Hyperdrive Class Ratings

 • 10m - 600m: Class 1

 • 601m - 1200m: Class 2

 • 1201m - 1800m: Class 3

Strengths:

 • Rapid Cooling: The Howlback has a built in rapid cooling system that flash cools the engines, prevent them from overheating.

 • Improved Power: SJFS has taken their old ion engine designs and reworked them to create an engine that had an improve power transfer rating. Meaning power between systems such as auxiliary, shields, engines and weapons transfer a lot easier than with other engines.

 • Improved Efficiency: Overall the Howlback has an improved efficiency, so it runs smoother, than most.
Weaknesses:

 • Hotter Exhaust: Due to the rapid cooling system, the Howlback’s exhaust is hotter than most other engines. Making it harder to hide the emissions and easier to track.

 • Easier to Lock: Missile friendly, missiles will end up finding ships with the Howlback a lot easier than most other ships due to the increased heat output in the exhaust.

 • Cannot Hide: Traditional Anti-Ion emissions tracers will not work with the Howlback, meaning ships with the Howlback will be a lot easier to track.
DESCRIPTION

Seinar-Jaemus Fleet Systems and First Order Corps of Imperial Engineers worked together to develop the new howlback engine. A new ion engine that can service small starfighters all the way through cruiser and star destroyer starships. The new engines would have a rapid flash cooling enabling the engines to cool faster and work with an improved efficiency and overall improved power.

The engine was made exclusively for the First Order. The SJFS produced the Howlback line with the idea of powering the new naval fleet, as part of the First Order’s effort to create their own technology. The new engine was based off their Starscream design. The rapid flash cooling system was integrated into inner coils allowing it to cool faster but at the expense of the exhaust. Ships bearing the new Howlback will find that their exhaust ports run hotter and are harder to hide.

Using normal anti-ion emissions will not be effective.

The outer-than-usual output also means that missiles locking onto ships bearing the engine will do so with more efficiency. For now this flaw has been allowed as to allow SJFS to study the engine’s overall performances throughout the field.
