Hespera seldom dwells on her childhood. She holds her past - and the self of her past - in contempt. Maybe she played with dolls, or dawdled with games, friends, first loves. The ease and carelessness of the ignorant - nothing more. Her education began at the age of twenty-two, when the One Sith took power in the core. There, she learned.
She learned lessons of smoke and fire, of pulling through rubble - searching for a familiar face. Of grasping for a hand, only for it to pull of with crisp ease, to drop it and press your palm to your face and taste ashes. She learned a lesson of subjugation - her employment in the Empire natural for the privileged daughter of a government official, her acquittal the result of her vicious distinction of herself when Shulstine V fought for its independence in the collapse.
She studied, and fought, and jockeyed for power, and watched governments fall against the might of the Sith Lords like waves crashing against the rocks - the bloat of the Alliance, the simpering meekness of the Silver Jedi, the directionless militancy of the Dominion. And eventually, she realized, she did not have to help. No, help was not enough.
If she did not ensure that the Sith were destroyed, their disciples killed to the last, their line of knowledge exterminated as thoroughly as one might - if she did not put an end to the Force's tyranny - no one else would.
"Politics is war continued by other means."
And so, she went to war on two fronts.
