I have to spend all day computing pi, because he plugged in the Overlord

Now was the time. Marek's company was recently merged into the holdings of Neruo-Saav, and he and [member="Jared Ovmar"] had some big plans. What he needed to figure out is if this next plan was to be used strictly for the Tion Hegemony, or if it was going to be used widely, opened to the galactic market or not. That was the real trick, wasn't it? He had the layout, some time aboard the Wanderer had helped him. Speaking to the interns and science teams from S.T.E.B., as well as his Haor Chall engineers, he was ready to get moving on the next step. The artifical intelligence that he was hoping would enhance his experience. He even had a bit of a write up for his business partner. The trick was, where was it going? He knew he could upload it into a variety of mediums, running a ship, which would be its primary use, and uploading into an armor, that way it would assist him in combat.

A bit of a link between ship and armor and droid was what he was hoping for. The write-up was pretty thorough.

The creation of an artificial intelligence for use by Neuro-Saav and her employees would be a bonus to productivity for the variety of advanced research work, not to mention the select few in the galaxy who would be able to afford the purchase of the system. An artificial intelligence used to enhance data management, observation techniques and combat would be highly useful for a variety of reasons.

Use in a data management manner would allow the user, the organic, to cut ties with potentially turned assistants, whom would succumb to the lure of credits or credibility over loyalty. There are several virtual intelligences already on the market that specialize in data and are nothing more than an operating system in a datapad. That would be simple, however, combining this with a droid brain, a semi-aware unit would be the step. And to allow the system to understand its purpose, what it is, and to strain the system to create, think, observe, and change its surroundings would be highly useful.

This would follow into observation. In a technical and scientific field, logging data, such as observed fauna, flora, machinery, weaponry, sounds, and a variety of visual light ranges would.

. . .

The writings of Marek, the recent student to computer and biotech engineering was carrying on in a way to list recent advances in computing power, mostly from Hegemonic Automaton, as well as writings from nearly a half dozen Neuro-Saav scientists. Marek liked to cover his bases and prove that he was doing his research. It was a matter of finding the right articles, about how droids are designed to help create better humans.

What he needed to do was stop looking so small. The Techno Union had resources, and from what the Foreman of the union could find, he was leafing through parts of the Emah project. That was a combat system.

Combat would be useful. Most powered armor suits have at least some rudimentary virtual intelligence to allow the wearer an understanding of the battle field. But to include another mind, a thinking computer to log data, to suggest courses of action, and where necessary make the move the wearer needs. To power a ray shield, or move the arm and the use of electrical pulses to pull the trigger.

Break the bonds that a droid mind has.

That would be useful here. To create a better organic.

. . .

And that was the real trick. Many programs have some way to stop the intelligence. But this one would be all rounded. Helping scientists do research, help soliders fight, and help the businessmen know what the market is doing, and create projections. A system could not be self serving, however. It would need to know that it was created to assist, and not to dominate.

Marek's research had found talk of several different ideas. Killswitches in the system, or blocks in the programming. The type to allow a system to protect itself, to protect the sapient, and to not harm a sapient. This system would need to take a note from Emah.

But there would need to be a fall back. Protect the organic in charge, but only so long as it does not damage the mission. The AI would need to be ready to defend the mission, be it the glory of Tion (Heil), or the advancement of Neuro-Saav on the galactic scale, or running a gambling floor for a casino that turns profit and allows guests to have fun, interact, receive a unique experience and still want to come back. There were so many options.

It was a matter of finding one that would not cause the AI to start enslaving the galaxy.

And just having the self destruct on the mainframe that kept the AI.

But what sort of medium would this be?

In order to be kept secure, a mainframe would be smart. But to do that, Neuro-Saav would need to create a hyperspace transmitter, and a few chips keyed for a certain artificial intelligence. Something they could hop to. Or at least a familiar system that is set for it. A whole new computing system for a fighter, a shuttle, hell, airspeeder and of course combat armor. That could be done.

The new groups in Neuro-Saav were busy at work, creating new computing devices, extra processing power for the new virtual intelligence assistants. Moving an AI there would be possible.

Closing the program is the trick. An AI would not think it was wrong, and its logic wouldn't allow for it to consider another option. That would need the true power switch. Not to just cut it, but to bury it. Burn the mainframe in the database. Set up a coded and closed circuit EMP blast in the mainframe, fry the computers on the vessels, in the armor.

Allowing an AI to get out of hand, or worse, into the wrong hands is a terrible idea. Having a physical way to stop it, well, I ending an AI, its not ending an organic life.

But like the AI, everyone will need to be in charge of weeding out the useful from the bleeding heart. There is still a bit of work to be done.

Subject: Project /REDACTED/

It all started small.

The creation of a single Artificial Intelligence Unit designed to protect vital systems aboard /REDACTED/.

But it never ends there, does it?

/REDACTED/ was a means to an end.

Form a think-tank, attract the best of the best, and give them everything they ask for. Then simply watch how they strive to outdo themselves in little competitions, harmless at first, but not soon before long someone decides to underline their genius.

Then the real work begins.

Biochemical alterations, nanotechnology-based weaponry, mass mind control.

Fringe Science at its finest.

No control, no direct oversight (at least none that we notice) and above all… no morality bugging us down.

Paradise for the wicked and mad.

Some of us are starting to have doubts, we considered this just a little project, a few scientists working on simple theories. But we are constantly getting… more, I can’t explain it in any different way.

I have the feeling there is a lot more money and assets behind this than we first realized. Just the other day we were studying rakatan technology, when I asked how they got their hands on it I was met with silence and frowns.

Seems we can ask questions, as long as they are firmly pointed at metaphysical problems.

Initial tests have been... successful. S.T.E.B. and Neuro-Saav along with some Techno Union scientists are working as hard as they can. Moving from a virtual intelligence is... tricky.

We're tracking previous creations around the galaxy, stalking things called 'Queen' and 'Emah.' And combining various virtual intelligences. Hunting that source code to give this new creation the ability to think on its own. To become more than just a system that will protect, but one that can actively think, and comprehend.

If we can make this do the research in a lab setting, jumping another intelligence to one that can assist a soldier or a pilot will be very quick. Note; Review the HYDRA program from the Techno Union. Those war bots had a little bit of crazy going on.

Maybe that is where we're looking?

Now we've had something. Initial tests are proceeding as expected. There have been several facilities shut down. And it seems the body count is piling up. That is not what we wanted, but it is what we expected. The mainframe has been locked down, the system is... closed.

If our team can get in there and offer the intelligence the galaxy, with a few addendums, we may be able to lock down that which we're looking for.

Will update when we hear back from the team.

Marek shook his head. He really needed to make sure that this AI could be controlled. If they could spawn it into the systems, imagine the leg up Neuro-Saav research will gain from the processing power. And the employees of Neruo-Saav, both military contractor and otherwise, they will have perhaps the ultimate assistant. He was hoping to give [member="Jared Ovmar"] a good transmission shortly.

The team should be entering the closed facility soon.

RE: Intelligence.

So, Neuro-Saav's new Fringe Science division sent out a group of military contractors, probably a result of Czerka along with their scientists. They were able to stop the AI from arming the station's defense weapons. Seemed it was a lot of ion fire. And bringing in a large EMP.

Once the system stopped, it identified itself as a 'Praetor.' Scientists were able to speak to the system, and it agreed to surviving and assisting Neuro-Saav in dominating the science field. The request by Praetor was that its 'children' were allowed to branch into the galaxy. The system figured that the only real way to gain knowledge is experience. While it can do a lot through computer systems, having an arm that goes out to work with a variety of organics is the only true way to understand the galaxy.

Sent this information to [member="Jared Ovmar"]. Need to see what he thinks we should do.

We have proceeded with the extraction procedure. I am not sure how we got our hands on Ssi-ruu technology, but this tech is miles ahead of anything the Core has ever seen. I am starting to get worried though, some of the development we are going through is becoming erratic and even more dangerous, it’s one thing to artificially develop /REDACTED/ or to improve the cooling-systems of those experimental engines.

But this is something entirely else, I am not sure I can continue this work in good conscience. Most of the men and women I am working with don’t seem to agree with my assessment though, they are having the time of their lives here. I can respect that, but sometimes a man just has to stand up to hi--

I am babbling.

The Project has redeeming qualities, but I am just concerned. I will have to talk with one of the overseers at a later moment, perhaps we could install some more failsafes into the programming, that would probably cover our collective asses.

Eternal life is worth what we are doing, isn’t it? If we pull this off we can make people leave their dusty, faulty bodies behind, no more grown organs for replacements or anything as silly as that.

This could be the future.

Subject: The future

So, word came back from on high. At least having a check for something like this confirms funding. And that is what is needed. @[member="Jared Ovmar"] will provide the funding so much as we move this project to a new facility. One he's creating a team for. This is something the Techno Union wanted to be. A think tank. Maybe I should contact more of the people from there?

I'll let Ovmar get the last say there.

Anyway, the Praetor should be finding a new home. And apparently its already started to store its created code on its mainframe. More terabytes of space are being created for the project. Then its miniaturize it and give the new projects a limited network, and the rest of the data comes from the environment..

When they start to break into the HoloNet is when we need to worry.

If they do that.

Why would they try to overthrow anything?
