That vague mindset was what brought many of the ancient world into competition. Created in the island nations as a means to fight and prevent warfare among tribes. Ancient wooden cannons were made that allowed one to hold water within and then using a plunger expel it with force enough. The competition evolved from something one of the emperors within the islands created to give his warriors an outlet for their aggression but that wouldn't diminish his forces. While others would have fights to the death he instead used it as a means to keep his strongest fighters alive and determine who would lead raiding parties. Over dozens of centuries the competition evolved into a sport played in the islands and expanded to the beaches of the mainland as something anyone could compete in.
Small variation come from different areas of the islands, with the dissolution of the emperors at the time small empire each island clan used the competition but gave it their own spin. Centuries later a few evolved into more refined and other died out as they were conquered by the other islands and later united across Atrisia. The variation still being played until recently when they were added to the mix of an official version created by the emperor. As a better means to unite the newest version borrows elements from all of the others such are bracket style, use of hazards and different designs to weaponry so that teams can be outfitted to be better units. Prize pools and even loadouts for some of the other equipment like water turrets that can be deployed in the shallows or a hydro jump jet.
With the Jishi era and quality of life improving across the Commonwealth the ability for competitions to become a regular thing have occured. Now competitors from across the planet and system in some cases come for the large credit pool but there is also the added prizes and rewards from corporate sponsors on Atrisia who like getting involved. Schools have been created to teach the finer points of competition and how to play to the watching crowd. As a major tourist attraction it is one of the better things as it is in the height of the summer seasons when the sport is given the most coverage and competition becomes fierce.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Fairly new, the collection of information has only recently been released to the people in a record form that is accessed. It has been known but collecting information about the various expansions, extensions and versions of it hasn't been done as much. Io sought to unite the competitive nature of Atrisians with the skills and information.
