Sweat beaded along the forehead of the massive lupine as Gerwald watched the final of four battle droids succumb to his combat prowess. The droids were getting be predictable, but the combat practice had been ordered by the medical team which had been dealing with Gerwald's recovery. This was part of the physical therapy to ensure all his gross and fine motor skills were recovering the way they were meant to. The only problem was droids were a far cry from an actual sparring partner. He needed someone that could present him with a challenge and yet was not skilled enough to make the exercise more than it was meant to be, therapy. The last thing Gerwald needed was to be injured while trying to recover. The wold had been benched from more difficult missions for too long now. He wanted back on the field.

A message was sent out on the boards for others looking to train. The time Gerwald had arranged to meet his partner was approaching. The droids had simply been a warm up, at least that is what he told himself. As a warrior Gerwald did not sit still well. He needed something to do, and this was something.

Thoughts crossed Gerwald's mind that perhaps it was time to take a student. He had taught Alwine to fight, what would stop him from teaching others. His only hesitance to the idea was the phrase which had been drilled into him over and over again. Those who cannot do, teach. Gerwald could still fight, so why would he waste his sword by keeping it idle, or only active when a student needed it. No, Gerwald needed to get himself cleared.

This spar was going to prove he was ready.

Drab, surely and entirely.

The dust-fogged day as well as her assignment. Apparently, she was still not trusted to choose her own. She wasn't entirely sure how it happened, who did the selecting, but she always had a fresh itinerary on her personal datapad every morning. And today, after a light breakfast and her solo, initial workout, it was time to play therapist.

Or, an alternative title, let yourself get railed on by a Lupine to 'advance his healing.' Be careful, she had been warned by whoever. The message surely came straight from the medical ward; it didn't seem in spirit of the Knight themselves to say to or about anyone in their ranks. He's still recovering. Then why the actual feth--? Fight fair. Whatever strain of spice the medical staff was on had evidently crafted them their own little world of Loth cats and rainbows bright as the ones on Kamino after one of it's infamous sea storms because life for just about anyone on this desert planet and beyond was full of liability. Especially so were those who built their livelihoods around combat. Force users, non Force users, rarely fought fair, and if they did they lost rather quickly. Even good droid programmings were made to exploit weakness.

But, whatever. Kal just wanted to get through this day like any other, which meant jumping how high her ringmasters evidently wanted her to. And no dangerous lightwhip or energizer arrow shafts.

"Knight Lech..." she glanced back down at her holocommed watch at the accepted board message as she walked into the large training ring, "ner?"

Her voice sounded hesitant, and the scent her glands gave off confirmed it. Gerwald had to admit he did not like the arrangement anymore than the other. Take it easy? Gerwald never took anything easy, but apparently the medical team felt Gerwald needed therapy after he'd been healed by the force. THE FORCE! Did the medical experts not understand everything was fine. He sighed. Back on Stewjon there would have been none of this therapy. Gerwald would have been told to get back in the formation and fight. He would live and die a warrior. His fate was to die with a weapon in his hand, Gerwald knew this. Why were there those who insisted it did not have to be that way.

Gerwald turned to look at the woman as she walked in. She was exactly one foot shorter than him, and not petite in anyway. The woman looked strong and capable, something Gerwald could appreciate. If he was going to fight a woman, he wanted her to be someone that could hold their own against him. His eyes wandered over her, not in any sexual or carnal sense, but enough to size her up.

"I don't know what you were told, but do not go easy on me. Exarch Talon used the force to heal me herself, and she personally saw to my care and recovery. It might be an offense to her if you did, but certainly I will be offended if you do."

Ger smirked.

"Training blades or nah?"

He hoped the woman said nah!

. . .
He asked that and she was simultaneously excited and perturbed. She was carrying training weapons - weapons she had been cautioned to bring and use nothing but. On the one hand, freedom to continue unhindered, on the other, scolding unending. Write ups. Did the Knights have a court martial equivalent? "Look, I'm not jonesing to get in trouble." With a downwards shrug of her shoulder, she let her gym beg slide down her arm, just to catch it the moment the strap went into her hand. She meant that both ways - not with her masters, but surely not with Exarch Talon either.

She better not get caught and, if she did, she better have a story straight.

Kal set her down on top of the cubby wall with on hand and slid her training weapons into a hole with the other. Not the moment after they were put away did she brandish her inactive lightwhip, coiled about the bronze metal handle. "Nah," she answered finally, turning towards him. As she did, she leveled the whip at her waist and let go of its rope. A soft, almost-not-even-there thunk delivered it to the padded floor where it posed like a vine snake. She didn't move to turn it on, though. Walking the fine line between the letter and intent of her assignment would not allow her to. Technically, this whip had been her training weapon when used off.

Then she smirked herself. "Your turn."

"Who said anything about trouble," Gerwald said with a smirk. It was an involuntary response to the way he asked the question. The lupine was fully aware of his past behavior and how his smirk could come across. It wasn't that Gerwald did not find the woman attractive, he simply was not interested in that kind of relationship at the moment. As it was, there was only one woman Gerwald would say he was interested in, and she was dead, sort of. The jury was still out on whether [member="Naedira Darcrath"] was actually dead. Gerwald had felt her presence several times when in the presence of Alkor Centaris.

His eyes watched as the woman retrieved the light whip from her bag.

"Interesting toy," Gerwald said as he stretched his hand out and called his lightsaber hilt to his hand from where it had been resting next to his bottle of water and sweat towel.

The blade was ignited the moment the hilt hit his hand. The ebony blade hummed to life with the familiar snap hiss of the signature weapon of most force users. His eyes focused on the eyes of his opponent. They were dark, hard to read. This was not going to be an easy battle, and Gerwald was happy about it. Nodding to her whip, Gerwald smirked once more.

"You gonna light that thing?"

. . .
Kal rolled those dark, hard-to-read eyes. "Guess 'twas more implied," she huffed before pressing the whip's ignition button. Her meandering blade hissed not unlike his, but the sound droned on long after his ceased, as the whip began to burn itself into the floorboards. She was admittedly much happier to play this way, but the prospect of another Knight catching her behaving how she had explicitly been told not to, and reaping the associated consequences, still loomed dangerously over her as to damper her joyful anticipation.

He had instigated this, so to say. Really, it was his fault if anything happened. She was only obeying an order - a very indirect one, but one nonetheless.

A smooth arc over and around the Squire's head send the lighted whip dancing around her and lashing outwards. The rope hissed more as it hurdled through the stagnant air, alive with both the crackling of plasma and the flexing of underlying, lightweight metal. The length did not reach nearly to Gerwald, though it could have had she aimed more intently; evidently a warm-up strike.

For a moment after, Kal resigned to wait. To give the Knight the first move. But then, she corrected her mindset. After all, she didn't want to offend him by forfeiting even a small advantage on the grounds of his recovery. So Kal dropped her weight, sweeping around her center of gravity with whip intent for the lupine's legs.

Gerwald had instigated a lot of trouble for himself in the past. Most of it had involved trying to discover who he was and what it meant to be part of the larger galaxy as a whole. In fact the Lupine had often felt he needed to travel outside of CIS space more often. He had left once or twice. The trip to Coruscant with [member="Scherezade deWinter"] had been eye opening as to what the galaxy could offer, but it had also been one of many things he wish he could take back. So many moments he wish he could have back and do differently, but he couldn't. Everything had led to where he was now, this duel, recovering from a vicious attack by the same one responsible for killing his best friend, and the one person he could honestly say he loved in the way one was meant to. Gerwald still did not know what that meant exactly, just that it was there.

He sighed.

"Implied yes... but you won't be the one getting in trouble if I was the one doing the pushing will you?"

At least Gerwald was offering her an out. Regardless she seemed to like the idea of actually using her whip because she responded to his act with igniting her whip in response. It only made Gerwald smile as did the hesitation, but then quick act she took of initiating the duel. Her first strike was intended to show Gerwald what the whip could do, her second movement though, it sent Gerwald leaping to the air, and lunging toward her. With the chord of light and plasma extended, Gerwald came hurling down upon the woman his black blade over his head arching straight down. He wanted to see if she could block the attack or if it would force her to move.

She was the first he'd faced who used a lightwhip, this battle was going to be a learning experience for them both. It was exactly the challenge the recovering Lupine had hoped for.

He was on her before she could recall the whip. A moment's decision forced her to dive out of the way of Gerwald's strike, some sort of dance step between crawling and jumping under the blade at one of the last possible moments. Once on the other side, she sashayed both further away before and a bit behind the Lupine before tugging on her whip. The rope cut through the air with a prolonged, angry hiss, about to lash across his chest as it rebounded to Kalporra.

Gerwald could only raise his blade at the attack which came to lash across his chest. The only problem with it was the woman was using a whip, and Gerwald had never fought anyone with a whip. As the blade coiled around his, the tug nearly made Gerwald lose his grip on the hilt.

Planting his feet the wolf stubbornly held onto the weapon, locking their blades. His eyes looked for something, anything, he could grip with the force to distract the woman. Setting his eyes on her gym bag, Gerwald waved his hand at it and sent it flying toward [member="Kalporra Flynn"]'s face. Hopefully it would make her let go long enough for Gerwald to figure out how to get his blade free.
