Inauguration Day

The elections were over, the hustling complete. Two people had emerged victorious from the scrum; Senator Alena Beswin of Kuat and Senator Aurelia Saelari of Pylos.
The former was taking the role of Chief of the Senate, handling the passing of laws and such matters. The latter meanwhile was taking on the role of running the machine of state, the administration and finances of the Republic. Both were vital roles, and now it was the time for them to state their positions publically.

Aurelia Saelari never turned down an opportunity for a speech. She lived for them, and for the wheeling and dealing, so as she rose to deliver her speech before the Senate and the People of the Republic, she felt no nerves.

“Chief Beswin, Senators, people of the Republic and our faithful allies. I stand here again, having been called back to service in the ranks of government. As many of you know, I was the first Supreme Chancellor of the Republic in the days when daylight was just breaking again over the galaxy. It was a time of promise, of hope, and through my administration the Republic became a power to contend with.

My term expired, and new beings took the role of Supreme Chancellor. Some did great things with their role, others brought infamy and disgrace to the name. However, we are now faced by new challenges where the old certainties will no longer hold. Thus, the Republic has undergone a change to help give those in their positions the tools they need to fulfil the goals of the Republic. This new system will better allow your representatives to combat the challenges we face effectively.

People of the Republic, make no mistake. We are in a war for the very life of the Republic, of freedom, justice and democracy. Our enemies are strong, and many of those who should aid us instead fail to do so. Instead of standing with us against the darkness they hide behind us, vainly hoping that the Sith will be sated with the death of the Republic. It is not so. The Sith seek the conquest and annihilation of all that is lawful and good, and whilst one threat to them exists they will not stop their onslaught. There are other allies though, or potential allies who should be aiding us, but instead stands aloof, sometimes consorting with the enemy. These too are deluded, for their pride and foolishness will not help them live should the enemy prevail.

To the Protectorate and the Mandalorians, friends in the past, I ask you to stand with us. Together we incorporate those areas which are best and brightest in the galaxy. If any alliance can be found to defeat our foes, they will be part of it.

However, we of the Republic must be prepared to shoulder the weight of war alone. We do not want war, but whilst the barbarians hold our territory we must fight to retake it. Hope is not lost though. The true Jedi under Grandmaster Grayson, and our brave soldiers and sailors have not given up hope, and nor should you. Instead, we should unite now, giving all our assistance to our forces as we seek to drive back the hordes and retake our rightful territory.

To those citizens languishing under Sith internment and tyranny, we will come for you. The Sith will fail, as their order always does. A dozen times the Sith have risen up, and every time they have been destroyed, and it is the Republic, and the ideals of justice and representation which lives on.

Sacrifices must be made, but every credit given and every soldier enlisted is one small step closer to the purging of the Sith and the driving of their wretched order back to the shadows, and this time they will stay there forever!

We will fight the Sith on the space lanes, we will fight them on the landing fields, in our cities and towns. We will fight them until our last breath and we will never surrender!”

The newly elected Chief of Senate applauded along with rest of those present, as the new Chief of Government [member="Aurelia Saelari"] finished delivering her speech. After she finished clapping, Alena realized it was now her turn to speak, so she stood up to deliver her speech.

"Chief Saelari, honorable senators, esteemed guests, and my fellow citizens of the Republic. It is my honor to stand here to speak before you as the Republic's new Chief of Senate. I pledge that I will be doing my upmost job in leading the Senate in following proper conduct and procedures, as well as ensuring passage of new legislations in order to further enhance the security and prosperity of our republic.

As Chief Saelari has stated, the Republic is facing troubled times. Let us remind ourselves of the billions of lives that are suffering under the brutality of the One Sith at this very moment. Let us also remember the sacrifice of numerous lives in the fight against our enemy. And most importantly, let us do all that we can possibly do to ensure that such sacrifices were not made in vain!

I am a firm supporter and believer in our republican form of government. As the overseer of our legislative body, I will ensure that the voices of all planets in our Republic are heard, and that our Senate is run as efficiently as possible to make the most optimal developments for our state.

I very much look forward to spending my time and effort to further the betterment of our Republic, by effectively leading the Senate, and coopering with Chief Saelari. I hope future generations will be able to look back at us and mark our era as a time of great progress for the Galactic Republic.

Thank you, and good night!"

Caid Centurion

Guest
Silence seemed to swirl around Caid as if he was existing in his own galaxy entirely. Having never had quite the penchant for public speaking or rousing speeches of any kind, the dark-skinned Dathomir native instead relied on action. In the grand scheme of things, he was but a servant of two distinct realities. The first and, arguably, most important was his tireless devotion to the people that entrusted him with their lives and well-being for whatever reason. The second was is never-ending thirst and need for the simple freedom that deep space provided. Having not exactly been raised in...your typical society, Caid had seen a wide variety of values and societal norms at play.

His background? Following times as a warrior, a defender of the greater group on Dathomir, he had, effectively, turn to crime. Piracy had initially started as a way to make money, to taste the freedom he never knew on Dathomir. Though his methods had always been and would undoubtedly continue to be exacting, he did have his own moral code and it did not exactly permit the commission of atrocities against the innocent. When he'd finally broken down to joining the Republic Navy some time ago, much of his crew believed him to have gone soft. Hell - he'd shared their viewpoint. No matter how much he struggled against his nature, he would forever be the type that did what was necessary for the greater good. He was quite...utilitarian in that manner.

The tide of war had molded his career, seeing him from engagement to engagement before ending up in some kind of ridiculous purgatory playing chauffeur to Jedi on one of the Praxeum ships. To say that he'd not expected it to be a 'grooming' assignment for a position requiring just a touch more diplomacy than his nature generally allowed...would have been an understatement. From policy meetings to acquisitions briefings, Caid Centurion's life had changed. A change he was pretty sure was permanent at this point.

Watching as assorted clapping and cheering filled the area while two-thirds of the Republic's new government made their acceptance speeches and generally expressed their gratitude and grand-intentions, Caid could not help but feel...well...suppressed by the weight of reality. This war would not end quickly, and it would continued to be a bloody, messy affair. Countless Republic citizens would die either from indirect action or direct action. Sons and daughters would be lost...as would mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters. That was the harsh reality of life in general but...doubly so under current conditions. That was precisely what people did not need to hear, though. That was why Caid did not come to his feet, thinking he could polarize an entire government with his words.

Coming to his feet, the Grand Admiral briefly straightened his dress uniform before offering his own brief clapping to that which had erupted around them. Unceremoniously, he turned and departed the area, retreating to a more common area that implied nothing of the weight on the shoulders of all three of them. There was, perhaps, a purpose behind a Military Chief of Staff not being expressly named. The Flag and General Officers had supplied limited input into the political decision largely implemented by the Senate as to the final third of the triumvirate's composition.

Why? Vetting logical candidates was difficult with the realities of a war to execute. Their solution? The ranking member among them would fill the void in the interim.

Caid selfishly hoped the interim did not morph into indefinite. Thank goodness for the holocom.
