Public I'd Rather Not Be Spider Food

Lymsleia always did like hanging out.

She didn't usually like hanging upside down, entwined in a web cocoon, waiting to be consumed by a legion of spider hatchlings. As much as she was loathe to disturb the delicate pattern of nature, she'd have to get out of there sooner or later. Preferably sooner, before the blood rushed to her head and the spiderlings skittered all over her face. As she tried to form a plan in her head, she wondered how exactly she'd been stupid enough to get herself there.

They'd talked about something strange happening underground. All the talk in the cantina was about the missing people underground. There were rumours of old Jedi temple complexes, lost deep in the caverns, forlorn and forgotten. What few security forces dared investigate had come up empty, or not at all. The combination of missing people and potential Temple had been too tempting a prize for Lym, who'd dutifully set off into the caverns just a day previously.

The good news was that she had found out what happened with the missing people. The bad news was... well, she was probably going to end up spider food. One of the big ones had got the jump on her when she'd been inspecting the inlaid carvings on the old Temple wall. In her head, Lym cursed her love of languages. She always knew it'd get her killed, one day. The old lightsaber that she'd inherited from her Nana lay on the floor, gleaming mockingly at her. If only her hand wasn't stuck in the webbing.

Concentrating as much as she could, Lym's eyes narrowed. She stared at the saber hilt, hoping to make something happen. She felt her cheeks redden as the blood rushed to her face. Slowly, gently, the hilt rocked. Quivered. Moved. With a grunt, Lym focused as much energy as she could, trying to will the lightsaber to rise up. It hovered above the ground. It started to drift towards her...

Something cracked. Lym looked, her concentration broken. The hilt fell to the ground with a humiliating clank. Around her, the eggs started to wrench open. The skittering of fresh, new spiderlings filled the room.

"Oh, shoot."

It wasn't often that Fynch found himself able to slip away from the prying eyes of his cabinet, but every once in a while he'd slip off to walk the old ruins left behind by the Jedi Order of old. There was an ancient tale deep within. He was sure of it. Perhaps it could shed some light on the history of this home, and the reason the planet he was sworn to serve found itself in so many affairs much larger than it. It was never for long, of course. The Protectorate demanded much of his attention, and the last thing they needed was to fret over their leader.

Something was off this time. The spiders that had made their home in the ruins of the temple seemed to skitter about in an unusual way. Then, a distant cracking sound came, followed by some faint words...

"Oh, shoot."

The Commander in Chief was quick to follow the noise, coming across an unusual sight. It was a young woman, late teens from the looks of it, tied up in spider's silk. Eggs were beginning to hatch in the web. It seemed that she had found herself as the meal for a new generation of arachnids. That certainly wouldn't do. Keeping his cool, Fynch drew his blaster. He fired his first shot into the air, causing the spiders to hiss and begin to scatter. The Commander fired a second shot at a stabilizing part of the web. Lymsleia would find herself at least on the ground now. For the most part, it seemed that the spiders were dispersing now, at least the smaller ones.

"Apologies," Fynch began, hastily making his way over to make sure that the girl hadn't dropped on her head. "You seemed to be in a tight spot. You're lucky I frequent these old ruins. It's easy to get yourself into trouble down here. Let me help you out of those webs."

From there, if need be, Fynch would draw his personal knife and begin to help cut the stranger loose.
