Aren's interest sharpened considerably as Zavik described the project. An arm optimized for running was interesting enough, but the fact that he had continued following the idea into an entire set of modifications was what caught her attention. "Now that sounds like something I would have enjoyed working on," she admitted, a small smile appearing. "You started with one component, realized what it was good at, and kept asking how far you could take the concept."
She considered the design for a moment, already imagining the complications that would arise when transferring something intended for a droid onto an organic body. "The legs would probably be the easier part. Once you started talking about lungs and a heart, though, you'd have a much bigger problem." Her fingers moved absently as she thought through it. "There's no point giving somebody legs capable of carrying them that fast if their cardiovascular system can't keep up with the demand. You'd have to design the whole thing as one system instead of treating each enhancement separately."
Aren leaned back slightly, looking toward Zavik with renewed curiosity. Cybernetics were much closer to her own field than some of the other things they'd discussed, and that made it considerably easier for her mind to start wandering through possibilities. "Heat would probably become an issue too. Power consumption, impact stresses, balance..." Her smile grew. "Actually, there are probably a dozen problems you'd discover the first time somebody tried to sprint with the finished design."
She gave a quiet laugh and shook her head. "Which is usually when things get interesting. Getting something to work on paper is one thing. Finding out all the ways reality disagrees with you is another." Aren paused before adding, "It's a shame you never got to finish the organic version. I would've liked to see whether it actually worked."
