GENERAL INFORMATIONDuke Helios Ardemark is a Lord of House Pelagia of the Tapani Expanse, an ex-Alliance marine, and a former representative of his homeworld of Pelagon in the Federal Assembly of the now-defunct Galactic Alliance.
Since the widespread massacre inflicted upon the Tapani by the Sith Covenant, within scant months of the Alliance's collapse, he and many others of his peoples from Pelagia and beyond have fled, and sought refuge in the the Southern Systems, funneling largely into the High Republic.
Helios grieves.
But he will not wallow.

Helios was born the eldest child of Duke Athos and Duchess Malana Ardemark in the City of Pelagar, the capital of Pelagon and Pelagia Province around it. As a son of House Pelagia and his father's heir, Helios was richly educated in such a manner as to lend him well to politics and leadership, and in his off-time, he took to the oceans of his home, becoming adept in the ancient sport of sailing under wind power, among other pursuits such as fencing, writing, and more besides.HISTORY
When Helios approached the age of majority, however, he set his sights further afield than the future laid out for him, and enlisted not within Pelagia's House Defense Force where he would have been afforded a comfortable position commensurate with his noble status, but with the military of the overarching Galactic Alliance, where he would stand a better chance of broadening his horizons more in service with the people outside of the Tapani Sector, in becoming an Alliance Marine.
The training was intense, but his athletic physique and will to persevere saw him through, though not without a little trouble in the form of ribbing about his reluctance to fully participate in the type bonding his comrades took to in their downtime - you see, Helios had a long-time girlfriend, Leandra, back on Pelagon; he spent whatever moments he could get speaking to her or with her, and reinforcing his promise to only serve one term, and their promise to each other to remain faithful.
Helios would never break that promise... but even such a small number of years was a long time for most anyone, and in the end, he and Leandra went their separate ways, when some months before he was set to return home, she confessed to a change of heart - Leandra had fallen for someone else. Heartbroken but far from home, the young Tapani noble assessed his options, spoke to his family, and reenlisted for a second term. He threw himself into his work, wrote fervently, and commiserated with his mates, but nothing could truly prepare him from how it felt to see Pelagon's oceans and the locales of his home city after the split.
She had been woven through his life since he was a boy, and now he was saddled with figuring out who he was and his life going forward, without her, but he could never be anyone other than who he already was: the man who left home to learn for the sake of the people. He had to focus, like the Jedi did, despite any challenge. By the time his second term came to an end, eight years after his initial enlistment, he was good and ready to return home, reacquaint himself with the political landscape, and further cement his earned reputation as a resilient, stalwart, and compassionate man.
Two years on, his hard work lead Helios winning the chance to represent his homeworld in the Alliance Senate, after a fierce campaign triggered by the announced intent of his now-predecessor to retire, coming some months after the Alliance government's move to Fondor. After a transition period where he was brought up to speed by the outgoing Senator and their staff, Helios was ready to assume his new post in the Senate, relocating to Fondor in the Freeworlds Territory of the Tapani Sector, for the bulk of his time. The Alliance was at war, the stain of dark imperialism gnawing at its heart.
And yet, short of a year on from his ascension to the senatorial seat, the Alliance collapsed at the hands of the Empire. His father, ill in health for some time, passed in the preceding weeks. Being ushered in as the new Duke in the midst of this shift in the galactic landscape was unforeseen and despite his grief, Helios took to the work... but the shift in fortunes was far from over. Within a month, other dark wolves came to feast, carving a trail of blood through the Tapani, on their way to gorge themselves on the very Empire that was the Alliance's undoing.
In no position to stand against those wielders of Darkness, Helios did the only thing he could do: listen to his advisers and flee to the Southern Systems, and into the High Republic, the sole bastion of democracy that remains.
He grieves.
But he will not wallow.
