Intent: To provide a secure way to transport Imperial goods throughout Fringe Confederacy space.
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Imperial Shipworks
Model: Imminent-class Freighter
Affiliation: Galactic Empire/Lords of the Fringe
Modularity: None
Production: Mass-produced
Material: Durasteel
Description: The Imminent-class freighter was designed as a mass produced freighter capable of protecting itself from the average pirate or Rebel scum. While the freighter boasts a fair number of weapons as well as four small shuttle bays sealed by hatches on its top, most of its bulk is dedicated toward its special cargo bay.

Taking a design feature from the ancient Star Galleon-class, the cargo bay is a self contained unit that can be ejected and contains its own hyperdrive. After ejection the hyperdrive will proceed to make five random jumps, transmitting its location directly to Imperial Security after each jump. To accommodate this, four of the six engines are located on nacelles to the side of the freighter. The rear of the ship under the primary two engines consists of a massive hatch.

This design actually works well for combat as well, as the nacelles' ability to rotate allow the freighter to move in ways a normal freighter could not often confusing enemy fire.

I would emphasize more that the weapons are present to make the ship just irritating enough to be a deterrent to your average pirate.

But with that I would also consider adding modularity to the ship and making it a viable platform for a Q-Ship. Is it likely to ever matter? Not really, but it'd be a cool RP if you could set it up with someone. That whole self contained unit, for example, could be replaced with a separate module that is a hidden weapons battery. Or something like that.

Otherwise it looks great, though in general it can't hurt to emphasize its weakness, aka how it's decidedly not a warship.

Q-ship version

Intent: To create an interesting ship, designed to trick pirates and capture them.
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Imperial Shipworks
Model: Imminent (N)-class Q-Ship
Affiliation: Galactic Empire/Lords of the Fringe
Modularity: None
Production: Mass-produced
Material: Durasteel
Description: The Imminent (N)-class ship utilizes the hull of the standard Imminent-class freighter that has been modified into a Q-ship (a naval ship designed to look like a merchant ship). The ejectable cargo hold has been removed with a lot of the space being given to increased hanger capacity and increased firepower.

Externally the ship appears identical to its freighter brethren. Crewed by Imperial Naval crews, these ships move through shipping lanes that have shown high levels of pirate attacks, attempting to lure the pirates close. Often these ships can be on tour for months or years at a time.

The ten turbolasers kept from the original design are actually a decoy, running off a separate system from the heavy turbolasers and missile launchers. Should the pirate use ion weapons to disable the visible weapons, the Q-ship crew can blow open hidden compartments where the heavy turbolasers and missiles launchers were protected, using them to attack the pirates. Twelve fighters are carried to counter enemy fighters, while the four assault shuttles and tractor beams allow for boarding operations by the ship's large stormtrooper contingent.

While these ships are designed to take on equal to smaller sized ships, they rely primarily on surprise to avoid damage. As they use the same hulls as the normal Imminent-class, they are not heavily armored. Heavier armor would tip off pirates smart enough to do a simple sensor scan.

Classification: Balanced
Role: Q-ship
Height: 50 meters
Width: 60 meters
Length: 375 meters
Power Core Generator/Reactor: Solar Ionization Reactor
Hyperdrive Rating: 1 (Backup 13)
Minimum Crew: 50
Optimal Crew: 225 (50 gunners)
Armaments:
  • (8) Heavy Turbolasers (hidden)
  • (10) Turbolasers
  • (4) Concussion Missile Launchers (100 missiles, hidden)
  • (4) Point Defense Lasers
  • (4) Flak canons
  • (2) Quad lasers
Hangar:
  • (12) Fighters
  • (4) Shuttles
  • (4) Assault Ships
Non-Combative Attachments:
  • (4) Tractor Beams
Passenger Capacity: 300 troops
Cargo Capacity: 10,000 metric tones
Consumables: 16 months
Sublight Speed and Maneuverability: 6

I would totally add that the extra power output from the Heavy Turbolasers is routed to the formerly seperable compartment, which could reasonably be expected to have extra power output because it's got a hyperdrive.

Or perhaps more eloquently than that, but he idea is to give someone who's suspicious something to look at, and then a reason for it to be there.
