Description:

The HHR1-VWS is a variable weapons system that builds upon the ancient DC-17m ICWS used by the Republic Commandos. The VWS has three configurations and an extending and adjustable stock. In the first configuration, known as V1, it is a standard blaster rifle with average range and slightly lower than normal ammunition capacity.

V2 is achieved by attaching a ‘drum’ style power cell to the bottom of the VWS. Range is halved and the weapon is quite bulky, but this is an anti-armor configuration. The large power cell allows the VWS to excite the tibanna gas to extremely high levels and produce two supercharged shots capable of overloading shields or melting straight through armor. However, the VWS cannot be used for fifteen seconds after firing, or else it will overheat. Furthermore, the drum power cell is only good for two shots and will need to be replaced, as will the expended tibanna gas canister.

In V3 the soldier equips a barrel extension to the end of the gun, pushes the switch designating semi and fully-automatic to the symbol v3, and fully extends the stock. A scope can also be added. In this version, the VWS becomes a DMR capable of inflicting punishment from a distance. V3 uses much more power per shot and is capable of punching through standard personal or light body armor, such as plastoid and armorweave. However, the number of shots available before the power cell is expended are reduced from eighty to five.

Each VWS comes with a biometric lock rendering the weapon system unusable except by the trooper assigned the weapon, but with an hour or two to spare the lock could be cracked by a capable hacker. The biometric system also comes with a datachip that records the number of shots fired in battle and is linked with the trooper’s HUD systems. The end result is a weapon that can report on the accuracy, lethality and in general overall competence of the soldier who wields it. The graphs and statistics generated by these reports help the Triumvirate improve their training regimens to produce a more accurate and disciplined fighting force.
