- Can Enter Atmosphere and Land
- Full luxury crew quarters.
- Rare starships whose powerplant creates fisson by breaking down Water Molecules, effectively making it non reliant on Hypermatter or Solar Energy (Can still take in Hypermatter in small amounts as an emergency.)
- Fast and agile
- Shields built to recharge incredibly fast due to extra capacitors recycling heat waste
- Sturdy, industrial parts made mostly from Quadanium steel
- High quality sensors
- Vast cargo storage
- IT RUNS ON STEAM!: The powerplant of the vessel, specially constructed for this specific design, combines a number of technologies, such as that from the 2a Fission Engine, Hydro-reclamation Processor, Portable Vaporator, and Molecular Furnace to create a form of cheap power, by entering an atmosphere with a lot of moisture, and slowly collecting it, heating it to a steam state while molecular furnace tech breaks the water down in this high pressure excited state and converts it into the 'clean' burning radioactive materials used to power the fission engine portion of the power plant. The waste produced from this is less than that produced by firing the average blaster bolt, enabling it to make jumps into hyperspace, perform all flight maneuvers, and maintain shields and main system functions if engaged. Can also hold a limited emergency amount of Hypermatter, about one weeks worth for minimal ship functions
- Fast: A fast and agile vessel, with a good chance of evading pursuers and effecting escape
- Quick Charge: Its shields recharge three times faster than most other shield designs due to extra capacitors capturing waste heat from everywhere on the ship in a high efficiency conversion process
- Quality: Its computer systems were custom built for the design, with sensor range three times longer and highly detailed navigation systems, enabling faster responses.
- Apocalypse proof: Engineered to remain in near perfect operational condition even if having been stored for long periods of time.
- Merchant Marine: Vast cargo storage bays capable of securing nearly any kind of expensive or basic cargo one could imagine
- No weapons: No way to fight back if cornered
- Variable refuel: How fast it refuels depends on how much moisture is in a given area it is landing in, and requires atmosphere to truly refuel. If inan atmosphere with low moisture saturation, it may take up to 14 hours. In a high moisture area, it can take as little as 21 minutes.
- Gas guzzler. Can only store enough power gathered from water to operate the ship for two weeks with all systems running. 4 week if only essential systems are running
- Ecological Risk?: A reason the technology was never explored further was because of environmental concerns from large numbers of ships visiting the same planet to obtain moisture--would it be possible to turn an oasis arid? It must always land at a breathable atmosphere, making its travel routes predictable, especially near core or water worlds.
- Maintainance concerns: The powerplant is delicate and its power output must be carefully monitored to avoid damage to containment systems. It requires much higher maintainance than normal
- Slow hyperdrive: At 3.0, you will definitely be playing pazaak to pass the time.
- Thin Hull: Its Hull is thinner than normal, leading to it being more easily pierced by kinetic weapons. Siesmic weapons can also do things.
The Gulag Plague Economic Continuation Corporation was a collective of business interests from various sectors that aligned to try and alleviate the economic devastation caused by the galactic pandemic on paper. In practice they were always an armed Corporate Junta looking to stamp out any competitors for trading vital goods across planets barely able to afford starship fuel. They bought out or bullied out every rival they came across, charging exhorbitant prices to transport even essentials, and the methods of collecting payment could be nightmarish if a client came short. Everywhere they managed to establish an outpost, was soon being used as a ferrying point for their intelligence operatives. Union leaders disappeared, Policeman were killed, even civilians in establishing their unquestioned dominance. GPECC was so ruthless at times they even occasionally disgusted high ranking members of Black Sun and the Exchange with the depths of their treachery and perfidy in pursuit of even an hour's profit. The average corporate GPECC meeting wasn't as awful as, say, a gathering at the Mos Eisley cantina, but its wasn't that far off in terms of Wretched Hives of Scum and Villany.
Eventually, their viciousness would be their undoing--A piracy action they committed against a civilian transport resulted in the death of a high ranking Czerka executive who had been traveling aboard.
Even during the Gulag Plague, Czerka was formidable. Their response was swift, practiced, and brutal, hiring the most notorious Assassins in the Galaxy, and in less than 72 hours, all high ranking Officials of GPECC had been executed and their assets seized.
These vessels were part of the actual trade portion of the business, their hydrolectric powerplant design vastly cutting down on the need to use hypermatter. It would have been revolutionary had it not been so much a presentation piece, and if they had been willing to spend another half decade at the drawing table. Instead, these vessels were used to wow investors who couldn't afford to pay too much on shipping. They are indeed powerful if used correctly, but are held back by the complications and expenses of caring for such a delicate, finicky system---almost threatening to negate the advantages of a non hypermatter dependant design, leading to constant use and transport as the only way of keeping one's head financially above water. Some vessels are occasionally found intact, floating as direlicts, or stored as rainy day emergencies in ancient abandoned drydocks. However you find it, treat it with respect...the technology used to make its powerplant is considered lost archeotech, and while it can be repaired to optimal conditions, replicating it is an immense difficulty.
