STANDARD FEATURES

The Gravastar-class comes fully equipped with the whole standard array of shields, systems and components that are normally associated with vessels of this size and class.

ADVANCED SYSTEMS

STRENGTHS

Mass Detention: The Gravastar-class possesses a pair of immensely powerful gravity well projectors that can produce a very large interdiction field.
Greased Lightning: Very fast, highly maneuverable, this vessel excels at rapid deployment and keeping pace to keep the opposing side locked down.
Mobile Bulwark: Due to being a natural target, the Gravistar features very strong hull plating and redundant shield generators to keep it safe.

WEAKNESSES

Outgunned: The Gravastar-class is relatively lightly armed for a frigate. Its primary weapons are also built for range, making them less effective in close quarter engagements.
Flying Solo: With all potential hangar space afforded to the power generators required, this frigate is instead heavily dependent on support vessels to compensate for its shortcomings.

DESCRIPTION

Assembled in SR&L’s Belt of Arah shipyards, the Gravastar-class Interdiction Frigate is the first new vessel to be produced by the company in several years. Given SR&L’s previous reluctance to enter the military vessel market, the decision to kick off a new era in the wake of the dissolution of its partnership with Kuat Drive Yards, with a capital ship no less, is perhaps a statement in just how amicable the two firms seem to have parted.
Built on an iconic blockade runner style frame, the line notably possesses six high performance twin ion engines at the rear of the vessel. These grant it an impressive top speed and overall maneuverability not commonly associated with a frigate - certainly not a dedicated interdiction vessel - and (hopefully) allow it to keep one step ahead of larger vessels. A necessity given the obvious target it paints on itself.
That is not to say the vessel can’t hold its own, however. While the railguns are perhaps best suited to serving in a support role than direct combat, the Gravastar-class is certainly no fragile china doll thanks to the heavy ablative plating and redundant shields.
The true strength of the vessel lies in the middle, however. Powered by a set of dedicated Isotope-5 power generators, the Gravastar-class’ twin gravity well projectors are considered inordinately powerful for a vessel of this size, capable of generating a field even larger than the design leads initially anticipated. Given that these projectors require very little ‘spooling up’ time, when coupled with the advantage of the blockade runner engines, the Gravastar-class is very effective at locking down a sizable area in very short order.
