Greatly Exaggerated

"Visible is the key word there and I tend to agree. A temple in ruins is a sign of hope as much as a overbearing ziggurat is of fear and control," he said with a slow nod of his head. Demeanour shifted once again to cautious and thoughtful. "I've not heard of the Foundation Trust, no." On this occasion he was entirely honest, but a carefully controlled slip in his expression would perhaps leave a lingering doubt.

There was a pause as he considered exactly what to reveal. "Social engineering is more science that art form. One we've taken an interest in." That was a lie. They've been working on their social engineering programmes for decades now. When the Techno Union had recently been conducting expansions, Spynet had been able to put a figure to what every political action meant. The right initial conditions, variables and the monumental computing power they had to hand helped them work out the right people to discredit, the stories to push, the people they needed to control.

Assassinations and on the ground operations were so...crude. But did his hands ever urge so much to hold the hilt of a blade and do some dirty work himself for a change.

"The One Sith have always had the funds to look after their facilities, nationalise them if necessary. I'm assuming you feel you have the influence to deliver a second blow once the right conditions have been met to truly damage their industry?"

By this point, Ajira had opted to ignore the man's demeanour entirely, at least in terms of truth and lies. She took note on another level, though: he was either projecting what he wanted her to think he felt, or he was all over the emotional map to keep her guessing, distracted. Either possibility suggested a taste for games. Frankly, that reminded her of Velok.

Velok, who'd been dead for years, who'd certainly known Transfer Essence, and who'd made a career out of committing to long cons.

"So far as I understand it, the Foundation Trust is your average quasi-benevolent illuminati. They believe that the Dark Age may recur, and their aim is to increase galactic resilience. They sponsor libraries, gene banks, and so forth -- and that's about as far as I could get. My resources aren't what they were. I only know about it via my association with Connory and his secret lover. Plenty of secrets there, to be sure. One firm truth, though, is that he attempted suicide a few years back after Sith tortured and maimed that lover. None of that is a matter of public or private record. And Connory is a major voice in the trust that controls eighty-five percent of the corporation that owns all the One Sith shipbuilding facilities. Suffice it to say, when the moment's right, I have no doubt that the One Sith shipyards will experience ongoing technical difficulties."
