Gwaii Cat? Oh Yes, Please!!

Kay breathed a small sigh of relief. At least Mrs. Nesbitt was doing her job. "We came to stop the poachers. So little is known about these creatures. It isn't fair that they are hunted for their furs."

She approached one of the cages. It was locked. "Mrs. Nesbitt, could you help me please?" Her astromech droid rolled over to her, and cut through the lock with a mini blow torch. The green Gwaii cat inside had moved clear out of the way, favouring an injured leg. Once it was free, Kay gave it some space. She wasn't sure how well the cat could understand her. "You're free. I can help your leg before you go home, if you'd like..."

The Gwaii cat gingerly hopped out of the cage and sat down in front of her, looking to Kay at first with his big green eyes and then to Aldera who seemed to know how to communicate.

Aldy's companion approached her brother, then, touching foreheads with him, began to burble. The young male made a couple of inquisitive chirps, then the tension drained out of his posture when his sister mewed affirmatively.

<"This nice lady,"> Aldy yipped, nodding toward Kay, <"can help you ... and the others.">

The male began caterwauling, interspersed with growls and hisses, as he limped to the cage where his blue litter mate was imprisoned.

Aldy nodded several times as the male spoke.

"He thanks you for your kind offer of help," she said to Kay, "and requests that you free the others. He explained that he and his litter mates had just left home and were captured like -- and this is his phrasing -- 'a bunch of mewlings'. He is most appreciative of the rescue that you and your friend enacted, especially since those poachers would probably have gone after their mother next."

Looking at the two of them as Matsu went to work on freeing the cats it wasn't something needing to be discussed. Kay was the more diplomatic one of the group who could easily make the offers as needed. This woman was showing no hostile intentions at the moment and the force could warn them should she try to go about stabbing themin the backs. For now they could have a little faith and good will. Plus these cats seemed to be able to speak and judge character of a person on instinct as it were before she was needed. "They should be fine, we can see about observing one or two of them maybe with one of the small drones from Satochi."

Aldy's companion and her brother approached their blue-furred litter mate after its release, and the trio purred and head-bonked and washed one another with glee, each taking their turn at rubbing against the calves of Aldy, Kay, and Matsu, then sitting on their haunches and looking up at their rescuers with big, bright eyes.

The other creatures, more wary after their imprisonment, disappeared into the jungle without ceremony or thanks.

<"Once you get patched-up,"> Aldy chittered to the Gwaii Cats, <"you'll be able to be on your way.">

The young cats moved not a muscle, but continued to regard the Humans.

What if they want to stay with us? What if they swear a Life Debt to us, like the Wookiees of Kashyyyk have been known to do?

Aldy let out a long, forlorn sigh.

4-D7 isn't going to let me live this down, is he?

Aldy let out a longer, more forlorn sigh.

Kay nodded to Matsu. Keeping an eye on the poachers while she worked was a good idea. And at least she was allowed to heal the poor creature. It had been a little while since she had to use this ability. She used to be quite good at it. The last time she used it, it was in healing herself after some bounty hunters caught her and nearly had her bleed out. This time it should be easier.

Kay sat down in front of the green Gwaii Cat and held out her hand for it's injured paw. She closed her eyes and tapped into the Force, picturing the fractured bone and torn muscles in her mind. She repaired them slowly so that it wouldn't hurt, easing the swelling down gently as she repaired the tissue and bone, bit by bit. The whole process took about fifteen minutes and when she was done, Kay opened her eyes and released the Gwaii Cat's paw.

"There...How's that?"

The green male raised the once-injured limb as if it to test it, then chittered eagerly as he found that he had full range of motion again.

His sister rubbed noses with him and purred gently.

The blue litter mate backed into the cage apprehensively and cringed in a corner, unsure of what was going on.

"Nicely done, [member="Lady Kay"]," Aldy said, scratching the green Gwaii Cats behind the ears and then moving to coax the blue one out of the cage.

Matsu finished up as she was looking at the strange creature and sitting down with her attention on it, her senses in the force on the area around hem and raised an eyebrow. "Well you are certainly cute.... Kind of like a ropo without all of the fluff... and tripping over your own tongue." THat was in many ways a plus as aside from general cuteness those fluffballs had no real advantages to having around. Her eyes remaining on him while she sat there letting the sounds of the world around her drift in.

Kay smiled a little as her healing had worked. She was a bit out of practice, but that's what happens when you spend a lot of time hiding your abilities instead of using them. The little blue Gwaii Cat made her a little sad at how nervous he was.

"It's all right. You can just come out when you're ready. No one will hurt you..." She got to her feet and stepped back from the cage, hoping the other two ladies will do the same. Some creatures are more comfortable with space, especially when scared.

Aldera stepped back as requested.

Then, as if echoing [member="Lady Kay"]'s words, the green female chirped and chittered to her litter mate.

Slowly, the little blue Gwaii Cat dragged itself to the front of the cage, then looked around nervously.

The green female loped over to her litter mate and rubbed noses, then cheeks, then burbled in a soothing tone.

The blue Gwaii Cat looked up at Kay in anxious anticipation.

Matsu stayed there with her eyes on the creature in front of her before she focused. Relaxing and sending what soothing force energies she could out to radiate off of herself. One hand out producing some of the small food cubes they had for rations in place of the tactical cans of food. Slowly the jedi master was feeling the others around ad everything seemed calm and ready for anything.

Kay offered a small smile to the blue Gwaii Cat. She kept her voice quiet and her movements slow as she held out her hand for his paw. "It's alright. This won't hurt. I promise..."

Gingerly the Gwaii Cat placed his paw in her hand. She took it and closed her eyes, tapping into the Force again to heal the bruised bones and lacerations. Leg hold traps were cruel things. All traps were. When she was finished Kay let go of his paw and smiled again, being sure to not show her teeth as she didn't want to appear aggressive. "There you are. Now you are free to roam."

Both male Gwaii Cats sat on their haunches and looked back and forth at [member="Lady Kay"] and [member="Matsu Ike"], chirping to each other and to the women who had helped them.

The green female burbled at her brothers, but stayed close to Aldy.

"Thank-you for helping these younglings," Aldy said to the other women. "And you, too," she said, smiling at Mrs. Nesbitt.

"I have to say that your abilities are quite remarkable. It was quite fortuitous that you were here when you were needed most."

The males continued to chirp, and the female began to purr loudly.

"Mew mew," she said to those who had helped her brothers.

She was still looking at the one as it seeed to warm to her finally. Grzing her hand but still timid for the level of comfort before she heard the others and smiled. "THis has been quite an experience." She had rather enjoyed it and doing some good deed like helping these small creatures was... welcoming. Her attention went to them though while she could do a few things when the small one touched her hand as she turned it over and let its cpaws be on her forearm. Rising up to look at the other two while she was moving slowly. There was a smile on her face while she could feel the heartbeat. "This has been rather fun, I forgot what it was like to do something easy."

"I heartily concur," Aldy said to the woman playing with the blue Gwaii Cat. "Helping these creatures was a most unexpected pleasure. And, of course, no giant rolling boulders, poisonous dart traps, rides across a canyon as a plank bridge is cut out from under you, or any of the other hazards of ... field work!"

Aldy shone a lopsided grin at the other women.

[Meanwhile, while everyone else's attention was diverted, the very independent green female crawled into Aldy's leather satchel and, sticking her head out from beneath the flap, cooed! ]

Kay gave a small smile at the mention of her abilities. "I try to keep the use of such abilities to a minimum. But they needed a quick recovery if they are to be free."

She bowed her head to the green Gwaii Cat that she helped and then slowly got to her feet, not noticing that one had climbed into Aldera's satchel. The three poachers were still unconscious and still very much tied up. Good. Kay looked to Mrs. Nesbitt. "Please send a message to the authorities and let them know where to find these scumbags. In the meantime we should head back before James starts to worry about us. I don't need him to send out for a search party again." Because of her depression over losing her job and offices, her adopted brother had been keeping a close eye on her. At times it was annoying, but at other times she was glad to know that he cared so much.

Kay smiled a little to the two ladies and then started heading back to the ship she came in. It was a few kilometres away, so there was a bit of a journey ahead of her. Mrs. Nesbitt rolled along after her. Yet when she heard footsteps beside her she figured that it was Matsu. One look though told her that she was wrong. The green Gwaii Cat had decided to walk with her. Maybe he was escorting her out of his territory? She wasn't quite sure....

Matsu listened to the new woman about her adventuring and there was a whole lot of fun you could see in things. The jedi master was petting gentle long strokes on the cats head and back giving her a small look. "NOw you are looking quite happy. We'll get you some food on the ship." She had plenty of things to work with and the ropos might like it... hopefully te food would be the same for both so they can share or at least not require a lot of new things. "Well everything looks handled here, so who is up forsome relaxation? I know I am going to like being back on the botany bay."

"That sounds delightful!" Aldy said to [member="Matsu Ike"]

Aldy smiled to [member="Lady Kay"] as the other woman stood up and began to leave the camp, followed by the green male.

Looking around for her female companion, Aldy chuckled when she stuck her head out of the satchel bag and cooed.

Aldy switched on her commlink.

"Crisis averted, 4-D7. I'm going to be away for a bit, but don't worry. Keep monitoring things, but you can stand down from red alert."

"Statement: As you desire, Mistress."

"Oh ... by the way, we're going to have a ... guest ... when I return."

"Exclamation: My circuits are abuzz with anticipation, Mistress!"

Kay overheard Matsu behind her. "I must go to my brother so that he knows that I'm okay. Just sending him a message doesn't work right now. He worries too much. But I'll send you word when I am free." The Gwaii Cat still walked beside her. She looked down to him and he seemed to look as sullen as she felt. It was almost as though he was connected to her feelings. Very strange. She quickened her pace and the cat did too. It was very odd. But certainly not unwelcome.

Once she got to her ship, she started up the ramp and then stopped, letting Mrs. Nesbitt roll past her. Kay looked down to the Gwaii cat that was partway up the ramp himself. "Are you coming with me?" The cat made a funny little chirping noise, then carried on up the ramp. She raised a brow as she watched him go and then shrugged her shoulders. Guess so.

Kay stepped into her ship and had Mrs. Nesbitt prepare it for take off. Already there was a message waiting for her from James. There was a mission for her and a paying one at that. Good. It will help keep her mind off of things.
