Honoring the Honorless

Kendrix took a long glance out the alley way making sure no curious eyes were looking back at them. She then placed her hand an inch from his wound. Her eyes closing as she focused and blocking everything out of her mind.

A faint glow formed on her hand as she began to call the force to heal him. The meditative trance helping her to concentrate on the ability and the force. This wasn’t the temporary healing that the darkside brought. She wasn’t using the darkside. Instead she used the true form of healing. The light side of the force. Using the light side to heal as much as she can soothing and restoring the burnt flesh. She managed to make the wound smaller at least.

“My master believes that the Sith and the Jedi limit themselves by choosing only one side of the force,” she spoke softly part of her worrying that he would have a melt down and call her a jedi. “The dark jedi have learned their is strength in both sides of the force, but they are unrefined. They do not have the discipline of the sith to grow strong. This is where all others falter.”

Mullarus gave her a look. This sounded familiar. Jedi who walked the line between light and dark, learning all there is to know about every side of the Force there is, yet dedicating themselves to neither. They simply walked the slim line that separated them both. He studied them a bit on both Coruscant and Glee Anselm.

Grey Jedi.

Some of the records at his master's academy on Glee Anselm described them as "Just another form of the scum we slay". Certainly sounded like what his own master would call them. The Coruscant Academy went more in depth. That was where Mullarus found them interesting.

But Mullarus was a Sith. He was no "Dark Jedi", and it would take a lot of convincing to make him want to claim a title with "Jedi" in it.

"I appreciate it, Baralin, but I am not interested in the Light Side. Like it or not, I am Sith. I won't study the Light until I have mastered the Dark, and I still have much to learn."

She frowned her head lowering as her eyes look away, “I never asked that of you.”

She pulled his robe back over him. The whole time feeling a pain in her chest. A pain she hadn’t felt since she was on Retalik. She was a Seregwaur. Dirt blood. The term was originally coined for those born of an affair. In her case, the term was used for her halfling status. The Theowei made sure she knew she was different and now… She was being reminded yet again.

“Do you know what I love most about children?” Kendrix spoke calmly. Her eyes admired his robe. “They see what is basic. I am not pure. I am not honorable. I am not bound to one race. Neither am I bound to one affinity. The don’t see that yet they see me and accept me for what they see. They see a girl. They do not know the difference in my races nor do they care. Thier minds are not clouded by prejudice. They are naive. They will ask for your name and then the next sentence out of their mouth is, ‘Do you want to be my friend?’ If only the galaxy could be as simple as children. You and I might actually get along.”

“We are sith shouldn’t we…” She took a step back from him then shook her head. Her eyes darted over him trying to decide what she planned to do next. Sith were not ones to have friends yet he would make a formidable enemy that is for sure.

“Peditham hi sui vellyn?” She paused taking a deep breath. Her left hand rubbing the knuckles of the right. This moment was unlike her. All she had ever know was betrayal. “May we speak as friends now?”

A hand reached up to Mullarus' face. "Ah...forgive me for jumping to conclusions. I still have a lot to learn."

He listened closely to her, matching his gaze of indigo to hers of violet and gold. Her voice continued to sound...strangely soothing to him. It was like an echo in the Force he could not explain. It was there, but...why?

He briefly remembered a young woman he had met back home on Anaxes. A beautiful woman with long golden hair and bright green eyes, like the forests of Endor in the spring. Her name was Catherine, but she preferred to be called Cath. Every time Mullarus, or as he was referred to back then, Krux, saw her or heard her name, an alien sensation would fall over him like a wave. There would be a tightening in his gut that he also could not explain. His heart would beat faster than normal. Of course, this was only when he was around a decade old. His friends called it a 'crush', which sounded childish.

What did Baralin have that made Mullarus feel this way again? Was it how she was a Sith like him, only she had a heart? Was it her intellegence? Her uniqueness? Beauty alone would not be the reason, Mullarus had met and spoken with many beautiful women before.

Only then, Mullarus heard one of the strangest questions he had been asked since formally joining the Sith. Speak as friends? You have to ask permission for that now?

A grin formed on Mullarus' face and he let loose a soft chuckle. "Have we not been doing that already? I mean, I didn't even think you liked me enough to want to, but we aren't tossing daggers at one another's throats, so I figured we already were 'speaking as friends'.

Such an odd question, yet it brought Mullarus some comfort to know Baralin did not secretly despise him. How ironic it was that she would talk about children and the simplicity of their minds, and immedeatly after, she asks such a childish question.

She really is...unique.

Her lips curled into a smile before finally allowing the grin on her face, “We are being peaceable beings. I have found that most among the rank of sith do not take friends. They think having the word is just as terrible as having honor.”

She found her heart beating harder as he watched her. It was a feeling she couldn’t place. She felt she was safe with him and yet she felt afraid in away. She didn’t let people near her for a reason. She had faced so much growing up on Retalik. She lost the only person who ever loved her, and her heart begged every day for him to be returned to her.

She wanted to trust Mullarus however. She wanted to believe he could be trusted. Only time would tell.

“I leave Coruscant tomorrow,” she was indifferent at the moment but maybe as time passed she would find that statement disappointing. “My sister and I are returning home. Perhaps before then though we can be friends. What do you usually do on Coruscant?”

[member="Mullarus"]

Before meeting her, Mullarus could not recall coming back to Coruscant that often before. His days of training at the Temple there were mostly over. If he sought a peaceful place to meditate or study, he would make his way to his master's Academy on Glee Anselm. Coruscant was a busy world with too many people. Mullarus preferred to keep away from it.

"The Academy here is the only real reason I ever come to Coruscant, and even then, I dont go there often anymore. My time there is done for the most part. Not to mention...Coruscant's too damn crowded. There is no peace behind it's crowded streets and neon signs. Peace may be a lie, but I still seek it. It should be the reason all Sith fight.

[member="Kendrix"]

“I agree,” Kendrix smiled lightly. “My master and I believe there is more than one form of peace. The one to be wary of is the one that makes you stagnant. Blissful ignorance. One must always be proactive and strive for betterment. If you stop, then you give others the chance to be stronger.”

She went back to the street then checked to make sure he was still with her, “You seem to like this planet as well as I do. It overwhelms me still at times. This place is nothing like Retalik. I’ve only been to one other planet like it, but most planets to me are more like Coruscant. Planets that are one large city… The planets of this galaxy makes me miss my homeworld even more.”

[member="Mullarus"]

"Your master sounds like a smart guy" Mullarus said, "I hope I may meet him someday"

He rose a brow at her comment on how he seemed to like Coruscant. "As a matter of fact, I do not like Coruscant. It still reeks of the Jedi and the Republic to me, there are stains of corruption everywhere you turn that isnt the lanes full of speeder miles up in the atmosphere, and people like the family we ran into yesterday who suffer from this world's corruption. Yet just like the Republic so long ago, the Empire cannot clean it's streets. They are forever tainted. I suppose the stentch of the Jedi is why the Empire wanted a Sith Academy here. Smelling the ancient ignorance and hypocrisy feeds our passion."

[member="Kendrix"]

“Corruption should be purged,” Kendrix said the sentence with batting an eye. “Those who commit crimes should be properly punished. The streets are ‘stained’ because there is not enough incentive to stop. Criminals here are given a pat on the back for crimes it seems. On Retalik, you recieve lashes for lesser crimes. Cheating spouses receive a scar on their face if their husband or wife chose to break the bond. If you are caught stealing, you lose a hand. I will not tell you what they cut off if you are found guilty of rape.”

“This is necessary however,” Kendrix walked close beside Mullarus careful not to lose him in the crowd. “Crime is almost nonexistent on my homeworld. The citizens know their place and live peacefully. Perhaps you would like it. Perhaps you might find it boring however. Most off-worlders found it boring and left as soon as they could.”

[member="Mullarus"]

He chuckled softly, "It sounds like a world i'd love to visit. One with actual justice. Boring is good, my friend. Boring is safe and just."

He walked close to her, his arm occasionally touching hers as they walked down the street. "Uh...where are we going, again?"

[member="Kendrix"]

She grinned at him with a twinkle in her eye, “I could take you there one day...”

Her words trailed off with the thought of wanting to take someone to her homeworld. A world that could be easily dominated and she wanted to show it to him, a boy she had just met. He was different however she could see this. She wanted to trust him, but deep down her heart told her otherwise just as it did everyone else. With time, maybe he would show her how he can trust him... or not.

His question brought her back to the busy street. She purposefully bumped shoulders with him then chuckled, “Maybe the journey is more important than the destination this time?”

[member=Mullarus]

"Heh...I suppose. You're proving to be good company, Baralin. I don't think i've been so comfortable speaking to another Sith before." His words were sincere. Finally, he looked at her once more, "I wouldn't mind seeing Retalik. If you don't mind."

[member="Kendrix"]

She thought about that for a second as well, "I must be fortunate then. My master cooks for us, myself and his master as well. We enjoy each others company. He says that one should embrace their companions but do not cling to them. You make yourself weaker and prepare yourself for betrayal."

Her eyes focused straight ahead as he mentioned Retalik. After today would she even see him again? She didn’t plan to return to Coruscant. The path would split for the two of them. The chances of them meeting again soon would be fate… and Kendrix didn’t believe in fate. "One day maybe..."

As they reached the marketplace, they stopped at the impassable wall of people. It must have been the busiest part of the day. Kendrix wanted to believe that half of the city was here, but then again the planet was a city.

[member="Mullarus"]

Mullarus placed his hands behind his back and observed the crowd of people. Who would ever want to live on such a crowded world, he thought. Mullarus tried to look for a way around them, but could see no such route.

"We're going to get seperated if we go through this crowd. Do you want to just meet on the other side?"

[member="Kendrix"]

He was right they would get separated. She looked for a way around as well. Then glanced up, “We don’t need to.”

She tugged at his robes pulling him over to the side of the building. Kendrix took a running go then scaled the side grabbing hold of the window ledge. She then pulled herself up and leapt over to an awning over hanging over one of the market stores. She turned to fall into it with her back so that she wouldn’t hurt her limbs. The awning acting as a spring and bouncing Kendrix. Like Mullarus, the rest of the being in the marketplace didn’t look up. They went about their shopping without a care. Kendrix moved over so that Mullarus could join her own the awning.

“So what does Mullarus mean? Your parents named you this for a reason, yes?” Kendrix smirked.

[member="Mullarus"]

He watched her scale the side of the building and place herself comfortably on top of one of the awnings. He was surprised the other beings of Coruscant didn't turn their heads to her attention. It wasn't every day somebody did this. Er, well, Mullarus wouldn't really know.

He himself had never been a very agile person, at least when it came to climbing. Maybe this could be an opportunity to impress Baralin, however, so he decided to try and take the risk. He started taking the same route as her, climbing slowly along the windowsills, but slipped and fell about ten feet above the concrete.

Nothing broke his fall, so it hurt. A lot. He simply laid there for a minute, severe pain in the back of his head and back. His tailbone felt broken, as well.

[member="Kendrix"]

She assumed he would be up in the awning by now he wasn't however. She didn't see him. She only heard the sound of a body hitting the ground below. She rushed to that side looking down at Mullarus. She was about to climb back down to him when she notice a security officer making his way to Mullarus. She could afford to get arrested. She ducked her head and called down to him, "Mullarus, get up. Get up!"

[member="Mullarus"]

The security guard helped Mullarus to his feet, who looked to be in pain. However, he could stand, so it was not that bad. He thanked the guard as he returned to his post. Mullarus looked up at Baralin and started climbing again, more careful this time.

Finally, he got up and sat down next to her with a heavy sigh. "Ouch..."

[member="Kendrix"]

For the rest of the day, Kendrix tried to make heads or tails of the man she had met the day before. The rest of the evening went better. She felt relaxed with him. In away he reminded her of home. The time in her youth when she thought nothing could go wrong. She tried her best to banish the feeling, but it resurface anytime she subconsciously let her guard down. At the end of the day, she regretted they would be gone from Coruscant before the next morning. The chances of the two sith meeting again were slim in Kendrix mind, and she didn’t believe in fate. When it came time to part ways she gave him a light kiss on the cheek then bid him farewell.
