Good luck, Brae !

I do not think the idea is entirely impossible, and in fact wouldn't be against some interactions with such a force in the future with the Fel Empire. I just think you will need to be pin point accurate on what your group does, and does not do.

[member="Brae"] This is Star Wars. This is fiction. Creativity deserves to be encouraged, and I am sure there would be those willing to help you out.

It doesn't need to be anything dramatic to bother Major Factions and their galactic games, but you could keep things low-key and establish stories with willing writers across the board to RP out your adventures and such.

If something doesn't quite grab the attention of writers, mould it until it does. Everyone deserves a shot to be creative and have fun with an idea out there. Good luck.

I've been sitting on a character idea because I wasn't sure where they would fit, but I would be 100% down with this, it would be awesome!

It might be tough, but honestly I've been keeping an eye on the Kurs Dozen minor faction and they've been doing some awesome stuff and having a lot of success, I can't see why this wouldn't as well.
