Strengths:
  • Portable- Allows medics to transport bacta tanks to even the most remote locations with relative ease. Before use, the IBT MK1 fits in a rucksack-sized storage pack, complete with supportive frame. Weighs 10.5 kilograms.
  • Effective- Bacta submersion therapy is one of the most effective medical treatments known to science. Will keep all but the most severely injured patients alive until they can reach a trauma center.
  • Doubles as a stretcher- The frame for the ruck extends out into a stretcher. The inflatable chamber is designed with attach points to hook to frame. Kit also comes with two repulsor modules, one for each end of the extended frame. Repulsors are adjustable to allow the stretcher to hover as little as 1 cm from ground and as high as 1 meter, depending on tactical situation.
Weaknesses:
  • Single Use- The IBT MK1 is a single use device. After the seal has been broken, it may not be repackaged.
  • Limited to 12 Hours of Operation- The IBT MK1 is no substitute for proper trauma care. Due to the limited bacta supply that can be carried with the pack, it is only rated for 12 hours of use. After that, the bacta will become increasingly ineffective and, eventually, toxic. In most cases, 12 hours of bacta submersion will be enough to stabilize the patient, and they can be moved to a new IBT MK1 if necessary, but 12 hours is the limit to a single unit's effective lifespan.
  • Size Constraints- The IBK MK1 is limited in size. Beings taller than 2 meters will not be able to fit in the bacta chamber. Beings heavier than 150 kilograms will overload the repulsor modules. Specialized units for larger species are in the works, but are not readily available at this time.

Description: The IBT MK1 will one day be the combat medic's best friend. Relatively lightweight and portable, the IBT MK1 can be carried places that a normal bacta chamber cannot. There are very few injuries that can't be treated with bacta submersion therapy, and this technology has the ability to take that level of care to the battlefield and beyond.

Operation is simple. The medic will assess the patient. While they are doing so, their assistant will prep the IBT MK1. Remove collapsed container from pack, and break the seal on the sterile packaging. Caution: Once seal is broke, unit may not be repackaged. Extend the frame into stretcher mode. Place collapsed tank on stretcher and unroll, clipping the tank to the stretched at designated points. Once the tank has been unrolled, trigger compressed air cylinder. This will inflate the tank.

Tank unseals via specialized seal that runs along the middle from head to foot. Do not activate the seal until the patient is ready to be placed in tank, as it cannot be unsealed. Ideally, the patient will be assessed by this point. Remove as much of the patient's clothing as is practical, and ensure that any wounds are exposed. Do not attempt to bandage wounds before placing patient in the tank. In the event of severe uncontrolled bleeding, attempt to stop the bleeding with quick clot before placing patient in tank.

Once patient is ready, place breath mask on patient. The seal is completely airtight, so the patient must use the included breath mask. It is rated for 12 hours of operation and will work on most humanoids, even the hairy ones. Place patient in tank. Insert IV catheter in a vein of sufficient diameter. In the event that a vein is not readily available, the pack will include an intraosseous infusion (IO) kit. Ideally, the IO catheter will be placed in the patient's sternum. Once a catheter is in place, whether in bone or vein, connect to fluid line that runs along the top of the tank. Tank is now ready to seal.

Once the tank is sealed, activate the bacta circulation equipment. Tank will evacuate the air and replace it with bacta. Note: during proper operation, the tank will not be completely inflated. The tank will conform to the patient's body, thus minimizing the amount of bacta necessary to completely submerge the patient. Under ideal operations, the bacta will form a layer 1-2 cm deep around the patient. The circulation equipment will ensure that the bacta is constantly circulating through filters in order to prevent it from becoming stagnant.

Integrated instrumentation will ready vital signs. Additionally, the chemical composition of the returning bacta will be analyzed periodically, in order to check for signs of infection or excessive bleeding. In rare cases, bacta treatment might not be able to stop severe arterial bleeding immediately if left untreated before submersion. In the event that the patient is at risk of hypovolemic shock, the moniter will notify the medic, who may then use the provided ports to start a blood or plasma transfusion. Given time, the bacta will seal the wound. Keeping the patient out of hypovolemic shock until that point is critical. It is not necessary to drain air from the lines, so long as the medic uses the catheter included in the kit. It will not allow air to pass into the patient's body. Instead, it vents it until it detects that the air has been completely drained.

Once patient has reached a trauma care facility, the medic will begin extraction procedures. Bacta will be drained from the tank, and another shot of compressed air will inflate it. The tank is then cut open and the patient is removed.

At the moment it doesn't. MK2 will include the option to use kolto instead of bacta, but from an RP perspective, it seemed more prudent to start with something relatively simple and work up from there.
