DESCRIPTION

The forge (both the building and the oven-like creation within it) are old. Some say that the forge was the first building erected by the Larraq Clan when they settled the farmstead. Though none really know for sure. Thick, sturdy wood pillars are spaced every so often along the walls of the forge. Not one had been replaced in five generations. The ceiling was similarly made of thick wooden beams.

One would assume that a forge would need to be made from stone, or metal, or anything but wood. But the wooden pillars that made the Larraq forge were thick and old and could hold up to more heat than a traditional Durasteel I-beam. Each simply withstood heat better than metal.

The wood was old and strong, like the old way of doing things.

Don't forget the old ways.

That was what each generation of Mando'ad was taught as they learned to work the tools and machines kept within the forge. Though the number and complexity of machines within this building was very low. Each piece of metal to find itself forged into creation within these four walls was hand crafted with more skill and artistry than any machining process could ever achieve. And it was for that reason that people came from far and wide to the straw-covered dirt floors of a smelly old cabin to beg and barter for some of the best examples of Mandalorian Craftsmanship in the galaxy.

In modern times though, the Larraq family has suffered through the same hardship that has claimed the lives of millions of Mando'ade. With most of their land destroyed by natural disaster and the water table turned acidic, the Larraq family now relies upon their Blacksmiths more than ever. While most of what is created by these Blacksmiths is traded to Mandalorian clans and families (mainly to Clan Dem'adas) for food and supplies, a resent and distain for the clans and leaders that betrayed Manda'yaim and brought about the planet's wrath has caused the Larraq family to shun trade with certain clans. Likewise, the family has found itself welcoming the odd outsider to the brokering table if their offer is worth while.

RATIONALE

For generations, House Larraq was a small clan that centered itself around Bralsin, a small community not far from Keldabe. The Larraq Homestead, a 200 acre patch of land spotted by a handful of homes, barns, stables, and other assorted buildings, was typical for the area. The Larraq Clan farmed this land and raised livestock on this land for generations, with each generation protecting what their ancestors had left them and adding to it with the work of their own two hands. Chief among these works were the creations of the Larraq family Blacksmiths, specialists that spent their entire lives learning their trade from previous generations and passing down family secrets to the next. For the last three decades, the family forge was ran by the eldest Smith in the family, Fraklin Larraq, grandfather and tutor of Mishka Larraq.

That all changed the day The Fire Nation Attacked Mandalore freaking exploded.

As millions of Mando'ade were crushed by falling debris, smothered by superheated pyroclast, or buried alive in molten lava, the people in the remote farmland of Bralsin succumbed to the same panic that swept through the rest of the world. Some took shelter in place, and others sought the safety of space. Lacking any readily available ground-to-orbit capable craft, the Larraq family gathered their beasts and took shelter in the sturdiest of the Homestead buildings.

On the morning after Manda'yaim lashed out in anger at her children, Mishka and the other survivors of her family ventured out into a blackened world, sky too choked by clouds for light to reach the surface. Above them though, rested an old and rusted metal behemoth. Sometime in the night, as the world raged against her people, Mishka's brother, Rygel Larraq, had ordered one of the few Harvester-class Mobile Mining Facilities not destroyed by the initial earthquakes and eruptions to make best speed for his family's home and assume a protective stance over the people he knew would be either too stubborn or too remote to evacuate. With legs outstretched and it's powerful shield system deployed (a thing designed specifically to withstand these sort of environments and worse), the Harvester still stands guard over 38 acres of the Larraq Homestead.

While the debris settled and millions of Mando'ade remained missing and presumed dead, her brother among them, Mishka and the surviving members of her family took up the daunting task of continuing to live on a forsaken world. With five-sixths of House Larraq's land exposed to the acidic rain, ashfall, and near-toxic atmosphere of the modern Mandalore, and the remaining 38 acres of land sitting under a sunless sky (within the bubble of protection afforded them by the massive machine they affectionately call Rygel), the Larraq family now relies almost entirely on relief supplies from neighboring planets to continue their existence on a world that would forever be their home, no matter the state of it. To facilitate this, Clan Larraq has turned to it's skilled craftsmen, bartering hand-crafted goods for food, water, and fresh air.

While Fraklin Larraq still runs the family forge and leads the Blacksmiths in their tasks, the aging Mando'ad is not fairing well. A persistent cough and frequent bouts of pneumonia have the family worried and leave child prodigy Mishka to pick up more and more of his responsibilities.
