[Aspect of Defiance]

Lunar Light, a holiday celebrated as one of the most important days in all of Entralla. It would be the first since Lord Draco had passed away. In many respects it would be bittersweet, but the people would not be without their celebrations, and House Draco would not be seen away from it either. They were the pillars of their society and as such they would have to be at the head of the crowds.

Too much had taken place since the Red Funeral. Lord Draco had been laid to rest and young Darius had passed as well. A shot had been taken against Ulysses, and many wondered if there had been retribution on the part of either house as the blame for both deaths seemed to be laid at his feet. Perhaps this would be a good way for House Renoux to pay their respects to both houses.

They were there to celebrate fallen warriors, and Ulysses would be sure his house was seen in front. It would mean setting aside some differences with House Draco, but the young covenant needed this event to succeed. Those remaining of House Amnen had been invited as well, but without young Darius they lacked the leadership which had been sympathetic to the cause of peace. This display could win them over, or it could further alienate them.

The proper preparations had been made to include the fallen warriors from all three houses in the parade. It would expand to reach further than Entralla’s orbit. Whether it was the right thing to do would remain to be seen. Until then, it was a real effort toward peace, and likely the most altruistic of any previous attempts.

The Braxant run needed the festival.


OBJECTIVES:

The Parade of the Dead would celebrate the warriors who had fallen in battle. This would include those of the recent alliance. Participants are encouraged to pay their respects to the fallen and mingle with those who share similar loss.

The night would not be a true celebration without a masquerade. Find your best mask for this event. You can be anyone or anything. No one has to know who is behind the mask. This time the alignment of your house does not matter.

His arm was in a sling, still. Whether Ulysses was still recovering or using the device as a way to gain the sympathy of the crowds was anyone’s guess. What he did know was that his injury seemed to do something to soften some of the sharp edges Lady Deyanira had in regards to him. Oh there was little change to their dynamic or how they interacted. It was just that she seemed to produce slightly less venom.

Tonight was a night to enjoy themselves, and later the grand Duke would join the masquerade which he had told his children to enjoy. In what seemed to be a rare showing for Ulysses, he was not requiring his children to play the role of noble or future monarch. After the attempt on his life it would be better for him to stand alone, save for Gideon with him. It was also important Deyanira was at his side as they needed to provide a united front in whatever response came from their recent troubles.

Her husband was dead.

Darius was now dead.

Ulysses had survived a failed attempt on his life.

One thing was clear. The peace they were seeking had its enemies. Ulysses wanted to draw them out, and this celebration was the best way. Oh he certainly hoped they would not be foolish enough to attempt something with so many justicars hidden about with masks. They were more than protected. The celebration itself would fly in the face of whatever attempts there were to bring them down. The only thing which could make the message more clear would be a representative from House Amnen with them.

Uly stood on the platform of the float which would lead off the parade. They would be leaving soon.

“Have you heard from House Amnen on whether they would be sending someone,” his question was directed to Deyanira. This was her event after all. The invitations had been sent by her house. “It would be good if our three houses were seen here.”

He smiled. Then paused. His features softened.

“You look beautiful.”

There were none around save Gideon to hear, and he was already privy to their past.

Raze stood in front of a mirror. His suit was certainly something he was not used to. Perhaps he could have gotten used to the look of nobility, but that had been taken from his family when the Justicar was too young to know it. Had he known his true lineage it would likely not matter now, but it would make him curious about many things. The primary question being why he had been allowed to live.

Roxy was not going to recognize him.

The thought made him smile. Whether it was a good thing or not, the warrior liked the fact she would not be able to pick him apart from the rest. All of the Justicars not participating in the parade had been instructed to wear plainclothes and blend into the masquerade. The only other requirement was they conceal their weapons. Oh, Raze was well aware he was still working, but at least all of them would be able to experience life as a noble for at least one night.

“Maybe we will all find ourselves waking up in the bed of some noble after tonight,” one of the other’s boasted.

“I hear some of the women are actually pretty easy.”

Raze put his fist into the mirror.

“We are still their protectors,” he said as he pulled a small shard of glass from his knuckle. “Fething great…”

He lifted the bleeding hand to his lips and sucked on it for a second and winced. The others came to him quickly with a bacta spray and a bandage.

“We’re sorry,” they echoed.

“Just don’t forget your duty. There are many beautiful women, even among our own station. Be content with your station, and let the good things of life come to you. We do not aspire to be kings. We protect them.”

They nodded, and Raze left. He tied his mask as he left and placed the golden flower in his lapel. It was how he told Roxanne to find him. The irony of his scolding of the others was not lost on him. Yet, Raze had always known what existed between him and Roxy, neither of them had chased. They simply accepted it for what it was.

Tonight was the one night where they could share it openly without anyone being any the wiser.

LIKE A PRAYER​

It was one thing after another.

Lord Draco dying, Romin going missing, her accidentally killing Darius, Romin turning up and not acting like himself. And then the latest was the attempt on her father's life just as she was starting to come to terms with Darius' death. Luckily the Iron Duke wasn't as easily disposed of. But it had shaken her knowing how easy they had gotten to him to begin with. And now he was in the open on a float like a big neon sign saying "Come and get me".

It was disconcerting.

Enough that Roxy just went through the motions as she was swept across the plain for the sixth time that evening, the silver the only things catching the light in her automatic movements. In the end, grey-green eyes were only looking for only one telltale sign - a golden flower. Belonging to the one person that could bring calm to the broiling storm of worry within her. The same person that had gotten her through her guilt of Darius' death.

"Thank you, m'lady." The masculine voice broke through her internal thoughts as they slowed to a stop.
"Oh yeah, thanks." she said automatically, plastering a smile on her masked face before walking away from him, the faux smile sliding from her face as she went.

The glint of gold caught her eye in the crowd as light reflected from it. Looking toward it fully, a golden flower shone brightly on a snow-white draped chest. A chest she knew as well as her own name. Like a silver moon drawn in by the sun, she made her way toward the almost unrecognisable Raze. Had it not been for the years of nights of training together, she wouldn't have recognised him at all.

As she appeared at his side out of the crowd, she linked her arm through his. There was little to no risk tonight of them getting caught.
"You should dress like this more often. It suits you." she said softly, feeling the worry in her chest already lifting slightly. Then her eyes found the bandage on his hand.

"Please tell me that was your stupidity and not another threat on my father's life?"

"A masquerade?" Arlo asked, his head canted curiously. He knew what it was - a fancy party where all the guests hid their faces behind elaborate masks. It just seemed odd for Braxant nobles to embrace anonymity when they were so emboldened by outward displays of conflict, but perhaps that was precisely the point; A great deal of plotting and conniving could be done, only if for a night, behind an unrecognizable visage.

Much would be happening tonight, carried on my masked nobles. But for a young lad like Arlo, the masquerade would be little more than an opportunity to enjoy the evening without peering eyes.

The boy looked to the house attendant, a tall, slender teen not much older than he was. He'd taken the liberty of procuring a clean, white suit and an array of masks for the evening.

"Will Mother be there?" Arlo asked, knowing well that Tyonna Arkose was quite... preoccupied these days. Still, he hoped she would find her way to the festivities. She needed a night of festivity, and Lunar Light wouldn't feel quite the same without her. Or Uncle Romulus Vel for that matter.

"I cannot say, my lord," the teen replied. He gestured to the selection of masks: A smooth, white face with few defining features besides a pair of unmoving lips and eyeholes cut for seeing; An avian visage cast in a deep indigo that resembled a raven; And a jet-black fox, geometric in design and laced with gold streaks that reminded him of a topographical map.

Arlo smiled softly, pointing to the vulpine mask.

"This one," he said. The attendant smirked.

"Feeling mischievous tonight, are we?"

"Only if Uncle Rom is there," Arlo giggled. "He's the only one who doesn't tattle to Mother!"
