Faction How to heal the Body and the Mind

It had been a while since she had taught anyone, last person she had taught had been Iris Arani Iris Arani back at a hospital she was working at. Force Healing was a skill that for some was a basic power to prevent serious harm or death while in combat, for others, for Kat, it was a profession. A skill honed as sharp as any sword. Kat was able to more with healing than she could with most other Force powers and it was only through hard dedication and years spent perfecting her craft. It was also the only thing that made her feel like a Jedi at times, and she did not dress as one. The oversized jumper was someone else's but their scent was long gone from the clothing and she wore her sunglasses to hide the bags under her eyes from the lack of sleep lately. The night scene at Coruscant had been too tempting and she couldn't help but enjoy her time out.

Wandering the temple, her heels clicked on the hard floor as she slurped on the caf. The brew strong enough to help her stay awake and focused on the task at hand. Teaching a class on Force Heal was simple and she could do it in her sleep if she needed to. If anyone decided they wanted to judge her for her decisions, then that was on them. They did not know Kat and she was not going to make excuses or give a sob story on why she was addicted to partying, drinking and could not, did not, want to sleep. Wandering into the training room, she looked around, these temple's always seemed lacking. There was something the Echani wanted, something that was familiar to the training rooms on Eshan, something that would remind her of home. It didn't help that Kat always thought that Echani had the best training mindset, that natural urge to perfect a skill. Whether it was combat or something else.

Placing her Lightsaber to one side, the hilt design looked more like an Echani quarterstaff halved. It was only when she ignited the saber that most would recognise it was a Lightsaber. Though it had been a long time since she had ignited the Lightsaber. She was rarely in fights or anything that was above a tavern brawl. Sitting on the hard floor, Kat waited for anyone who might have heard about the class starting. She was curious to see who would arrive to today's class and if anyone was interested in helping her conduct the class since that might lessen the headache that she was predicted she would suffer with during the class. Sipping more of her caf, desperate to avoid a truly awful hangover.

Will teach her to go out the night before doing a class at the temple.

There was no way Iris was going to miss this.

Iris was already in the classroom, sitting off on a corner, scrolling through a datapad. A refresher on some of the topics she figured would be addressed. Kat did train her early on, after all! Lessons that Iris only took more to heart. Help Amani Serys Amani Serys in the healing halls, help people out on the field. She glanced up, briefly, as Kat came in. Offered a small wave in greeting. And turned her gaze back to her tab.

They'd start the lessons when the others came by.

During her time here at the temple, she'd spent most of her time trying to learn more about combat because that's where she struggled the most. However, her master had surprised her by suggesting she attend a lesson about healing. And it did make quite a lot of sense. It would be a practical skill to have, especially in an emergency situation -- and Hollis did like to be prepared.

She hadn't heard the name Kat Decoria around the temple yet, so she was interested to meet the instructor.

As she walked into the class, she wasn't really sure just what to expect. There was a woman with white hair was sitting on the floor, and she looked... tired. Was this Kat, perhaps? She was about to find out. "Hi there," Hollis said, moving to sit down on the floor as well. "I'm Hollis. This is the healing class, right?" She didn't settle down completely until she knew for sure... it wouldn't be the first time she'd accidentally joined the wrong one. She spotted Iris in the corner and offered a friendly wave.

Aiden had been working hard, a little too hard lately. Hours upon hours in the medical wing with Samara and his other studies. To be put bluntly the Jedi padawan was exhausted. However he didn't want to shirk away from another available training that was going one. Especially when it came to healing. The young man was learning at a remarkable rate, however with learning came practice and then putting into action. As it was with his nature he wanted to always make sure he was learning properly and doing the correct thing. So the extra training couldn't hurt.

However he arrived a bit early and had nodded off at a desk against the wall with his palm against the side of his face.

"I'm Hollis. This is the healing class, right?"

It wasn't addressed to him, but it was enough for him to wake up with a start. "It hasn't started has it!?" Aiden inquired quickly and then realized what was going on. He took a deep breath and chuckled. The Jedi rubbed his face slightly as he looked towards them.

"Hey Hollis, I'm Aiden, nice to meet you." He said with a friendly wave. And then he noticed Iris in the corner. "Hey Iris!" He said as he stood up and stretched, trying to wake himself up. Hopefully looking to catch his second wind here, and be okay. The abruptness from his slumber was good enough to get him moving and he started to feel a bit better off.

Bladed combat was by far Briana's area of expertise and something the young woman prided herself in, but throughout her career as a Jedi, Briana found herself in various encounters where a healing hand was needed. Her lack of experience in the area meant that she was not as effective as she could be in the field, and with a limited supply of healers readily available, it was not only foolish to put off learning what she saw as a necessary ability, but dangerous as well.

She made her appearance to the dojo in timely fashion - entering with the posture of one that bespoke of a person who was ready to face anything, her long brown hair brushed into half a dozen intricate braids that she'd wrapped and pinned into a tight bun, dressed in a crisply ironed jumpsuit that was tailored to her specific physique, complimented by her signature, Corellian combat boots.

Her oceanic eyes made their way about the room, checking over the other students - most of which were unknown to her, but there was one in particular that she could pick out of any crowd. "Hey Iris," she greeted with a warm smile, but didn't opt to approach. She seemed busy, was she going to be teaching as well? Iris was well on her way to becoming a very talented healer, so she wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.

With a few steps she made her way over to the other two within the vicinity, whom she assumed to be Padwans as well, that practice Corellian smirk curling at the corner of her lips. "Since things haven't kicked off yet - I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce myself real quick. I'm Briana Sal-Soren," she explained, proffering her hand in greeting, "but you can call me Bri."

[Luric's Soundsacpe: Enter The Dragon]

3ODUceW.jpg
Gear: Lightsaber

Luric had always been one to pursue every avenue of learning he could. It was ingrained in him from a very early age, ever since that very first day his Aunt Teyla took him out into the courtyard of the Estate and told him of the mystery and wonder that was the Force. How it permeated all things, and through it's influence, the Jedi Knights protected the galaxy from evil. It was all so much more complicated than that, but an eight year old whose parents were either long gone from the mortal coil or out on other worlds with new family needed such heroes to look up to. To emulate, and to aspire to be like one day.

He'd always focused on his swordsmanship once he reached his teenage years, and was quite adept at most Force abilities, yet to use it's influence to heal the physical body was not something he was very good at. He could deal with minor wounding, but even then, bacta patches were his friend. So, he thought perhaps it a good idea to attend this class when his cousin had brought it up to him the other day. And he would find himself walking up toward the training room it was to be held in. Unlike Briana, he was much less stringent in his garb for the day, wearing a loose white button-up, tan trousers, and brown leather sandals. His saberhilt was still affixed to his left hip as always, but he felt like a more relaxed attitude would serve him better today.

As Briana Sal-Soren Briana Sal-Soren introduced herself to the others, Luric came up from behind her, placing his hands on her shoulders, and smiling wide as he gave her a peck on the cheek. "Always so formal, cousin? You really do need to learn to relax a little, hmm?" the young Atrisian said jokingly with a bit of a chuckle. Moving off to Bri's side, he gave a small bow and smiled. "Hollis, nice to see you again." he said to the young woman he'd met at Master Lesan's lightsaber class. He recognized the other padawan, but honestly could not remember his name, a rarity. Still, he introduced himself proper as always. "I believe we may have met as well, but I cannot quite place your name, apologies. Luric Ee'everwest." he said, another small bow. He then looked over at Iris, and waved his hand, smiling at the small sentient missile of a young lady. "And hello again, Iris!"

Truly, if those gathered were attuned to the Force, paying attention to it's ebbs and flows, they would feel the warmth and joy radiating from him freely. It truly did his heart wonders to be back among family, and friends both new and old. The war might be raging, but at the moment, it seemed very far away indeed.

The Zeltron that entered behind Luric was somewhere between ecstatic and anxious. Learning was always a fun thing, but learning about healing was an entirely different thing. Being hooked up to this that and the other medical device throughout her life has given her keen insight into the scientific practice of medicine.

But being able to focus ones self in the force to accomplish enough to keep yourself from needing emergency care was of a decent priority for Lossa.

She wasted no time in using the tips of her pointer fingers to jab either side of Luric's torso before ducking around a desk to make herself scarce.

She still wasn't entirely sure about what he had mentioned with the family relation business, and not broaching the subject with Briana about along with a class starting seemed the wisest idea. It didn't hurt she was attempting to make Luric irritable or at least on the fun side of agitated to keep him from bringing the topic to light.

"Hello hello! Lossa Darcuhl. Pleasure to meet you all! What's your names? This your first class or just brushing up? First time learning this but hoping I'm halfway decent at it." Lossa leaned over a desk to shake the hands of Hollis and Aiden while keeping herself out of reach from Luric before spotting the silvery haired woman.

Her eyes narrowing sharply as she wondered if that had been the same person she'd seen at a few of the hotspots the Coruscant nights had to offer.

Her attention shifting back quickly to the new people in front of her before shifting just as quickly over to Iris. All of which was presented in a mostly overly dramatic series of movements involving her whole body. Most definitely not trying to keep herself from being anxious and letting everyone know it through her empathic abilities.

Definitely not that.

"Iris! Aren't you like halfway to being a healer already?" Lossa whipped her head around as she pondered on that fact openly rather than quietly.

It wasn't long before more students began came through the door.

For some reason, it felt a little bit like her first day all over again. But Hollis did love to make new friends, so the smile on her face was genuine and bright. "Aiden," she said, repeated the boy's name. Then her expression seemed to register recognition, even though she'd never met him before. "Wait, are you Addy's twin?" she asked. "I met her a while back!"

Hollis' gaze shifted to Briana Sal-Soren Briana Sal-Soren as she came in. The other woman moved with purpose – poise and confidence. As she introduced herself, Hollis' dark eyes widened slightly. This was Bri. While it might have been a bit of an advantage to know about someone before meeting them, Hollis just felt awkward. She'd heard about Bri from Justice – from the memory she'd witnessed of when he'd lost his arm – and from Master Noble mentioning her padawan.

Everything fell into place.

"It's nice to meet you, Bri," she said, extending her own hand. "I'm Hollis Orenn."

Thankfully, Hollis bit her tongue enough from blurting out anything awkward. For another young woman, Lossa Darcuhl Lossa Darcuhl had entered. "Hi," she said, giving her a small wave. "Nice to meet you as well!" And she gave Luric Ee'everwest Luric Ee'everwest a nod of greeting and a warm smile. She did recognize him from the Lightsaber class that had been held recently.

"It's my first time healing, too," she said, glancing Lossa's way once more.

Oh that was a lot of people calling to her out by name. Iris blinked, glancing up from her datapad to just offer a small wave to the growing group. Lots of familiar faces. She smiled softly as she turned her gaze back down. It was good to see people so eager to learn. Especially the trio of family. The Sal-Soren cousins. Heh, was an interesting name at least. Lossa probably wouldn't be too pleased with it.

"I am a healer. But it never hurts to touch up on the basics, right?" She glanced to Lossa, raising a brow once she caught what the pink girl said. That was fine, right? That she was here?

Hopefully.

Finishing her caf as the students poured in and started mingling amongst themselves, Kat observed them, curious to see what she could gleam from them. It seemed two were related, a few knew each other from other classes and being around the temple. It was interesting to see, rising to her feet, she binned the empty cup in the trash. Looking around, "well, glad that you guys started greeting each other and such. I'm Kat Decoria, not a Jedi myself but spent over ten years focused solely on Force Healing and working in various hospitals, refugee camps and mobile medical units across the galaxy. I have seen plenty and to this day, will say that I am still learning about Force Healing and how to be a Healer."

Looking over to Iris, someone she had previously taught and offered a warm, friendly smile, "while this might be the basics, it is always good to touch on these things, similar how you would retrain basic fighting moves in your Lightsaber combat training, you can do the same with the Force. So, no one should feel like they are out of place in this class." Hoping that will settle nerves, "now, if you truly want to be able to use Force Heal on others and become proficient at it then you should be aware that takes a lot of dedication and focus that you might not be able to hone other areas of the Force or understand that you will not be the most proficient fighter out there. Force Healing takes a lot of mental focus to move beyond the basics, even more to master."

Kat then coughed and cleared her throat, realising how serious she must be sounding now, "however, for today, we are doing the basics. Today is something a little more relaxed and easy going. Now, you won't be working with real patients because that is a little advance and can be problematic for me legally. However, we do have synth skin that perfectly replicates human flesh." Kat stated, looking over to Iris again, "if you want, you can help the class out, give us a demonstrate." Smiling again before looking at the class.

"Now, before we get to how to we use the Force to heal, anyone got questions or want to share expectations for the class?" Kat asked the class, her eyes scanning over them all.

"Wait, are you Addy's twin?"

"Unfortunately, yes." Aiden spoke in jest when she mentioned Addison Porte Addison Porte . "Yes, she is my twin sister. I'm glad you guys met." The Padawan was happy that this class was seemed to be getting bigger. His tired and groggy state was complete wiped away as more individuals started to pile in.

Aiden gave a wave and showed a smile to Briana Sal-Soren Briana Sal-Soren Luric Ee'everwest Luric Ee'everwest and Lossa Darcuhl Lossa Darcuhl "Good to see you guys, I'm Aiden." Trying to make somewhat of a quick introduction before the class fully started. This class was particularly important to him mainly because of the healing factor. That was where his area of focus and such was. At least for the time being, other areas would need to be worked on but for now this was his primary goal.

The padawan had known Kat Decoria Kat Decoria from, well that was a discussion for another time. She looked to be busy so he would wait until class started before he asked any questions if he had any.

He turned as Kat began to speak, and like he felt he knew. There was a never ending cycle of learning that a healer would go through. It just goes back to what his father had told him. A Jedi never stops learning.....

There is no ignorance, there is knowledge....

There was something in Hollis' expression that made Briana pause, but she hardly had the time to consider what it might mean before Luric came up from behind and drew her attention, planting a kiss against her cheek.

Cerulean eyes narrowed slightly and her brows followed suit, shooting him a withering glare that was softened by a glimmer of faint amusement that ticked the corner of her lips, "You're relaxed enough for the both of us," she countered, poking at his stomach.

"What would my mother say if she saw you come dressed like a Jedi hobo, to class?"
then gave him a mostly playful shove, eluding Lossa's antics which drew a much more genuine smile from her as she left the grouping to go and take a seat.

When Kat asked if they had any questions before getting started, Briana opted to stay quiet. There wasn't anything particularly pertinent that she felt she needed to ask quite yet, and was as always, eager to dive into the meat of the lesson.

"Well met, Aiden, well met indeed." came from Luric with a smile and a small bow of the head. He was truly glad to be among the Jedi once more, his own sabbatical still weighing heavily on his mind. There was much to reconcile within his heart and his soul, but that would be addressed another time. For now, he was content to be in the here and now, in this room, with these people. Wincing in jest as Briana poked at him, he couldn't help but laugh just a bit. She always tried so hard to be proper, stoic, and steely-eyed. Luric, however, knew her better than most. At her core, he knew Briana was still struggling with her own decisions in life, but would never dare let anyone see it publicly. He couldn't blame her for that, they both had their problems, but perhaps they might lean upon one another as they once did as kids and teenagers again.

Before he could get a word out in reply, however, he jumped slightly as the pink-hued Zeltron decided to poke at his sides from behind. He sighed, and looked to Lossa as she ducked and weaved away from him, but he couldn't even remotely be upset. She was just trying to have a bit of fun at his expense, and after the way that they had met and the events thereof, he felt it prudent to let her relax as she needed. He was nothing if not perceptive, and had decided against questioning her on such topics. If she felt the need, however, as he said before, she could always come to him if she needed an ear to listen. "Hello there, Lossa." he said with a smile and a playful wink to let her know all was well.

Turning back to Briana, he nodded in kind to Hollis and Iris, before looking himself over a moment. "And what, pray-tell, is wrong with how I am dressed? If one is to meditate and call upon the Force, one should be comfortable and serene as to let nothing distract from their study." he said, wagging a finger at his cousin as he too took a seat. He, however, would sit upon the floor, crossing his legs in a lotus position. As Kat spoke, he remained quiet, opting not to ask anything quite yet. After all, he was here to learn, as were they all.

The poke was well received, Lossa giving him a beaming smile as the nerves calmed for the time being. She waved back to Hollis as Iris mentioned her reason.

"That's probably a good idea really. Never hurts to refresh I guess." Lossa nodded, sliding into a spot as the instructor made their own introduction.

The question of expectations had her mind racing.

"Um. So. Are we going to be...damaging, the synthskin or do they have some-" Her hands waved in little circles in front of her to help figure out how she wanted to ask before frowning. "Stuff already done to them like lacerations, contusions, or burns? Or would some of that be a little more advanced?"

Looking around, most were quiet and awaiting the class to begin in full before they asked their questions. Which was fair, though Kat had been hoping to cover the most burning questions before they started. Gesturing for the synthskin to be brought in, helpers placed a small part before each student as Kat stood before them. Lossa had asked some questions that Kat was more than happy to answer, "so, to start with you will be dealing with simple cuts. These are the easiest to heal using the Force, these cuts aren't always the important ones you will want or need to heal in battle since basic first aid kits can treat these. However, you are all beginners and it can be too risky to perform harder heals without risking your own life."

Grabbing a dagger, she passed each student and slashing a simple, not too deep cut into the synthskin. No blood trickled from the wound but they could see the flesh separating. "Now, Force Healing can be seen as a way of using the Force to encourage and guide cells into accelerating growth and repair. Not weaving the skin back together through magic but encouraging the body to speed up the healing process it already has. This is important to notice because you aren't able to heal every wound and do not expect your healing to cure life threatening injuries."

Moving to the front once again and looking over to the class once again, "touch the synthskin, feel the Force flow from you and the skin itself, connect to that flow and guide the Force. Aim to heal the wound, repair the injuries and do not fret if it doesn't work first time or if it is taking a long time to work. This connection is not the easiest and it is not for everyone. Similar to how not everyone is able to be skilled in Lightsaber combat but can be good in the Force."

Hollis sat with a quiet smile on her face as she watched the others. Her eyes flickered back and forth between all of them; they seemed well acquainted. But there wasn't time to question their connections at the moment.

Turning her attention to their instructor, Hollis listened.

As Kat passed by and made a slash through her synthskin, Hollis watched as the artificial skin parted into a gash. Of course, it wasn't real – and there wasn't any blood or gore… but the way it behaved was realistic enough to make her stomach drop. While this was certainly a skill she needed to know, Hollis knew that the path of a healer was not for her. She was far too squeamish.

Her index finger gave the synthskin a tentative poke when they were prompted to touch it. Then, Hollis held her hand out over the wound in an attempt to do what Kat had instructed. However, it wasn't as easy as it sounded. Hollis paused a few times to look down at the cut… nothing was happening.

Ah, Synthskin.

The bane of her existence.

Iris frowned just a little as she stared at the fake flesh. Back when she first learned how to do this, it seemed impossible. There was no life. No feeling. No nothing. Just fake, man made. It took far more effort of her to actually knit it all together. And yet, she was able to. She closed her eyes for a moment, focusing instead on prying through the colors to find that which the flesh made.

Knit it together.

She let out a breath, relaxing her shoulders. Glancing towards the others. Right.

"Because it's not alive, it's much, much harder to actually heal. There is no strong connection to the Force. But everything is, in one way or another. Search for it, find that connection. Help it heal. If you can heal this, it'll be that much easier to heal a real wound, right?"

Aiden couldn't' help but chuckle lightly but he cleared his throat as to cover it up. Not laughing at the situation or the instructor, but just something that she said in reference to being a skilled healer and not being to skilled in the arts of lightsaber combat. That touched on Aiden's situation pretty perfectly, not something he was upset about or anything like that, but he was indeed working on that still. Just taking the training day by day, even the healing portion.

Aiden took the knife that was given to them and he went up towards the synth skin and made an incision into it. It looked real enough to be quite honest. He set the knife down and stepped closer towards the table. He took a small, yet deep breath and exhaled all the while closing his eyes. The Jedi Padawan's hand hovered just a hair over the incision.

The force, wound, the opening and everything around him seemingly became more apparent than ever. His senses and attention honed in on the wound that he made. Slowly but sure the wound began to heal itself. This part Aiden couldn't help but smile, because it seemed so natural like a second nature. Almost as if he had been doing this his entire life. Now that wasn't the case, but he couldn't help but feel good about it. The wound recovery wasn't perfect, but there was definitely room to grown and improve as he opened his eyes and cleared his throat. He took a step back and awaited for further instruction.

Briana stared at the synth skin, her brows furrowing slightly as she concentrated, trying to focus on the flow of the Force and repairing the artificial wound. She'd given pieces of her own life force in the past to save others, to help them, but that was not the same as what their instructor was describing and found that she couldn't draw energy from the same place. Briana closed her eyes, giving the illusion that she was doing as asked...nothing happened.

Opening her eyes, she felt her cheeks flush, making a concentrated effort not to look around at the others various stages of progress.

"How do I do this..." she whispered, quite unused to the feeling of not having something come easily for her.

Iris Arani said:
"Because it's not alive, it's much, much harder to actually heal. There is no strong connection to the Force. But everything is, in one way or another. Search for it, find that connection. Help it heal. If you can heal this, it'll be that much easier to heal a real wound, right?"

It was almost as if Iris had some how heard her quite question, being that it was exactly what she needed to hear to regain some confidence.

Closing her eyes once more, Briana concentrated until she felt a numb tingling extend from her palm to the tips of her fingers, that sudden rush that she usually felt during a duel, an instinctual knowledge that informed her of where to move. Briana zeroed in on that feeling and searched for its source, yet like trying to hear yourself think, it seemed to sit outside the realm of what was possible.

Still, she continued to probe, feeling her body and mind relax as the Force spread out and the synthetic tissue slowly, carefully, knit itself seamlessly back together.

The questions answered, Lossa simply nodded as she watched Kat walk about and slice the synthskin. There seemed to be a mix of responses to the act, and she couldn't help but listen to Iris speak on the matter.

Lossa wasn't the greatest when it came to the force, but she felt halfway confident about this.

"Gotta stitch up the fake skin. Gotta make it look good again. Gonna save the fake man from an accident in the kitch-an." A quiet little song she sang under her breath to help her focus on the synthskin.

Iris was definitely right about being difficult to sense. Her brow furrowed as she repeated her words, eventually drawing upon that sense of other. She couldn't describe it other than a space being occupied silently.

Something was there. And there was a split along what should have been a smooth...nothingness. Her lip twitched at how silly she felt in the moment. A sigh escaping as she focused on that feeling of other to attempt mending it.

The cut pulled together slowly, painfully slow. The effort of making it cohesive greater than she had expected as her whole body began to lean into the table.

Eventually sealed, Lossa blinked as she found herself with an arm supporting her hovering over the synthskin.
