Strengths:
  • Capital Killer -
    • In design, the HVC-369 “Covenant” Class Hypervelocity Cannon was meant to pierce armor, and armor alone. In this, it does its job exceptionally well; being able to pierce standard armors easily, and anything up to a few meters thick of well reinforced quadranium plating. Through is design process, it accomplishes this in a number of ways, most notably its patented and well designed shaped charge at the end of the pointed round, only the first step in a series of armor penetrating stages.

      Clocking in at just over a few metric tons, the rounds used by the “Covenant” carry with them an untold amount of inertia and destruction. It begins by slamming into a ship and setting off its primary explosive, a shaped charge meant to tear layers away from its opponent in a moment’s notice. Once this is done, it is up to the now, relatively sharp, depleted uranium head to rip into the now compromised exterior plating. This second process is done entirely by the inertia brought about by its initial firing; something totally capable of digging deep into most vessels. The last stage involves igniting a secondary set of internal charges that force the radiation bomb within the shell to extract itself through the front with force; leaving its final stage of assault.
  • Chernobyl -
    • This final stage of damage is where the radiation bomb begins to go to work. Pushing through the many layers of armor through the first few stages of penetration leave nothing but this final payload as deliverance; a final chance for those aboard the crewed vessel to make pace. Almost instantly, it would set itself off and begin to dump massive amounts of radiation onto the interior of a vessel. This too allows for vessels caught by this weapon to be captured with minimal damage to the interior as a whole, minus more sensitive systems that may be damaged by the extraordinary amount of radiation.

Weaknesses:
  • Get that Junk outta here -
    • While the users of the Covenant class HVC expect their round to always hit its mark, their prey assumes the opposite. Finely tuned point defense weaponry or even skilled pilots with fast fighters are able to intercept the warhead while it's en route, and while difficult, entirely possible with the right defenses.
  • Radiation Countermeasures -
    • Rad-dampening shields, radiation counter drugs, and other health protection measures effectively neutralize the majority of this weapon’s effects; from interior shielding to countermeasures such as Elisinandrox. Anything capable of reducing the radiation’s effects within the first few moments are very likely to keep your crew alive and kicking just long enough to get to port and get some real help before succumbing to the sickness that would soon arise. As strong as the bomb can be, extra plating and bulkheads could protect an otherwise standard model of ship from the devastation, certainly prevention an all out clearing of the interior of the vessel.
  • Double-edged Sword -
    • Carrying radiation bombs around isn’t a very smart thing to do, and makes an ample target for the perceptive. Sabotaging or targeting the magazine of this weapon could result in premature detonation on the inside of the Covenant’s host vessel, effectively killing the entire vessel it is mounted on in the first place. To avoid this, most store the arms deep within the center of the vessel, but this can be just as dangerous being centered should they ever be shot or sabotaged.
  • Runnin’ Low -
    • The warheads for this bad boy costs an arm and a leg. Most emplacements or capital ships that field these hulking weapons don’t carry too much ammunition, mainly due to the radiation that could leak out and harm the crew and the fact that the bill has far too many zeroes than they’d like. In addition, the fire rate of the Covenant is slower than most hypervelocity cannons due to the extra care required to prime the warhead itself and breech the cannon.
  • Face me, coward! -
    • When installed aboard a capital ship, the Covenant is typically ran along the axis of the vessel. This means that the entire vessel must shift or rotate to bring its weapon to bear upon their target, which may be a very compromising maneuver in the midst of combat; or outright impossible in short range assaults. Should an engagement become broadside to broadside, this would become effectively unusable as a weapon, and is completely negated to long range conflicts only.
  • Mechanized Might -
    • Neutralizing an organic crew is the entire purpose of this weapon. If the targeted vessel doesn’t posses any crew, then the use of this weapon falls very short of its intended goal. This is to say, it only affects living tissue and otherwise sensitive equipment; nothing robotic in nature would ever be touched, let alone notice the weapon’s subpar damage alone.
DESCRIPTION

To finally establish a foundation in Capital Grade weaponry on the intergalactic market, Jaeger understood that they required something that would set them apart from the get go. A simple ion cannon alteration, nor a normal proton torpedo launcher would do; only the unbridled passion they held within their war loving hearts would suffice. In this, they began the process in which they would create one of the most effective types of capital grade weaponry available today.
With the introduction of more Jaeger Solutions branded vessels on the market, there was a trend beginning to form; an outsourcing of most materials meant for their designs. While Jaeger might have designed the ships, brought them together as a whole; most ships they designed relied far too heavily on everyone else's design’s. To counteract this, and to stop the reputation, they began by introducing the weapon that would establish themselves as an independent entity in the beginning crucial stages of naval design.
Introduce The “Covenant” Hypervelocity Cannon.
A capital grade weapon not only capable of direct armor penetration, but the extinguishing of life aboard an entire vessel. Months of designing through extremely high powered AI, and both the round and near miles of cannon were trademarked and approved for testing; something Jaeger would not soon regret. The cannon soared in test scores, offering faster speeds due to its well designed cannon layout, and extreme effectiveness when penetrating enemy vessels. The executives at Jaeger could not be more excited, all things considered.
Working off the principle of a multi-stage detonation, each round is specifically designed to break through layers of well reinforced armor plating aboard ships and buildings alike. As stated prior, each round is tipped with a high explosive meant to shred the outermost layer of armor leaving only a compromised interior layer to be pounded by the weight and momentum of the round itself; amplified by its extremely dense jacket of depleted uranium. Once inside, the secondary explosion would ignite, sending even deeper the radiation bomb into the vessel itself; one that would soon be set off and could decimate all living tissue within the ship’s quarters. Friend and foe alike could fall to its power, and more likely ships without radiation countermeasures would see more damage than ships without preventive measures taken.
It is in this that Jaeger set themselves apart once more, and why they continue to grow as quickly as they do; by creating products that change the face of war itself. Able to be mounted on both ships and planets alike, and able to be shot at fleets of various sort, it's an extremely expensive but effective weapon made for defense and offense alike. Suffice to say, the first to buy it are the ones who are better are in this case.

This section appears to be drawing some inspiration from the canon radiation bomb on known canon ships, but this may not true for ships designed at Chaos.

For example, a ship like the old One Sith Wyyrlok-class Star Destroyer is not only specifically designed to counter hypervelocity cannons like this, but the way its bow is built would provide a lot of shielding against radiation, as the radiation could be caught between the many layers of plating, which would slow its ability to propagate forwards in force. Consider also that many larger starships naturally have areas designed to be protected from radiation as well (typically by reactors, engines), which might shield people from the radiations effects.

Essentially, it all goes down to thickness of shielding, time of radiation exposure, and the type of radiation being used. We could go pretty technical into this, but suffice to say that there are enough variables in the equation that it would not be a certain fact that detonating a radiation bomb onboard would be kill/poison everyone. I would agree that it could cause severe crew casualties.

I would recommend adding some commentary in this section to the effect that while it is designed to poison and kill people as a biohazard weapon, it is not guaranteed to kill or poison them even in standard designs.

Most notably the Pistoeka Sabotage Droid, where a 'the outer shell was coated with a heat dissipating alloy that allowed it to penetrate enemy shields", which in a sense is just a different wording for ablative coating. Is this alright?

That sense was taken from the Javelin Hypervelocity Cannon, another spinal weapon. It says a standard version of it was on par with long range hypervelocity guns, and this is no different than that besides the fact it shoots a singular penetration slug while that one shot three in a burst. To compare, this one would have the equivalence of a heavy long range hypervelocity gun by traditional measurements, or 1.75x-2.5x the power, in numbers, at the cost of a very long reload time and single shot capacity.

There are two things to consider with this example:

1) Shield Type: Starfighter shields aren't as powerful as capital ships. But perhaps just as importantly, are we talking about ray shields or particle shields? Ray shields produce an energy field that is exceptionally harmful and can kill/damage things (like a droid) if touched. I'll give you an exact quote from the Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology on page 82 on the section on ray shielding:

Shield energy permeates the ship's hull and wraps the vessel in layers of energy that may extend anywhere from a few millimeters to several centimeters away from the hull. (An energy shield carries so much power that touching one can be fatal).
Now lets consider how particle shields work (same source, same page):

Particle shields provide no protection against energy attacks such as laser or tubolaser fire. These shields greatly enhance a ship's hull integrity by using energy charges to strengthen the molecular bonds of the hull plating.
In other words, the plating allows a sabotage droid to penetrate through the ray shielding unharmed to work on the fighter. Particle shielding is something whose field is found pretty close to the armor itself. Depending on the source or novel that you read, it's either in the hull plating or just above it. So ray shields typically are projected somewhat further beyond particle shields, which is why the pistoeka droids need to be concerned about clearing through the ray shielding, but not the particle shielding.

2) Time: The other hurtle to clear would be time. It's easier to dissipate heat over a longer amount time than a shorter. We're talking seconds in the case of pistoeka sabotage droids based on the film, and their outer shell appears to be used as a radiator to help dissipate this heat. A shell moving this quickly has neither the time nor radiators.

3) Balance: This isn't an incharacter or universe explanation, but something that ignores shielding is something that is going to be either rare or has some other noticeable restrictions in order to keep the balance. Otherwise, shielding would be useless and shield-ignoring weapons would render both shields and conventional turbolasers and other energy weapons obsolete.

Cool, put something like that in the description itself so people have an idea of what scale of power that we're talking about. There's a pretty wide variety of hypervelocity cannons out there (a number of them are small enough to be turreted), which is why I asked.

It's okay to say that this will dump massive amounts of radiation into the vessel. But stay away from defining other people's design characteristics. Please remove: " far more than any standard vessel would be prepared for. Levels so high only exploration vehicles specifically designed to resist radiation with additional bulkheads could stop it;".

This area as well will need to be revised, as it comes across dictating damage to another writer. One way I like to describe things like this is using the phrase "designed to" and the word "could" to demonstrate intent, but not state that it's an absolute. So the previous section could read:

"designed to decimate all living tissue within the ship’s quarters. Friend and foe alike could fall to its power,"
