- [+] Mass Management: The IMS is essentially built for planetary management and administration. It can optimize efficiency in many areas such as: power regulation, traffic control, emergency management, and can even optimize industrial systems.
- [+] Hardened: As it should be, the IMS is safeguarded from most remote and direct slicing attempts and poses quite the challenge for even the most skilled slicers.
- [-] Upkeep: For a computer of this size and magnitude, the IMS requires a massive amount of power, which normally isn't very cheap.
- [-] Rampancy: Due to its nature and ability to develop a consciousness, planetary administrators who aren't careful with their maintenance may see their power slipping away as the IMS develops its individualism and personal ideals.
- [-] Non-Combat Oriented: This infrastructure system is not a combat system and cannot be modified to be so. Using a computer to efficiently manage your forces is out of the question.
Drawing inspiration from their own BRT Supercomputer, Aegis Systems felt the urge to make something far better. Using top of the line multicore processors, massive amounts of RAM, and lots of gabonna memory crystals, they've created the Infrastructure Management System (IMS).
Physically, it looks like your usual supercomputer mainframe albeit slightly larger. It can normally take up an entire room on its own. There's nothing significant or special about its hardware aside from possessing the absolute best on the market.
The purpose of the IMS is planetary, or regional management. It's able to connect to millions of networks or mainframes and has the capacity to nearly perfectly optimize efficiency in numerous municipal and industry systems. Therefore the primary mission of every IMS is efficiency. Lest waste, less expenditure, and less hassle for its governing officials/administration.
In addition to those functions, the IMS is heavily hardened against most attempts at slicing and infiltration. It possesses several intrusion prevention systems, firewalls, and socketguards to protect it both remotely and physically from attacks. While its defenses are not impossible to overcome, they are very capable of stopping most slicers dead in their tracks.
However, all of this comes with a drawback. The upkeep is the heaviest hitting for governments. It takes a lot of energy upkeep to remain online and requires constant monitoring and maintenance. Due to its advanced nature, all IMS's eventually develop a consciousness similar to that of most droids and ultimately end up having personalities and quirks of their own. This can lead to rampancy, if the IMS is left unmonitored for reasonable durations of time. In this case, it may pursue its own agenda and otherwise compromise key planetary systems for its own gain.
Aegis Systems is not responsible should your system gain rampancy.
