Description:

Devloped in tandum with the Hyperion Support Automatic Weapon, the Mandal Hypernautics' Squad Automatic Weapon also expands on the popularity of the energy enveloped projectile weaponry in use by Mandalorians. Where the two weapons differ is primarily in general size and stopping power.

The weapon uses existing technology to pair the hard hitting and high penetration of a high caliber slug thrower with the thermal energy and effectiveness of a blaster weapon. The projectiles from this weapon are capable of penetrating thick walls, light vehicle armor, and most infantry armor with relative ease. The projectiles cause grievous wounds and heavy damage to whatever organic or synthetic targets find themselves downrange of the weapon. In many cases, even when said targets are behind cover.

Like the larger support weapon, the Squad Automatic Weapon is modular and capable of equipping various suppressors, scopes, and other secondary equipment. The weapon comes equipped with a bipod or tripod standard and is often mounted on anchored turrets. An added benefit to the design is its compatibility with alternative ammunition in its caliber.

When used as a mobile weapon for infantry, the weight of the rifle and the ammunition can be a major downside. However, not nearly to the extend of the support variant. While it is preferred that the user mount the weapon on a bipod or tripod, particularly strong individuals are capable of wielding the weapon effectively from a standard crouched position or by bracing themselves against a wall. Even with these measures in place though, this squad automatic weapon proves ineffective at close ranges and attempts to do so often cause severe injury to the user.

The heavy, .32 caliber ammunition is belt fed and is typically loaded in boxes of 240 rounds. The power pack for the weapon is external and is often installed on the side of the ammo box that accompanies the weapon. The power supply on the external box is capable of enveloping the full 240 rounds of ammo held in the box. Larger boxes of ammunition come equipped with larger power packs to accompany the appropriate amount of ammunition.

Firing at a maximum rate of 12 rounds a second (720 rounds a minute), the weapon has proven to be effective at targeting fast moving aircraft, vehicles, and repulor equipped troops. Though is lacks the stopping power of its larger cousin. Where it does out-perform the support variant is in overall range. This weapon has a maximum effective range of 2,200 meters standard, 2,850 meters when mounted on a bipod, and 3,200 meters when stabilized by a tripod or fully stationary mount.
