Duel If The Ends Justify The Means

LOTHAL, ANCIENT JEDI TEMPLE

It did not take long for FN-999 to realize that he and his men were facing a Jedi of above-average skill.
Just minutes earlier, two of the general’s squads had been wiped out effortlessly by the male. Since then, FN-999 had taken personal command of the initial disorganized response. Blasters were set to stun in order to prevent the Jedi from killing stormtroopers with their own blaster bolts. Rather than live grenades, smoke grenades were used for area denial so that even if they were reflected back at their senders with the Force the resulting blast would not be lethal. He still had nearly seventy troopers under his command, allowing him plenty of space to perform tactical maneuvers.

Currently, the Jedi was inside the crumbling temple, its ancient stone walls offering numerous alcoves and corners for him to take cover in. However, the same was true for the Imperials. Another two squads of stormtroopers had taken positions near the main entrance of the temple, peeking out from behind crumbling pillars to aim their blasters at the approaching man.

Outside the temple, the remaining sixty troopers had fanned out to fully encircle the temple, many of them tossing smoke grenades in an effort to flush the Jedi out from the interior. Others rushed back towards their troop transports, intending to use their mounted weapons on the Jedi regardless of whether he broke out of the temple with a frontal assault or escaped through a side hall. FN-999 was amongst their ranks, clambering onboard one of his HAAT gunships. Its pilot took to the air, the gunship hovering just a few meters above the landing site in front of the temple.

Standing in the open troop bay alongside a squad of stormtroopers, FN-999 awaited his adversary’s next move.

Jax sensed the many Stormtroopers filing inside of the temple. They were definitely searching for something and the Jedi Master wanted to know what they wanted. Smoke grenades obscured Jax's vision, but the lack of sight did not bother Jax in the slightest. It was best not to trust your eyes especially when you have the Force as your ally. The sounds of blaster rifles were heard, and blaster bolts immediately sprang from the mist. Jax weaved his blade around him, the blaster bolts harmlessly bouncing off his blade and was redirected into the smokey abyss.

Cries and grunts of pain were heard as more blaster bolts continued to fire at Jax yet the result was the same. The Jedi Master stepped over the fresh corpses of the Stormtroopers he just killed and with one wave of his hand dispersed the smoke. There were about five left, and they just realized that they were exposed. Jax tossed his saber towards the remaining troopers as they fell on the ground. The Jedi Master took a deep breath before sensing another tremor in the Force. Jax immediately looked up and saw transport ship heading to the air.

"Where are you going?" Jax muttered holding his blade close to him.

If there was any common trait about the Jedi aside from the Force, it was that they loved to hear themselves talk.

It was fortunate that the man had paused to speak, because FN-999 had realized the moment he broke out from the temple entrance practically unscathed that he was far more than just an above-average Jedi. He had now singlehandedly cut down at least twenty troopers, and in all likelihood the rest of FN-999’s platoon would not fare much better, even with gunships.

He would not let his comrades be fodder for a souped up religious fanatic.

[Loot the relics and then get up to the carrier as soon as possible!] shouted FN-999 over his helmet comms.

“Once I leap off, get the carrier over here!” continued Nines, his voice barely reaching the gunship’s pilot as he yelled to be heard over the roar of the engines above. “Tell them to scorch the site and pick me up after!"

Then he leapt off the open loading bay, rolling as he landed on the dirt below. When he rose to his feet, he was only a few meters away from the Jedi. His combat training immediately kicked in, taking him into a familiar rhythm. Stick close, strike fast, memorize their combat forms, and never let up the pressure. Overwhelm their senses, make them fear they will lose their life or those of others, and their connection to the Force will weaken. That is when you make the killing blow.

FN-999 walked towards to the Jedi, equipping his pistol in his right hand and his vibroblade on his left. Without warning, he fired two shots from the pistol at the man’s head and left leg respectively before fastening the gun securely to its holster on his waist, both his hands on his vibroblade as he sped up into a full sprint.

The moment he entered melee range, FN-999 lunged forward and thrust the tip of his vibroblade directly ahead, aiming directly for the center of the Jedi’s chest. His stabbing lunge alone would likely not be enough to strike down the man, but it would certainly force him to act quickly.
