Description: Hearthcrystal radiates a gentle warmth, constantly. It is a survival tool designed for the frozen mountain passes of Kilia IV.

Hearthcrystal has its roots in the unique Ankarres Sapphire, of which Mara has been the guardian for some time. Previously, Mara had analyzed the Sapphire in sufficient depth to create lesser versions. One of the Ankarres Sapphire's properties is its tendency to heat up rapidly, even dangerously, when touched or held by a Darksider. As such, the Ankarres Sapphire represents one of very few substances which automatically turns Force energy into something measureable -- heat, to be precise. With time and effort, Mara isolated that single trait and instilled it in lumps and veins of blue quartz.

The resulting substance draws from ambient Force energies to create warmth. Holding a piece of Hearthcrystal on a long mountain trek might save the owner's fingers from frostbite; given enough time, a piece of Hearthcrystal might warm up the inside of a snow shelter or tent. Hearthcrystal retains none of the Ankarres Sapphire's healing properties or other abilities, solely its knack for turning Force energy into heat. Hearthcrystal continues radiating heat regardless of whether it is being held or used by anyone, by a Force-user, by a Yuuzhan Vong, by a droid, etc. Its function is automatic and independent of its owner or lack thereof. There is one exception: if the owner channels the Force through Hearthcrystal in an active and sustained way, the crystal may heat up enough to help start a fire in an emergency.

Hearthcrystal has zero combat applications, apart from those inherent to a rock.
