In eastern Wild Space, one name inspires fear and opportunity - Hydian-Wyl. The conglomerate can trace its roots back to prospecting and wildcat mining in the aftermath of the 400-year Darkness. Corporate interest led to hostile takeovers, then consolidation, then rapid expansion. By 900 ABY, the corp effectively leveraged an economic hegemony over a number of independent worlds and sectors, far outside the purview of any government. Indeed, Hydian-Wyl maintains a militarized security force and even enforces its own corporate policies as law.
Hydian-Wyl is headquartered on Bonadan, where it is deeply embedded in the local markets, and operates the bulk of its facilities. Other presences include mining operations on Kadavo and Elom. Agricultural charters and depots on Farana, and salvaging operations on Desevro. The corporation maintains satellite offices on Nar Shaddaa and Druckenwell as a means of hosting external trading partners and litigating claims (read: black markets, corporate espionage, and bounty hunting).
Recently, a zersium rush has kick-started an economic boom and uptick in migration within their sectors of operation. The conglomerate quickly moved in to exploit those who would seek new opportunities or an escape from war. From claiming dubious ‘land rights’ to charging ‘franchise fees’ to prospective settlers and enterprising individuals. Going so far as to manufacture piracy and enabling lawlessness as a means of coercion.
RATIONALE
Hydian-Wyl is a traded company on numerous exchanges across the galaxy, particularly those with few financial or trade regulations, such as Nar Shaddaa. The largest single shareholder group is the Raine Family, through various fronts and shell companies to obfuscate a credit trail. Through her work as an archaeologist, Anet Raine operates most of her dig sites on company land, all the while turning a blind eye to their use of her work as a front for cultural looting and artifact laundering. She also just so happens to be her family’s appointed shareholder representative on Bonadan. An odd coincidence, to be sure.
