THE STORY SO FAR
  • After liberating the Kathol Outback, a shadowy Rebel Underground plants the seeds of what will become the Outer Rim Coalition.
  • When a Great Galactic War shifts the balance of power back into the hands of the Sith, rumors spread throughout Coalition space of the Underground’s return.
  • Outer Rim rebels wage a shadow war against the Sith Empire and other darkside agents. The Coalition grows more militant.
  • Tensions grow with the Core Worlds after another breakdown of law and order. Warlord aggression fosters populist support for a return to the old ways and an Outer Planets Alliance is born.

WELCOME TO WILD SPACE
While the Alliance has rebel outposts and fortresses scattered throughout its territory, most of the southern rim is empty void with the occasional frontier colony or mining operation. Hyperlanes are few and unreliable meaning travel can take weeks or even months at the longest.

It is impossible to maintain order so the Allied Fleet does not try. While OPA ships are perfectly willing to conduct anti-piracy or search and rescue operations the average wait times for outside help means most isolated systems or local star clusters are on their own.

Piracy and crime is rampant but those aren’t the only dangers out here in the black. Rogue gravity wells, freak ion storms, pockets of space like the Kathol Rift where the laws of physics themselves break down. Welcome to the edge of the unknown. Anything is possible.

WESTERN REACHES
Western Alliance space is a hardy borderland region prone to outbursts of violent pro-Imperial activity. Influence from the First Order Exclusion Zone has bled in along with refugees. Worlds like Terminus and Zonju V are OPA hotspots precisely because of this social unrest.

The Western Reaches are a trade nexus of Alliance space and so there is a medium security presence in most systems. The Hydian Way and Corellian Trade Spine converge here bringing resources and news from throughout the wider galaxy. The underworld is somewhat active and shadowports are not uncommon.

Piracy and terrorism are problems but there is also a persistent threat of alien incursion from the Unknown Regions. With no First Order to hold the line against predatory races of the far fringe, western space is often a target of raids and abductions.

TRAILING SECTORS
The Trailing Sectors are an unstable and dangerous territory to the east. Some worlds like Karazak and Yuuzhan’tar are openly hostile to the Alliance. Scattered points of light such as Utapau, Pantora and Pamarthe stand against the darkness.

The Trailing Sectors are an untamed frontier so there is a low security presence in most systems. Trade with the nearby CIS border is a profitable but risky venture. The underworld is very active and shadowports are common.

Piracy, slavery, and Vong marauders are all a significant threat to the region. Power here is fractured and decentralized. Powerful criminal havens ensure that things stay that way.

FIVE VEILS
In northeastern Alliance space there is a pocket of systems along the infamous Five Veils Route that is everything the Trailing Sectors are not. Wealthy, stable, and relatively secure. This is in large part thanks to the Svivreni Trade Alliance, a world government whose peacekeeping ships patrol the Five Veils region on missions of humanitarian aid.

THE OLD WORLDS
In the far north what remains of the old Alliance needs little prodding to fly OPA flags. Here on the edge of civilization industrial worlds churn out war material for the Cause. Systems like Sullust, Elrood, and Sluis Van are all major shipyards and manufacturing centers. The Minos Cluster is also heavily populated.

Because of the Old Worlds’ critical manufacturing value and well trained local defenses there is a high security presence in most systems. Travel times are quick enough that distress signals often receive a response from the Sullustan Home Guard or Allied Fleet Search and Rescue. The underworld is not very active and shadowports are uncommon.

While relatively secure there are also some scattered pro-Imperial holdouts from the days of First Order occupation. Garden variety political intrigue is far more common and often just as dangerous.

KATHOL
Ancestral homeland of the Alliance’s rebel forebears, the Kathol Sector and Kathol Outback are also known as the Big Empty. Travel between populated systems is long and difficult. Maintaining simple trade routes is arduous and seldom profitable. Most planets are at a backwater level of technological development. Crime is everywhere. Sounds like home.

For so very many reasons this region of space has a low security presence in most systems. There are a few notable exceptions but Kathol is simply untamable. The underworld is very active and shadowports are common.

Piracy, slavery, wasteland marauders, horrific mutant predators, ancient inscrutable alien beings with arbitrary moral guidelines. The Kathol region is extremely dangerous and not for the faint of heart. Nowhere more so than the malevolent Kathol Rift.

THE GREATER JAVIN
Javin is a northwestern backwater region comprised of the Javin, Anoat, and Yarith subsectors. Its borders are defined by the Twin Nebulae Kiax and Ivax which once complicated navigation through the region however new hyperlanes were blazed a thousand years ago bringing commerce and prosperity to the privileged.

This region of space has a medium security presence in most systems. Most worlds are little more than mining outposts but a stabilizing influence in Cloud City and pro-OPA worlds like Gerrenthum staves off complete lawlessness. The underworld is somewhat active and shadowports are not uncommon.

Not long ago Alliance rebels helped the Greater Javin overthrow Imperial remnants which reigned here. Holdouts are scattered throughout each subsector and then of course there is the local variety of danger. Many of these colonies have fallen on hard times or failed completely and resentment is a powerful recruitment tool for underworld cartels and Imperial cults.
