PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Primo Victorian Enterprises
  • Affiliation: Imperial Commonwealth of Dosuun
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: CED-IMASE-X1
  • Modularity: Yes
  • Production: Minor
  • Material:
    • Reinforced vectored ion microjets
    • Gravimetric dampener spindles
    • Electromagnetic impulse vanes
    • Synthek Crystal regulator cores (for overload stabilization)
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Vector-Thrust Microjets:
    • Allow ships to sidestep, flip, or roll independent of main engine alignment.
    • Optimized for burst maneuvers, short-range directional changes, or evasive positioning.
  • Inertial Dampener Override Module:
    • Temporarily boosts inertial compensation fields to withstand high-G maneuvers, preventing crew damage or equipment rupture.
    • Linked to pilot AI assist or manual trigger via flight controls.
  • Burst Calibration Core (Synthek):
    • Uses Synthek Crystal to stabilize the energy pulse feeding both microjets and dampeners, preventing burnouts during rapid action.
  • Scalable Power Profiles:
    • Smaller ships (e.g., patrol boats, corvettes) can utilize full 360-degree burst mobility.
    • Larger ships (e.g., frigates, cruisers) gain limited "shove" thrust and arc correction, especially useful for evasive reorienting or ramming vectors.
STRENGTHS
  • Superior Agility: Allows small-to-mid ships to perform unpredictable combat maneuvers like lateral bursts, sudden pitch/yaw shifts, or full-axis flips.
  • Pilot-Controlled or AI Assisted: Ships with Ariadne or similar AIs can pre-load evasive maneuvers into combat scripts.
  • Enhanced Survival Rate: Boosts evasiveness in dogfights or strafing runs; capital ships can better align broadside or forward-facing batteries during pursuit.
WEAKNESSES
  • Thermal & Structural Strain: Repeated use builds stress on the hull and inertial frame, especially in ships without a reinforced core (not recommended for prolonged use).
  • Limited Use on Massive Ships: While usable by cruisers or dreadnoughts, the system loses finesse—“bursts” become sluggish shoves, less effective at true dodging.
  • Overload Risk: Without sufficient capacitor support or shielding (e.g. Arbalest system), the vector jets can backfeed and fail, locking out movement temporarily.
DESCRIPTION
The Icarus Maneuvering Array is the Commonwealth’s solution to increasing the battlefield agility of modern warships—especially its fast-attack and pursuit-oriented vessels like the Kelly-class Patrol Boat and forward-intercept corvettes.

Named after the mythic figure who flew too boldly, the Icarus system walks the line between daring movement and structural integrity. It integrates high-precision vectored ion microjets, mounted along secondary hull ridges and reaction fins, which can provide sudden lateral or angular thrust. In tandem, inertial dampener overrides engage when high-G maneuvers exceed shipboard tolerance, temporarily amplifying grav-field balance to protect crew and components.

Smaller ships benefit the most, capable of evading fire with hard rolls or sharp thrust pivots. Larger ships, while restricted by mass, can use Icarus systems to shift their angle of attack, perform kinetic turnarounds, or sidestep torpedo lines—especially when used alongside Ariadne’s AI-predicted pathing.

By including Synthek Crystal stabilizers, the Icarus system ensures that energy surges don’t cripple smaller ships or fry control systems. While best in short bursts, its presence gives Commonwealth ships an edge in maneuvering warfare, allowing them to dance where others drift.
