With a large rifle coming to the new arsenal, there is also needs to come a compact and powerful assault carbine, a weapon to be widely used by close combat units, vehicles crews, mechanised units or even on space ships. Carbines are the main-stay of low to mid range combat and offer a solid combination of power output and customisability. Its potentially high rate of fire gives it an edge in quantity of shots fired and even delivers a little bit of a suppressive element in narrow spaces.
The IG-16 is in a direct line of succession from the DC-15A carbine, the E-11 medium blaster and the E-11D especially, adopting the major design of the latter while improving on the components, hardware and software alike.
