  • Model: Gravastar+ Reactor
  • Affiliation: Aurora Industries
  • Modularity: None
  • Production: Limited
  • Material: Quadanium Steel, Reinforced Glasteel, Siaber Crystal, Reinforced Circuits and Electronics
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Provides an immense amount of power for a ship to draw on to power its systems
DETAILED SPECIAL FEATURES

The Gravastar+ Reactor is designed to make use of the Siaber Crystals developed by Aurora Industries to give capital ships installed with it an immense amount of power to draw upon, more so than standard reactors

Strengths:
  • Provides an immense amount of energy compared to standard reactors used in capital starships
  • Excess energy not being used to power the ship is diverted to eight storage capacitors that can be utilized to increase the energy being sent to specific systems such as weapons, shields, engines, etc.
  • Far stabler than hypermatter or anti-matter so even if the reactor is breached, as long as the crystal remains intact, the reactor will keep working
  • Can be linked together to other Gravastar+ Reactors to form a network for larger ships
Weaknesses :
  • Cannot be installed on normal ships, must be initially designed with the reactor in mind otherwise the reactor is liable to fry every system in a ship
  • If the crystal at the heart of the reactor breaks, the ship will almost certainly be disintegrated almost immediately
  • If the reactors are linked, any damage to one in the link will cause a chain reaction down the line of reactors
  • Systems that use the overclocking feature of the capacitors can be liable to overheating and internal damage if done too much
DESCRIPTION

As a first proof of concept for Aurora's Siaber Crystal technology, and to develop a brand new power source for larger ships, the company began development of the Gravastar+ Reactor at their facility on Mygeeto. The goal of the project was to develop a much stabler main power reactor for capital ships to make use of, given the nature of hypermatter and anti-matter reactors being temperamental at best. The reactor itself makes use of a Siaber Crystal roughly the size of a plasteel container, formed by fusing various kyber crystals together, where a focusing beam is passed through the crystal to trigger the reaction needed to produce the enormous amounts of energy it creates.

The Gravastar+ creates so much excess energy that it has to constantly shift that excess power to eight storage capacitors to make sure the overload doesn't fry the ship's systems. These capacitors can be tied into a ship's other systems to provide those systems some extra power to draw on, whether it be shields, weapons, or engines. The Gravastar+ can also be linked together with other Gravastar+ reactors to create a chain of energy to draw upon, eliminating the need for such obvious extensions of a ship as the bulge on a Star Destroyer, as the reactors are not nearly as large.

However, if one of the reactors is destroyed, and it is chained with others, a chain reaction will occur along each reactor. Another problem that could potentially occur is if the crystal at the heart of the reactor breaks, it is likely that part of the ship and all of the surrounding parts, will be disintegrated. Systems that utilize the extra stored energy capacitors can also be liable to overheating and internal damage if that overclocking feature is used too often. The other caveat for the system is cannot be retroactively added to any existing ships, given the unique nature of technology. Every ship that makes use of the Gravastar+ must be built and designed with these reactors in mind.
