4.) If you can't initially think of a backstory, exposit to other characters as you go. Eventually, you will come up with something.

Along with the helpful advice given by [member="Doctor Azure"] and [member="Vassara Raxis"], I do also think that establishing a long term goal for your character is also helpful. For example, when I wrote Jack Ross I wrote his backstory, I wrote a little something to give an idea what he was doing at the end of it, and then established a long term goal to help me know what to join and what to avoid.

You could always post in the RP Discussion to look for others who have similar interests. Or just start a public thread and see what happens.
