while we stand in wonder it coolly disdains

Personality and Beliefs

Goldmask is a man who has tried to solve the existential terror of living beneath the yoke of the Force's Will with ever more knowledge, until it drove him mad. Or so the fragments of his former life tell.

In truth--and he'd put it so--he managed to gain a different kind of sanity, in a category of its own.

He's an insatiably curious man. He builds systems obsessively, attempts experiments, and works variables to find the next key, and the next key, and the next key to series of doors that never ends. He's long operationalized every boundary of what's ethical or even sane to attempt in pursuit of a better theory of the cosmos, so as to understand the depths and limits of the Force itself.

Skills

Logic: The world, broken down to its very atoms.
Visual Calculus: Grasp the laws that bind causality.
Inland Empire: Look beyond the immediate and see the world of waking dreams.
Shivers: The world speaks if you listen to it. Don't shut it out.

Strengths & Weaknesses
  • Encyclopedic knowledge of the sciences
  • Considerable aptitude in applying the Force
  • Scholar, not a fighter
  • Poor physical health and conditioning

History

"Does life choose, or is it directed by a greater will?"

The question fascinated Goldmask ever since he became an Acolyte. He returned to it repeatedly throughout his life, at times by mere happenstance, but more often than not he found himself confronted with it as if by fate itself. As though whichever path he chose would eventually curve back toward the same impossible query.

Like a vonduun crab, it had buried itself so deep and become so entangled with his ego, that the pursuit of an answer became the single greatest driving force for a majority of his life.

As it often is, however, age brings with it the wisdom and the insight that one lacks in one's early years. In time, Goldmask abandoned his research and returned to more conventional pursuits. Power and prestige, among the people of the galaxy, became his new goal.

The man who emerged on the other side of that time was never quite the same, though. Whatever humanity he had surrendered in pursuit of knowledge never did return to him.
