SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
  • Amphibious Transport: Gwelds are equally at home on land or in crawling on seabeds and the floors of other bodies of waters.
  • Versatile Armament: Gwelds have a variety of weapons that allow it to fighter underwater, on land, or to attack aerial targets.
Weaknesses:
  • Weak Armament: While its armament is versatile, it is also quite weak. Gwelds typically cannot take on equal sized or larger vehicles in prolonged combat.
  • Tracked Vehicle: As a tracked vehicle, Gwelds cannot negotiate over many terrain obstacles that most repulsorlift-based vehicles can simply hover over. They are also not typically faster than many repulsorlift vehicles.
Description: The Gweld is a smaller, tracked CAV designed to operate both on land and in water in a manner similar to the older Aquadon CAV. Essentially, the base Gweld is a typical, tracked infantry fighting vehicle adapted to crawl underwater. These adaptations include a fully sealed hull, an internal Gravitation field disruptor (to alter buoyancy), and an underwater sensor suite consisting of a Subsonic Scanner and Sonar Mapper. With these adaptations, Gwelds become adept littoral combatants, easily transitioning from combat in shallow seas to dry land. Most Gwelds see use as patrol vehicles, albeit they are also sometimes used for the rare amphibious assault. In this role, they typically use their weapons to provide covering fire while a squad of troops disembark. Because they are not particularly powerful combatants, especially against most dedicated land vehicles, they then typically withdraw to the safety of the water. While they are not particularly spectacular combatants with lackluster performance and relatively weak weapons, their versatile weapons and ability to seemlessly transition between land and water combatant can make them invaluable.
