Private Heart to Heart

Prophet of Bogan
As expected his orders and the subsequent scramble of activity it had caused undid most of Revna's surface level efforts, even if the deeper seeds she had planted within them were still present. Fear and panic overwhelmed most everything else when it came to conflict, the ignition of the natural fight freeze or flee responses setting all rationale and reason aside for a few moments that could prove crucial when it came to decisive action. In this instance failure to account and overcome such lapses in judgement and mindset were of no consequence, but in a real battle it would be the difference between life and death for many involved.

Such was the need for Battle Meditation in the first place, Sith had been trained to control such rampant emotions and flights of thought on a level more intimate than most if any Non-Force Sensitive beings could ever hope to achieve. If any could steady the wayward mind of a panicked soldier or crew member then it was the guiding hand of a Sith. Just as they had learned to channel their emotions and negative outbursts into strength so too could they convert such emotions within those around them to the very same purpose. A guiding light in a turbulent sea.

That was what the crew needed now, and that was what Revna would have to become before they steered themselves into ruin.

Like before Darth Strosius didn't offer any advice or hints, he simply extended out his senses to feel what exactly she was working on with each member of the crew. They each had shortcomings and reservations both about themselves and one another, only together could they succeed yet they didn't quite fit together perfectly yet. She had laid the groundwork for them to unite on task but now was when her ability to do so and their own inherent desires to accomplish this goal would be put to the test.

The combat simulation itself was a fairly simple exercise all things considered, just some predetermined 'lines of fire' for the ship to either avoid or strengthen their shields to compensate against before returning fire on several buoys which projected said lines. Already one could glimpse an automated drone from the viewport deploying said buoys a short distance away from the ship, just out of range of its weaponry so that it would be forced to maneuver towards them one way or another.

Every member of the crew would have a specific goal to accomplish in order for them all to succeed in the simulation, whether that be the communication and sensors officers giving accurate placement of the buoys to the navigator or the calibrations for the weaponry needing to be shifted as the ship itself angled a different way. All had to work in tandem in order for the simulation to be completed properly, something that they had thus far never quite managed to achieve. This time would be different, one way or another.

Given Revna's previous work on the crew she had a better idea of which buttons to push and which directions to steer them all in, mentally speaking, in order to give them a better chance of succeeding. This one needed to be calmed in order to settle into a rhythm so that she could actually do her work without frantic typing, that one needed to focus on only the most pressing matters at first then work his way down to the rest of the reports, the other one needed to quit stalling and calibrate as soon as possible. A delicate balancing act of suggestion and assertion.

One that would hopefully bear fruit as the simulation began in earnest. The ship weaved through the lines of fire, not quite as smoothly as he would have preferred but far more gracefully than the crew had ever performed before, as it soon began returning fire. The guns didn't overheat nor did they miss their targets outright, even if the switching between buoys was a few seconds longer than ideal. Within moments half of the buoys were gone and the ship was arcing back around for a second pass on the rest of them.

Darth Strosius remained silent and unresponsive aside from a subtle glance towards Revna and an almost imperceptible nod of approval. When the last buoy had been destroyed and the simulated lines of fire only showed what would have been glancing blows if it were real combat, the mood on the bridge morphed from tense silence into stunned awe. Some of them couldn't believe that they had actually managed it, others were just relieved that their tasks were done and that the stress was off their hands. A few even briefly broke out into congratulations of one another before a quick glance towards the High Priest reminded them that they were still being watched.

Eventually all eyes would land on the pair of Sith in a hopeful trepidation that they had performed well enough this time. He allowed a few moments of tense silence to pass before he straightened his shoulders and addressed the commanding officer. "It seems as though you and your crew have indeed learned your lesson, Captain." The relief and excitement that bloomed across the faces of the crew was priceless. "Bring us back to port and I shall have the details of your next assignment finalized. Congratulations on graduating."

As the crew swiftly set about bringing the vessel back to the station, amidst their own barely contained fits of glee, the masked man idly rested a hand on Revna's shoulder. 'This is what it is all for, my Disciple.' He spoke without opening his mouth. 'Uplifting those around you with the blessings that they do not possess. That is the purpose of Battle Meditation. That is what you should learn and keep close to your heart above all else in regards to that skill and your new role. Very good work indeed.'

Revna observed through the eyes of the Force as the crew fell into the simulation; she could feel their tension, their anxieties - the weight of the expectations upon them, and she felt it keenly too, for there was a heavy expectation upon her as well. Her Master didn’t intrude upon what she was doing, but she knew that didn’t mean he wasn’t watching and paying attention to every little thing she was doing. This was as much a test for her as it was for the ship’s crew around her.

The Disciple continued to pour encouragement into the energy that surrounded them all, a sense of duty and conviction, and she fanned the flames of their courage and their faith where she could. She wanted them to take strength and inspiration from the presence of the Sith there with them, not feel fear and trepidation from their presence. Especially the presence of their High Priest.

In the end, it seemed that her work and efforts had paid off. She felt the ripple of awe as the simulation came to its end and the crew collectively realized that they had accomplished something they had never done before. There was relief, elation, even excitement - and Revna drank it all in like a thirsty man at a desert oasis. A small smile tugged at her lips and unconsciously she seemed to stand a little straighter. But still, she stayed within the meditation; her Master hadn’t told her that the test had come to its conclusion, and until he did so she would remain on alert and ready.

…Though she did hope it was near its conclusion, she was feeling the tugs of exhaustion on her awareness already; this had been far more involved and energy consuming than she imagined it would be, and she had gone into this already knowing that it would be a challenge.

Another bloom of relief and excitement expanded across the collective consciousness of the crew, and Revna mused that Darth Strosius must have said something to them to elicit such a response, and a moment later she felt a weight upon her shoulder as his voice filtered through and into her mind, and she couldn’t help the wider smile that spread across her face with his words.

-Thank you, my Lord- came her mental reply back to him, and she felt a thrill of pride at hearing him say that she had done very good in his sights. That made all the exhaustion she felt worth it.

Sensing that the lesson was over, Revna withdrew completely from her meditative mindset and opened her eyes, blinking back the slight glare of the lights that greeted her vision, before she took a more careful look at the crew around them. She’d seen them through the eyes of the Force, seen into their minds a bit - seen their hidden thoughts and emotions, and now she wanted to actually see them in the flesh. It helped to further connect her to them. They were as much her people, as they were her Master’s.

I suppose it’s back to port now?” She asked, speaking aloud this time but in a lower tone of voice as she glanced at Strosius. Damn, she was so tired now. ...Do you have any directives or orders for me once we return, High Priest?

Part of her hoped he would allow her to rest for a bit, especially after dealing with the effects of the drug after her minor surgery and then having to dig deep in order to pull the crew through to their victory - but she could push that need aside for now if he required her services elsewhere. She was always eager to serve, and she knew that he was well aware of that.

"Oh yes." Darth Strosius spoke low in turn, allowing the crew to excitedly chatter in hushed tones as the ship veered back towards the station and the tension in their shoulders finally started to diminish. Gradually of course, they were still being watched after all. "There's lots of work to be done now. A little advancement ceremony, assignments to consider, uniforms to distribute, a lot of bureaucratic steps that I will need to fill out as I took it upon myself to oversee this group personally."

These were all things that he had done before and would have little issue accomplishing of course, most especially given that he had come up with half of it and reinvented the rest, but it was still a chore. A good few hours had already been set aside to see it through but unfortunately the ceremony would have to wait a few days while everything was finalized. Still, nothing that he hadn't dealt with plenty of times before now. Even if they were no less a headache.

"One of these days I'll introduce you to the mire that is the unloved trail of data running behind all of our operations and personnel, but I will spare you from it this day." Revna's reading comprehension would be put to its limits then. It would be among her last great tests before she could truly fill her role as he desired her to, and it would be one of her most daunting. "But your only order for the rest of the day is to find somewhere comfortable and rest. Between the operation and this lesson you're running on fumes I'm sure."

He could sense the fatigue in her, mostly in the physical sense, and he knew well enough that she would continue pushing herself if he let her. Exhaustion would claim her not long after the last of the meditative focus and adrenaline had worn off and he'd rather not have her passing out in front of her siblings in arms. They'd fret far too much over such a simple matter and he didn't have the energy himself to assuage their concerns today. "And if I don't find you resting then I'll confine you to your quarters for the rest of the week."

He found himself having to threaten that more and more with her as of late. With any luck it was just a flare of Revna's own stubborn and determined nature that could be smoothed out as she adjusted to her new duties. The ship soon docked with the station once more and Darth Strosius led the way off the bridge, keeping a gentle but firm hand on her shoulder in order to guide her back into the station without any additional fuss. She might have been tempted to celebrate with the crew otherwise, not an unwelcome activity but one that she wouldn't have the energy for.

Revna couldn’t help the tired half smirk that crossed her face upon hearing Strosius tell her that he would spare her from the horrors that was datawork that she knew came with these sorts of situations. Thankfully, she hadn’t needed to deal with such things yet…but she knew the time was coming when she would have to sit somewhere and devote hours of her day to the tedious work that her Master now faced.

Oh thank you for your gracious mercy on me to spare me from such a thing.” she drawled, her playful spirit coming through in her response back to him on the topic, before he directed that she was to find a place to rest and recuperate, following up that order with a threat - that if he caught her doing otherwise, then she would be confined to her quarters. Or, in other words: grounded.

Revna couldn’t hold back her snort of amusement to that threat. It wasn’t that she didn’t believe he’d follow through with it, she knew he would, it was just the fact that he knew her well enough that a threat was needed in order to convince her to comply and actually get the rest she needed.

She often threw herself so wholeheartedly into her duties that the Sith Lord had to force her to stop and take breaks. It was for her own good, really. He didn’t need her running herself into the ground, and it warmed her to know that he always seemed to be looking out for her. She knew that any other master would have put her straight to work - not caring on how tired or exhausted she was.

But still, she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be a brat. She was never too tired for that.

You may certainly try, Master.” Revna said with her devious little smirk as the ship they were in came back into port and docked. Under most other circumstances, she would have been able to walk off of the ship unaccompanied, but this time was to be different it would seem as she felt the weight of her Master’s hand upon her shoulder, his grip gentle but firm as he guided them from the vessel. Another smirk tugged at her lips; yes, he indeed knew her well enough to know that she just might try to sneak off and spend some time with her victorious brothers and sisters. It was a tempting thought, but truthfully she was just too exhausted to think of little else than sleep at the moment - so she simply went along with her High Priest and together they walked back into the station.

Don’t worry; I’m not going to be sneaking out to go partying, as much as I’d like to. I’m frankly too tired for that.” Revna said with a soft chuckle as she glanced over at him briefly, watching the lights glint off his mask’s visor as they walked onward.

It was yet another moment where she realized that she didn’t just view him as her Master, or her High Priest; he had become more of a father figure to her in their time together - and she was simply too afraid to tell him the truth of the matter.

Perhaps, if she had known what was coming for the two of them in the near future, she might have had the courage to tell Strosius the truth. But she kept that secret close to her heart, as she always did.
