OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To add to Lao-mon's bestiary.
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Shi'ido
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Hor'ib (more commonly known as Hypno Dragons in Basic)
  • Designation: Non-sentient
  • Origins: Lao-mon
  • Average Lifespan: 15-20 standard years
  • Estimated Population: Planetary
  • Description: Massive lizard creatures native to the jungles of Lao-mon. They are most recognizable by their "hypno-frill", a trait found in females of the species which can hypnotize prey and some predators, humanoids among them.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average Height of Adults: 3.6 meters (12 feet)
  • Average Length of Adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Skin is scaly, with a green/brown camouflaged coloration.
  • Hair color: They don't have hair.
  • Distinctions: Only females have the "hypno-frill" around their necks.
  • Races: N/A
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive
Strengths:
  • Hypnotic: Female hor'ib possess a frill around their necks which is colored in such a way that looking directly at it can hypnotize you. If they are hungry or protecting a nest, the hor'ib will then gut your stupefied self with their jagged claws.
  • Sharp Teeth and Claws: Hor'ib are capable of doing considerable damage with their clawed wings and feet or their spiky throats. Female hor'ib are especially aggressive and territorial during their mating season, and will fight tooth and nail to protect their young.
  • Armored Skin: The body of the hor'ib is covered in a hard scaly armor that is resistant to heat and energy, such as that of blaster bolts and lightsabers.
  • Natural Camouflage: Similar to the Shi'ido, hor'ib bodies are quite malleable, allowing them to shift and change colors in order to blend in with their environment. These abilities are more limited than a Shi'ido, however - the alterations are only skin deep, and they cannot make themselves smaller or larger or completely change shape.
Weaknesses:
  • Not So Hypno: The hypnotic effect of their frills will only work if you look directly at the frill. Most people know not to look at it.
  • Eyeless: Hor'ib do not have eyes and are quite blind, only able to see via echolocation.
  • Wings: The wings of the hor'ib are quite thin and filled with a web of veins. Any wound sustained to their wings will not only prevent them from flying, but will bleed profusely, potentially causing them to die of hemorrhaging.
  • A Chink in the Armor: There is an exposed spot uncovered by their natural armor near the lower belly of the hor'ib.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore; hor'ib are mainly meat eaters, but have been observed to eat plants if game is scarce.
  • Communication: Body language. They also use pheromones to attract mates, but then every other species does that.
  • Technology level: N/A
  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A
  • General behavior: Hor'ib are typical predatory animals. They typically stay away from populated areas and don't exhibit aggression toward non-prey unless provoked. Females of the species tend to be more vicious than males, but usually only for the sake of protecting their nests.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Out of all the native species on Lao-mon, the hor'ib seem to have the most in common with the Shi'ido. While their ability to camouflage themselves is no match for Shi'ido skinshifting, they have other abilities which make them fearsome predators, including the ability to fly, sharp talons and spiked throats, and a well-armored exterior. They are most famous for their hypno-frills, which as the name implies, can hypnotize their prey/opponent, provided they are looking directly at the frills.
