Appearance
Hedda shares a face with thirteen other women.
The bone structure is severe. High, hard cheekbones, a sharp jaw, and a slight, straight, narrow build. Unlike her cloned siblings, Hedda has a bloodless countenance, suggesting something draining beneath the skin, which is true. Darth Vollend, perhaps unsurprisingly, has embraced the dark side of the Force, and considers any physical manifestations of such to be a marker of progress. Her hair, too, skews towards desaturation, more white than the golden blonde of the original source material.
Her eyes are amber, and the corruption is advanced for a clone of her current lifespan. This is purposeful, and she takes the corruption as evidence of progress as a Sith. Underneath that, if you look closely enough, there are traces of green left behind, a marker of the maternal family she has never known and doesn't care to.
She dresses in formal Rhinnalian tailoring adapted for her work. Black, high-collared, structured shoulders, and armourweave layered under a coat cut more like a physician's than a Sith's. The clothes are expensive, but fit for purpose rather than gaudy and loud. What is important is that she is presentable, manoeuvrable, and that unsightly stains are not easily seen.
Hedda holds herself with a straight back and high chin, a posture that can only be described as immaculate. Like many things about her, this has been trained and has a purpose. People who fidget are nervous people who have tells, and those who are still are unflappable and unnerving, and the woman much prefers the latter.
Personality
Hedda Vosk is not a monster, a lunatic, or a masochist.
She was designed to be unlike her progenitor in that respect: the antithesis of a woman known to feel too much and derive pleasure from suffering. Instead, she is cold, disciplined, and believes that everything she does is proportionate. This is because she 'grew up', so to speak, in a house where people were graded, and she was the proof of what success looks like. She is the pinnacle, the apex of the woman whose genetic material she is built from, and she has been told as much.
Having not yet been outclassed in her short life, she has not yet dealt with that pride being damaged.
For Hedda, the ends justify the means. She has no disregard for the lives or well-being of others, and has no qualms about causing harm or killing if it is necessary for the task at hand. Ordinarily, Hedda prefers to avoid unnecessary mess or cruelty, as it is logistically appalling and more often than not undisciplined. This is where she diverges from her father, who (badly) hides his vice of cruelty.
In general, she is polite in a manner typical of Core aristocracy. Well-spoken and holding her tongue, with the deliberate implication that she could have said something much more cutting. She can hold a conversation with anyone, at any level, on a wide variety of subjects and will do it with grace and competency. She has, however, never enjoyed a single one of these conversations.
Lastly, she has a distinct lack of personhood. She was born in a tank, flash-aged to adulthood and has lived a perfectly curated and drilled life. She has never had an idle afternoon, a friend, or a want that wasn't issued. The only thing that matters is being Emil Vosk's perfect daughter, and being told so by him.
Strengths and Weaknesses
[+] Made to Order - She is the fourteenth attempt at creating the perfect, competent Sith daughter. Physically sound, mentally stable, Force-sensitive to a high degree. Every failure noted in the VOSK, E. and the thirteen previous failures have been identified and corrected. She was educated through implantation and drilled in everything her father considered necessary: languages, both living and dead; anatomy; xenoarchaeology; Sith principles; lightsaber combat; etiquette; and more. She is a jack of all trades because Emil Vosk's specification was such.
[+] The Physician's Eye - Emil has taught his favourite daughter the family trade. This makes Hedda surgical in combat rather than powerful; she can identify a weakness based on movement. A favoured leg, an old injury, an attempt to hide a fresh wound. Her surgical eye can find it. This makes it hard to lie to Hedda through physical means; she can spot a limp being obscured or hidden, or laboured breathing.
[+] Immaculate Form - Fast, fluid and economical. Hedda was trained since 'birth' by a father with high standards. She does not tire quickly, overreach, or waste movement. Being the apex is more than just being well-educated, socially presentable and emotionally stable. It requires physical dedication and upkeep.
[+/-] Cold - Her father corrected VOSK, E.'s hypersensitivity so aggressively that Hedda has come out of the vat missing many human components. Fear, panic, grief, rage, or the hesitation that gets inferior people killed. She can be in any situation, no matter how dire, injured or outnumbered and push on. It's not courage, but rather absence. As a flaw, the overcorrection means that Hedda feels very little. She cannot read people by instinct, but by deduction. She is not in tune with nature or emotions and can only mimic the latter.
[+/-] Powered by Envy - Given all that she lacks above, the Sith tradition that draws from the power of passion is problematic. The one avenue that Hedda has is envy. There is a woman out there, somewhere in the galaxy, inferior to her in every possible way but who has something she does not. A soul. VOSK, E. is not only her mission, but also her font of power.
[-] Only Ever Fought Herself - Her training partners were her sisters. Her sisters, who have her exact reach, height, reflexes, and blind spots. She has immaculate form, yes, but against bodies she could predict perfectly. Her operational work for her father has been slowly correcting this, but it is still an issue. An opponent with a vastly unfamiliar build or an unorthodox fighting style would have her at a disadvantage.
[-] The Current Model - Hedda knows her father is still working on clones, and he has not disclosed this to her. She would prefer to believe he has doubts about her specifically because that doubt would imply that there was a standard, and a standard is something that can be met. However, without a condition of completion, being the pinnacle means nothing. She's not an achievement; she's the current entry, and becoming obsolete is one of the few things that frightens her.
[-] No Soul - Literally. Hedda's predecessors are a long line of varying degrees of failure. From VOSK, E., who possesses the real soul, to the twelve others who have fragments of artificial constructs which have either partially taken or resulted in an unmitigated disaster. She was the first created without. Because of this, Darth Vollend does not dream, her death will be final, and she is vulnerable to possession by spirits, which is a very real possibility in her profession and requires proper precautions. Additionally, in a galaxy where the Netherworld is often torn asunder and manifested, there is no telling what misfortune could befall her, or what she cannot access.
Equipment
Lightsaber - Darth Vollend's lightsaber is a plain, unadorned and perfectly balanced lightsaber hilt. The hilt itself is blackened phrik without any additional decorations; however, it has developed some wear from her grip, silvering beneath. The blade is red, and the crystal was personally bled by Hella herself in a trial that required, as she would put it, 'persistence'.
Talisman - Hella wears a spartan flat disc around the circumference of a Digestive biscuit strung by a cord around her neck beneath all clothing. Its purpose is singular: to prevent potential possession by spirits. She has no soul and is aware. Unearthing holocrons, a regular part of her work, means that possession is an occupational hazard. It requires regular feeding to work, and once a week she must spend ten minutes pouring the Force into it directly, which leaves her wrung out in the aftermath. It has yet to be tested.
Field Kit - The physician's essentials and her father's trade in a single black bag. It contains everything she needs to keep a person alive long enough to answer questions, and also everything she needs to take them apart.
Ship - VB-4, a HWK-290 registered to Vosk Biologics and retrofitted as a medical courier craft. On the outside, VB-4 is factory specification, except for the company livery, which identifies the vessel as corporate. Inside, the ship contains sealed cryogenic holds and a sterile transfer bay. The logs are immaculately timestamped and kept. No organic crew other than herself and an ASP-7 droid, which handles loading and unloading cargo, and a 2-1B surgical droid, which monitors consignments and assists potentially injured 'acquisitions'.
The benefits of being a legitimately consigned medical ship are that she gets priority docking, and the contents of her hold do not get opened casually at the risk of spoiling biological materials held within. Because Hedda occasionally transports lab-grown tissue, organs, and other materials to private clients, there is a sense of legitimacy. On the downside, she is perfectly trackable, and her movements are accessible to her father and easily accessed by those who have the means.
History
Emil Vosk's Cultivation Notes
Instance fourteen. First of the new programme, and I record here that the question is no longer whether the line can be reproduced, that was settled with thirteen, at considerable cost, and the result ran away from me. The question now is whether it can be reproduced without the fault.
Decanted without incident. Vitals within tolerance on all axes; no gross morphological deviation. Attunement present and measurable at first assay, which is the first time this has been true at decanting.
Damping to the family hypersensitivity: successful, and more complete than in thirteen. No overload response to proximate distress. Confirmed at day six by controlled exposure.
Speech intact, as expected , the vocal fold correction holds true and I consider the matter closed.
She is calm. She was calm on waking, which none of the others were.
Preliminary designation: Vollend.
Second quarter. Acquisition rate exceptional across all assigned material: languages, comportment, anatomy, applied theory. She does not require repetition. She does not appear to require rest in the manner the earlier instances did.
Affect: minimal. Notably minimal. Under evaluation, though I am not presently inclined to regard it as a fault. The earlier instances failed on excess, not deficiency, and a quiet instrument is preferable to a loud one.
Sparring commenced against Six and Twelve. Twelve remains the superior technician and, by my calculations, will not remain so.
Second year. Assigned the crystal exercise. Subject: One.
She asked whether it was to be quick. I said that was not the nature of the exercise. She did not ask again.
Three days. Longer than anticipated, Subject One's tolerance is well outside projection, and I am obliged to record that the earliest instance endures better than the latest. I will return to this.
She did not stop. That is the measurement I was taking, and the result is satisfactory.
No adverse response in the days following. Appetite, sleep and performance unchanged. One is returned to holding and remains of use.
Fourth year. Moved upstairs.
She understood immediately what it signified and did not remark on it. I confess I had expected some display. There was none, and I find I prefer that.
She is what I said she would be.
Hedda Vosk's Mission Reports
ACQUISITION - [REDACTED SYSTEM], HOLOCRON, GATEKEEPER INTACT
The wards were a pattern I had not encountered. Third-dynasty variant, keyed to lineage rather than intent, which took four days to establish and one to defeat. The gatekeeper attempted a negotiation. It was not in a position to negotiate.
Two site guards were encountered and disabled. In both cases, the intervention was to the right shoulder, and the outcome was identical; I note this only because the second man was some fifteen centimetres taller than the first, and I expected to have to adjust. Neither will recover full use of their arms. Both remain able to work, which I judged sufficient.
Material is in transit.
ACQUISITION - CORELLIAN PRIVATE COLLECTION
Successful. The collector was cooperative once I explained the situation, and I saw no reason to escalate beyond that.
A note on efficiency: I have observed that persons of this class respond considerably better to a physician's manner than to a Sith's. I intend to make further use of this and record it here so that the method is on file.
ASSESSMENT - DANTOOINE, RURAL
Investigatory. No acquisition target. Filed for completeness.
The site is a smallholding of no commercial value, approximately forty kilometres from the nearest settlement, and it was destroyed by fire. Weathering places the event several years prior; I would estimate between two and four, and I cannot narrow it further. Grass has re-established across the footprint.
Findings, in order of usefulness:
The approach terrain is rough, unsurfaced grassland with a gradient. No wheeled chair crosses it. VOSK, E.'s recorded condition at the time of disappearance is therefore either inaccurate, corrected, or she was carried. The second is the more probable and has implications I will set out below.
The fire was not a search, a salvage, or a concealment. Nothing of value was present to destroy. The structure was derelict, remote, and of no interest to anyone. The act was performed for its own sake.
Accordingly: a party with means transported a non-ambulatory subject at considerable expense and inconvenience to a location of no value, in order to burn down a building that was already worthless. No return is identifiable. I have considered leverage, coercion and long-term positioning and cannot make any of them fit the facts, though leverage remains the most defensible reading.
Recommendation: redirect the search from VOSK, E to the second party. Instance one has no resources, no associates on file, and no capacity to arrange any of this. Whoever is funding her has a procurement footprint, medical, at minimum, and probably substantial. That is a search that can succeed.
I arrived late.
I went because I wanted to see it.
I wrote the assessment correctly; everything in it is accurate, and I would submit it if the reason I was there could survive being asked about. It cannot. There was no lead. There was no target. There was a name in a file, a set of coordinates, and I took the ship and went. I cannot find the justification in it.
I stood in the grass for some time. It is very open there.
I did not find what I went for. I am not able to state what I went for.
It was a small house on an empty world, and she was kept in it, unrecorded, for sixteen years by a woman with no method and no interest in producing anything.
My father spent thirty years, a fortune, and twelve failures getting her back out of the Netherworld, and then spent longer creating me because what he got back was not worth what it cost him.
I am the one that worked.
What I will record here, since it will not be read, is that I did not enjoy standing there.
I intend to file this as an error in conduct and not repeat it. The assessment is sound, and the recommendation stands. I will pursue the second party.
