Going Major

So I've been toying with this idea of us potentially going Major Faction. We have a lot of active people here doing one thing or another for the Faction. We have the required active writers, admins, and soon-to-be mods.

We have a lot of projects in the works and can have more in the future. But I want to make one thing clear. Most of us here are also members of the OS, so we will remain associated/attached to them but as a Major Faction, we will be an ally to the OS as well.

Thoughts?

Before you choice to go Major, I want you to think on what exactly you would provide? Government structure, armies, think on how those would be formed?

The same question came up for the Sith Assassins to go Major, but none of the above made sense for em. Think long and hard on that. We're all Sith, so why separate?

We are all sith but we're the pretty sith and honestly... if we did it right this could be a way to try and create a perfect society with Hapen style values to attract one fo the oldest civilizations in the galaxy.

really though I am just here for fun and so long as it doesn't feel inner circle clique with elitism I am for it.

As ever I can see both sides of both sides.

I like the idea of being a Major Faction in our own right. I think we're less niche than the assassins and that's in our favour.

But carrying two Major tags makes Invasions a nightmare. We could only represent the OS as allies (or this Faction if we decided the OS were our primary Faction). That might not present a problem, so as long as we understand what we're doing, it can work I'm sure.

So I'm keen to hear what others think :)

This.

But in all honesty, I think it would be cool to go major. I agree with [member="Melori Raaf"] in the sense that we'd be primarily representing the one sith. However, at the same time, I kind of want to wait till we're a bit more developed than we are now. : )

yeah we should wait until the facilities are done and we have places like the Treya station over Mugg Fallow done which could be out base. It is out in the unknown regions, protected and people invading it... I pity them.

I agree with everyone's assessment. We have some mountains to climb and conqueror but it's a goal not out of our reach. I'm not saying we go Major right away, but it's something as a collective we can strive toward.

We, most of us anyway, are Sith and that will never change. Not for me anyway. As [member="Darth Ferus"] pointed out, forming a stable government or direction would be key. But in regards to government, we can have a paper style government or a government that is powerful but takes a more NPC role. But we wouldn't be separating.....branching out. Think of it as long, dark tendrils engulfing the galaxy.

However, before we actually do go Major, we need to establish ourselves. Getting more involved in the galaxy, working with [member="Darth Ferus"]'s Assassins, and helping the OS. There is a lot of untouched planets in the galaxy and we can claim a portion of the galaxy for ourselves.

I'd prefer a mostly npc government. We could have people who want to be involved if they want and leave space open for them. I say we go major after we have built a vault and filled it with enough gems, gold and credits that we can all swim in.

The Second Seal, broken.
Alright, I'm going to start off by saying it's great that there's so much initiative in this faction and I think it's awesome that you guys want to do something, but I do have one simple question.

Why?

Why would you possibly want to do this? What do you gain by doing this?

Power? Not really, you have all the power you want in the One Sith; in fact, [member="Darth Venefica"], you're an admin of the OS and help make policy. If you split off from the One Sith you are actually making yourself weaker, as you would effectively be starting from the bottom. To add to this, there's this mistaken belief that the One Sith will simply become your allies; this, historically, has not been the case. The One Sith has opposed, and even helped destroy, every other Sith Faction that has ever arisen since it was around. Moreover, you would also be enemies of the Republic, the Mandalorians, Silver Jedi, Levantines, Rebel Alliance, Vitae, and any other lightsider factions that might spring up.

Planets? If you want to control certain planets you could most definitely go to the One Sith leadership and ask to control those planets. It has been done in the past and people got to run entire systems, our leadership is very lax.

Direction? You have direction; you have it right here, in this Minor faction, and you have it in the overarching One Sith Major faction as well. Absolutely nothing in this aspect would change as your general direction and mission statement would remain the same.

Story? I could see this, and I could see it being the biggest influence, but answer me honestly; is there a story you could you tell as a Major Faction that you couldn't as a Minor one? A break away from the Dark Lord? An attempt to make women more powerful in the One Sith? The latter makes little sense, seeing as women are and always have been an extremely powerful force in the One Sith: Daella, Mierin, Isolda, Matsu, yourself, me, to name a few; that's just a small number of those who quite literally carried the faction to multiple victories.

So why break away? What is the point? What do you intend to accomplish that you couldn't accomplish otherwise?

To finalize what I'm trying to say; this split would essentially be a carbon copy of what happened with the Republic and the Silver Jedi Order. If this faction breaks away and takes all of its active members, at least 8, you are essentially making the One Sith as an entity weaker. This is exactly what happened with the Republic, and it is part of the reason why the One Sith took Coruscant.

So, while yes, you would have your own faction, you would fracture both factions and render them less effective. The Republic has been on a losing streak since the Silver Jedi and the Levantines split away, and the Silver Jedi and the Levantines have basically just... existed. All three have suffered because of their inability to consider the long-term consequences of their actions, I implore you to learn from their mistakes.

You have put that so well!!!! You have made a lot of excellent pointes, and perhaps going major would possibly be a bad idea. :)

Splitting up would in essence be a bad idea and there is so much more we could accomplish as a minor faction.

Thank you for insight!!!! :)

I said I wanted to hear what others thought before coming down one side of the fence or the other - and some awesome points have been raised. Regardless of the OS characters sharing their views being a part of this Faction, they have a vested interest in its progress and therefore their input is invaluable.

These things are always difficult to balance. There always has to be a reason for going Major - typically a reason that's not being addressed presently. As mentioned throughout, none of us (I believe) want to leave the OS - but just wanted an additional avenue to explore our characters. Like Ferus' Assassins for example.

But as I mentioned before, going Major can have the unfortunate consequence of forcing people to choose - which was never the intention as far as I can see from Venefica's opening post. So I for one never saw it as "breaking away" but rather an opportunity to entice more writers to our cause - just via a different route.

Never is a strong word, but Major any time soon? It makes limited to zero sense. Let's keep developing the Sisterhood to support ourselves AND the One Sith and ensure (as Vrag so rightly points out) that history does not repeat itself. OK, their circumstances were different, but until you can be a member of two major Factions and represent both in an Invasion without impunity, this will need to remain a Minor Faction IMHO.

But that does not (as Vrag pointed out) stop the stories, the power or the control of our own destiny within the framework of the OS structure.

I don't want to be a Sister or a One Sith. I'm greedy, I want both.

Here's my take, despite this character being far from my main, but I do love to write her so I am going to do my best to get back into it.

I would highly recommend having the majority of things you need for a major faction in place before placing an application (Ships, Vehicles, Tech, Planets (If necessary), Species (Again if necessary), as well as major buildings and locations, and also a solid group of members willing to take this faction on as their primary in the event of (more or less guaranteed) invasions that will surely follow. You'd also want to consider where on the map you strategically place yourself.

I like the idea of a second Sith major faction, something different from what the OS currently is. It gives people choice, and that's a good thing. I for one would likely make this Mandy's primary faction, for what it's worth.
