SPECIAL FEATURES
- Can switch between ranged and melee configurations.
- Exceptionally difficult to destroy.
- Excellent range and terminal potential.
- Inherently toxic (in both configurations).
- Minor Stun capability.
- Alchemized: In either configuration, this weapon is highly resistant to most forms of direct damage. Likewise, it never rusts, needs sharpening or cleaning, or sustains other forms of typical mundane wear and tear.
- User-Coded: This weapon bonds to its user, resisting usage or manipulation by others while the prior owner remains alive.
- Afflictive: Heartspit's anomalous metal construction renders it both toxic to living things, and possessed of mild stunning capabilities.
- Two-Faced: This weapon can be utilized as a one-handed sword, or as a bow at the user's choosing.
- Heavy: The mechanisms concealed inside the weapon's hollow blade lead to a somewhat clumsy balance and weight distribution when in its sword configuration, necessitating significant practice to master.
- Workout: In its bow configuration, this weapon requires superhuman (or Force-augmented) strength to utilize to its full potential.
- Single-Shot: For all its sorcerous capability, Heartspit is limited by the nature of its weapon type, capable of firing one shot at a time before requiring a "reload".
A complex and somewhat bizarre weapon, Heartspit was the chosen implement of Darth Dreer's late master.
At first glance, this weapon appears as a sword with a curved, flowing blade. Intricate floral engravings of unclear nature run up the flat of the blade on both sides, where the metal ends at a curiously barbed tip. This can be used defensively to catch and twist away enemy blades, potentially disarming one's opponent.
The blade is designed for one-handed use, but its curious weight distribution means it requires considerable training and practice to master. Nonetheless, it is an alchemized Sith sword, resistant to damage and possessed of considerable armor-cleaving power. Worse yet, the blade is forged of toxic, otherworldly metals, rendering even minor wounds potentially more serious than they may appear. When active, small arcs of cyan-hued lightning occasionally shimmer across the blade's surface, perhaps due to the Storm Iron used in its creation.
At the indentation of a button near the crossguard, the weapon undergoes a swift and remarkable transformation. The blade unfolds, shifting outwards around the former grip and clicking into place to form a large and fairly heavy bow mechanism. The formerly-rigid blade arms become paradoxically pliant, allowing a particularly-strong user to launch the weapon's collapsible arrows with reasonable accuracy.
The bow's draw weight can be set by the user, though this is a somewhat laborious task, unsuited for doing in the midst of battle. The maximum hovers around 1500 lbs, a staggering weight normally greatly in excess of normal humanoid athletic ability. Nonetheless, inhumanly-strong (or Force-augmented) users can launch arrows with enormous power and range behind them.
These standard arrows are stout and heavy, but partly-collapsible, allowing them to be more easily carried without catching on foliage or other such obstacles. When propelled by the inhuman strength needed to wield Heartspit to its fullest, these projectiles can inflict significant harm, pierce many forms of man-portable armor, and (thanks to the Storm Iron used in their construction) potentially threaten light vehicles.
With the press of a button on the riser, the user can collapse this weapon back into its sword configuration.
While its characteristics (aside from the usual Sithblade resilience) are otherwise unremarkable compared to other Sith's personal weapons, this dual nature offers the user a significant degree of tactical versatility. It can be dangerous at long ranges or in close quarters, requiring only the touch of a button to switch. Though a dangerous piece of sharp metal in its sword configuration, the bow configuration is where Heartspit's potential truly shines, allowing the user to inflict death far more quietly and discretely than with a blaster or slugthrower.
Dreer plundered the weapon from his former master, rebuilt and refined its capabilities, and began utilizing it in his field expeditions. Given his stunted connection to the Force, the ability to reliably attack from a distance is a much-appreciated boon.
