Private Hardcoded Into Me

Location: Echelon Prime

As soon as Saul stepped on the planet, he could smell the familar putrid scent of factories and sadness that was usually found on these mega city worlds. It felt like home for him, a home he wanted to escape and never come back too. But like most people that traveled to this one-forserken planet, he needed cyberware to repair his eyes, legs and arms as well as less... well known defense programs to install in Liin's building so something like that leak that happened in her lab didn't happen again. And if there was anywhere where he could find it, it was on this one outlaw planet all the way across the galaxy.

And so Saul made his way into the night markets, flipping through circuit boards in various cardboard boxs, trying to find the right parts to make sure no one could access the Survilence System like they did. It was going to be hard to spot anything worth the price. Who knows though, maybe he would find something or someone worth his interest.

Allie sat astride her speeder, Baby Blue, as though mounted upon a tame predator patiently tolerating the noise of the city. The machine hummed beneath her, its low vibration syncing with the pulse of Echelon Prime's nocturnal sprawl. Neon sigils bled into the slick streets, and the citizens, laughing, bargaining, stumbling moved in erratic tides that felt less like celebration and more like ritualized distraction. Above it all stalked the SecNet guards, their armor catching the light like predatory eyes, pausing at random to harass passersby with the bored cruelty of enforcers who had long forgotten what they were meant to protect.

Allie watched it unfold with practiced detachment, chin resting on her knuckles, the whole spectacle reminding her of a reef at night; colorful, alive, and teeming with unseen teeth.

Her gaze drifted, sharp and sudden, as it snagged on a single figure moving against the flow. Someone new. She could tell by the way they hesitated, by how their eyes lingered too long on signs and faces, as if searching for meaning where only habit ruled. A faint smile tugged at her lips, equal parts amusement and appraisal. Fresh arrivals always carried that look, like pilgrims who hadn't yet learned what gods truly ruled this place.

Allie straightened slightly on Baby Blue, mock curiosity blooming as she tracked their path through the crowd. In Echelon Prime, newcomers were never just visitors; they were questions waiting to be answered, and sometimes, if the night was feeling generous, offerings to something vast and watching just beyond the veil of the city's electric glow.

Allie eased Baby Blue forward just enough to be heard, the speeder's hum cutting a thin line through the din of the night market. She didn't look at the newcomer at first; her eyes remained on the shifting crowd, on the vendors whose smiles were too wide and too well-practiced. "Careful around these stalls," she said at last, her voice casual but edged with knowing. "They're more predator than entrepreneur. Half of them can smell unfamiliar credits the way deep-sea things smell blood."

Neon light washed across her face as she finally turned, regarding the stranger with a glance that weighed more than it welcomed. "Blink too long, hesitate once, and they'll decide what you're worth for you."

She let the words settle, listening to the distant bark of a SecNet patrol and the murmured bargains unraveling into quiet regrets. Then she tilted her head, curiosity sharpening into focus. "So," Allie continued, a faint, crooked smile ghosting across her lips, "what brings you to the Prime?" The question carried more weight than its simplicity suggested, as though Echelon Prime itself leaned closer to hear the answer. In a city that devoured reasons as readily as it did people, motives mattered; and the wrong one had a way of echoing far longer than the speaker ever intended.

With his attire and dark sunglasses covering his neon artifical eyes, the young Saul didn't think he stood out that much in this environment. And on a world of billions if not trillons, he thought no one would care enough to pick him out. Guess he was wrong.

Saul was too focused on looking at the various motherboards on display in one of the booths, quietly figuring out the specs for himself as he tried to figure out what he needed to hear the speeders hum as the machine stopped beside him, something he was kicking himself for. Usually he was good about having spacial awareness but if this young women had tried a drive by, he would have been dead where he stood. Thankfully, she only had wanted to see the new fish out of water that had been dumped into this big pool.

The young bionic wonder couldn't help but chuckle as this fellow punk warned him about the dangers of these sellers. "Yeah... Why do you think I'm window browsing? If I'm going to get taken advantage of, I might as well get the thing I want. Even if I'm paying an arm and a leg for it. Its not like he hadn't dealt with dealers like these before or would so again, he had to keep his legs and arms together after all.

When she asked what he was doing on this one forsaken world, he gave her the honest answer. "My home camera system got hacked awhile ago. Figured I would try to get some new hardware and defense programs. Besides, it was my excuse to come to Programmer's Paradise. I don't know if I would have otherwise. I'm Saul by the way." His pointing at the C-Sec guards above told her one of the reasons why. Echelon wasn't exactly a paradise world after all. Still if you wanted the best computer equipment, you came here. And now this Punk Girl gave him another reason to stay alittle while.

As he waited for this Speeder Chick to introduced herself, he causually looked her and her bike over. She clearly knew her way around a wrench if she had built something like that custom. The bike's build quality was something he could respect. Now he just had to wait to see if he had just managed to piss this girl off in some unthinkable way.

Allie laughed, the sound light and careless on the surface, yet edged with something that didn't quite belong to the moment. "Everything and almost everyone on Prime gets hacked," she said, spreading her hands as if this were a simple law of nature rather than a warning. "That's what happens when a place builds itself out of greed and glowing circuits."

The laughter faded too quickly, swallowed by the vast, murmuring presence of the city, which seemed to listen with innumerable unseen ears. For an instant, the lights overhead flickered, and it felt as though the world itself had flinched.

Her gaze drifted upward, settling on the SecNet guards looming above on their patrol gantry, armor catching the glow like the shells of deep-sea creatures. "Yeah," she added dryly, nodding in their direction, "the local party crashers." There was no fear in her voice, only familiarity, as if these armed sentinels were merely another unpleasant weather pattern endemic to Echelon Prime.

She tipped her head slightly, a half-smile playing at her lips.
"Name's Allie."

The market around them writhed and breathed, vendors calling out in voices that felt rehearsed by something older than commerce. Allie gestured toward the stalls, where sharp-eyed figures watched with the hunger of scavengers circling a wounded thing. "If you're looking for top-quality technology," she said, her tone sharpening, "you won't find it among these predators."

Her lips curved again, apologetic but unapologetic. "Sorry...entrepreneurs."

Well, he hadn't pissed her off and gotten shot. That was a good first step in this relationship. His body managed to relax as he took a breath. "What else would I expect from the hacker capital..." When you are living like this, you would do anything to get to step up, to get into a bigger cube, to feel more important in your little life. The stars beckoned him because he wanted to get out of that cycle. Now he was back in a part of the rat race, if only for a little while.

Standing up near her bike with touching it (if he messed up that paint job somehow, he knew his ass was gonna get beat), he followed her case, saying almost to himself as to her. "Well, at least they aren't peeing on us..." If he were up there, he couldn't say he wouldn't be tempted. The Cyborg didn't seem afraid of them either, knowing he could probably take one down if he needed to. It wasn't as if he didn't have military training, and these mall cops didn't just get set out with a scary look and told "Go have fun". And if they faced off, they wouldn't be having any fun.

With his easy smile, Saul said, "Well its a pleasure to meet you, Allie, shatter of guitars on skulls. And if this is your attempt to trap someone new in a dark dungeon somewhere with shiny motherboards, just know I might be tempted." Man, was he on fire today, or was he on fire? Still, he managed to swallow the chuckles coming back up his throat. "But if you would be willing to help me out, I would be grateful." The sooner they got out of the street, the less he needed to avoid bumping into the walking masses flowing around them in this glowing city that never sleeps.
