Idea Forge: Lightsider amonst us?

Hey folks, it is I, Odd the Wise , Writer of [member="Kadri Ughad"] and [member="Tubal Sahon"] .
(as well as [member="Bant Mezaras"] and [member="Ebenezer"] , but I don't use them anymore :( )

After doing a bit of reading up on the rift seekers, I was particularly interested in this bit:

On the other hand, the Riftsingers believe in spreading Truth through Enlightenment. Closely identifying with Nogras, the Aspect of Light, these individuals elect to fulfill the Will of Sargon through more tame means. At times, this means the construction of education centers or conducting evangelism by winning the hearts of the masses. Riftsingers are often hailed as the most tame of the three circles; and are most commonly seen spreading the Truth through humanitarian or other such means.

I was wondering what ideas that you guys would have for a riftsinger that would follow the teachings of the light side of the force. Courage, loyalty, compassion, etc.

It is not the action that determines what side one is on, but what is behind it. Sacrificing fellow man could be done in spite and hatred, such would be the ways of the riftborne, but what about for love, would not sacrificing the heretic so that they may know the truth of the gods be better than a fate in the utter darkness in the void?

Basically this is like the argument that there is a very thin line between Lawful Good and Lawful Evil in some cases

This is mainly for a character idea to fill the hole that Anja's death left. We may or may not be bringing back the council of Hosts, but this time with a... familiar face as the Host Lord.

TL;DR: Wew Lad, I need some help with this one. We need a paladin of Nogras, aspect of Life and Tongue of Sargon.

Seeker of Enlightenment
Well, in terms of group dynamics, you'd probably get along with Five-oh, who actually thinks life is worth quite a lot. One of the more common methods for a villain is to have a reasonable view of the problem and an absolutely insane view of the solution. In a way, you can be a hero fit to work with villains by believing that the only way to save the universe is to disrupt it.

Take big Z's stunt on Dantooine for reference. What word did he repeat through out the madness? Change. The idea was to force evolution through conflict. However, evolution can also be made through compassion. You believe in courage, you believe in loyalty. You believe in compassion. Are we not most courageous when surrounded by evil? Most compassionate to those who suffer greatly? Most loyal in the eyes of terror itself?

You would be the dual nature that guides the wounded and weak. That protects those who cannot protect themselves from cycle of life and death created by Zambrano's madness, or my experimental lunacy, or other darker forces within the primeval. By nurturing the weak, you allow strength to grow. By protecting others, you create a fresh batch of eager souls whose adherence to your teachings towards Sargon--of a creator who wishes a rebirth in spiritual rather than physical terms--creates a benevolent duality to our tendency to destroy. For if we are there to clear the weaknesses and wickedness before us, to force evolution through destruction, then you in turn nurture strength through growth and life. Life, death, rebirth--we are creatures of cycles, as sure as the season, loyally letting each other commit to his work while we commit to ours, rebuilding the universe in our wake.

Okay, done spitballing. Someone else can keep going.

To continue on what [member="50H31"] said, this feels a lot like the explanation of Light Sith in the wookiepedia (too lazy to link, kill me). It started out as a movement when one of the Sith Lords (Or the Dark Lord, I can't remember) began to find power by using the lightside, and then slowly converted to it along with many followers. They were branded heretics amongst the sith even though they were still loyal to the Sith themselves. It seems what we would have here is something similar, albeit an attempt to make sure that they aren't branded heretics from the get-go.

[member="Odd the Wise"] Are you speaking about the Revanchists or whatever in the Sith Empire? I'm familiar with them.

Although I hadn't created the order of the Riftseekers itself, I've always found it easily interpreted into a very compellingly good reason to have lightsiders and darksiders working side by side without it seeming campy and stupid.

Yeah, I've always seen the Riftsingers as the followers of the light, whereas the Riftborne (obviously) and Riftwalkers stand on the darkness. Where the dark side seems to be a requirement for the others, it doesn't appear to be for the Singers :)

[member="Odd the Wise"] Oh, huh. Well you learn something new everyday! I wasn't aware they existed :p

Nonetheless, I would be comfortable with someone attempting to make a lightside Riftsinger. I think it would fit nicely. Seeming as the purpose of the Riftseekers is simply to open the eyes of the blind, there would be no real ideological strife between the two that would lead to any real conflict, as they would be on the same level and mission. Similar to the different Warlord personalities bound by their loyalty to the Host Lords out of respect and faith (usually).

They might be scrutinized by some of the more extreme members of the organization *cough cough, me, cough cough*, but otherwise would not be truly perturbed.

They might find a difficult time abiding by their alignment however...

No doubt about it. But the riftsingers would probably operate more along the lines of the grey jedi than the actual light side a la Nogras' will be done through dark or light
