I was talking with a friend, trying to get them to join the site, and they brought up this suggestion that I can get behind. I hope I can convey it correctly. In my mind's eye, it's another search system that would show you a list of characters that fit that identifier like Jedi, Sith, Trooper, Criminal, Smuggler, etc.
It came about because my friend was asking me how you were supposed to see who else did spy stuff or criminal stuff, and I said "Just post an LFG," and they suggested this idea. And it makes sense to me.
I'd want this to be an opt-in system because I imagine it as like an open door invitation to say "Hey look I do this thing, if you're looking for someone who does this thing, feel free to message me because I show up on this system!" And probably not everyone would want to be a part of that.
This would create searchable categories that makes characters easier to find and interact with versus searching the tags in posts.
I saw this suggestion: https://www.starwarsrp.net/threads/implement-thread-filtering-and-thread-fields-in-the-codex.193798/ and it looks like kind of what I envision.
This is the rawest of raw forms of this idea that was discussed less than an hour ago. There's more refining that can be done to the idea for sure and more expanding on what it can do, like perhaps incorpating it into the LFG system where threads looking for a certain type of character would show up in the search. But the very basic idea is what I've said above: Writers can attach one or more archetype tags to their character, and users can filter by those. It works across multiple tags like roles, tech, factions, etc.
This filter system could also apply to LFG posts where users can tag the types of characters or narrative roles they're looking for. That way, someone who's created a 'Criminal' character can sort LFG posts that are seeking Criminals. It creates a two-way discovery loop between characters and opportunities.
| Character Tags | LFG Filters |
| -------------- | ----------------------- |
| "Criminal" | "Looking for Criminals" |
| "Smuggler" | "Looking for Smugglers" |
| "Jedi" | "Seeking Jedi Opponent" |
Please, hit me with additional ideas, critiques, what if scenarios you may have! Like I said this is a very raw idea, and I can't imagine every possible angle about it.
