Description: The GU-20 fighter is the standard starfighter of The Primeval fleet. A well-rounded and balanced craft, the GU-20's multirole capabilities make it an excellent support starfighter for escorting bombers and dogfighting similar craft. Additionally they pack enough punch to tackle light freighters and corvettes. Much like other light craft in the fleet, the GU-20 relies on tactical data to be delivered from its carrier and thus is less effective without it.
Development Thread: N/A
Intent: To create a fighter for The Primeval. We never really had one.

While your numbers are all good, I have to question your strengths and weaknesses.

To start, you have an average offense, above-average defense, and average speed/maneuverability. You have off-set this only by a lack of a hyperdrive and a need to remain in contact with the carrier ship. The latter negates most of the former's significance as they'll always be carried into battle and most engagements will see the fighters recovered before the carrier jumps away from battle.

That being said, when you say that the fighter receives much of its tactical data from the carrier and is less effective without it, what exactly do you mean? This vague statement could be the difference between additional work needing to be done and a pending approval stamp. I'd like a little more detail put in as to how the fighter's combat performance is affected if its datafeed is cut off.

Pretty much, they have no sensory data input. So whilst they can communicate with each other and target enemy ships; they have no idea what formations their opponents are in except what they can see. No tracking. So, instead they have to rely on audio feedback from the carrier to properly coordinate attacks. So a few things might cripple this:

  • Jamming.
  • Destruction of the carrier.
  • Being out of range.
So just imagine that there's a few officers aboard the ship communicating between their squadrons, much like on an aircraft carrier IRL.
