Private Gifts

Naboo's air was different. Meya noted the taste of it as she walked and slipped a hand into a hidden pocket near her chest. From it, she pulled out a slender device.

The device's surface came alive after recognizing Meya’s face. A series of shifting figures and symbols occupied the display. The witch studied them for several seconds, her golden eyes moving from one measure to the next before her thumb passed across the screen and the display changed.

Nothing appeared immediately concerning to her, so she returned her attention fully to where she was walking.

Rather than the black robes and layered adornments of a Nightsister, she wore an outfit from Thustra to lean into her Sephi heritage. She had heard that the Republic discriminated against her people and decided she didn’t need the trouble.

Truthfully, she had not expected to hear from Lysander again. She thought that chapter of her life closed. The invite from him had caught her sufficiently off guard, enough that she had stared at it for several moments before responding.

While originally she intended to rescue him from a prison cell, his pardon and decision to remain within Republic space had changed matters. If he was content with his new circumstances, Meya saw little reason to intrude upon them.

That did not mean the events surrounding him had been without consequence. She'd begun looking into opportunities for business within Republic space not long after. How word of that particular interest had reached Lysander, she could not say. She trusted, however, that he had not summoned her across the galaxy without something worthwhile to offer.

So here she was.

A single guard followed several paces behind her, while a servant walked on the opposite side carrying a single gift. Meya had acquired the habit of gift giving long ago, during her time among the Hutts. There were customs one absorbed without realising it, and this was apparently one of hers.

The first gift rested inside a small polished, wooden box. Within it lay a green-tinted crystal sphere, perfectly smooth under the dark soft cloth surrounding it. Dark green mist moved slowly within the crystal's translucent depths, curling upon itself.

The second gift was the relinquishment of her claim on Lysander, something she'd need to speak aloud. She imagined that living within Republic space while remaining claimed by a Dathomiri witch was not precisely the sort of detail that improved one's reputation.
