The way in which her visage had been caught up in the sparse light of a nearby window set his heart and mind into frantic motion.

Like a ghost she drifted through the halls of that oppressive Academy with an ethereal aura and gliding gait, dark robes flowing behind her yet hardly revealing the way in which she stepped, one foot in front of the other. A true specter, she descended back into his life with a sudden jolt, forcing waves of emotion to wash over the boy. He could do little more than stare. With her soft features, and dirty blond hair, she looked to him like a child caught up in the madness, despite the front she tried to place before herself. The mask he could tell she wore even from what felt to be a mile away.

At first he believed his mind was betraying him. The walls which lined that hall seemed to shrink in on themselves, lying crooked and threatening to topple... But the boy was not one for seeing such, much less believing it, he'd never been on the receiving end of trickery of that sort, at least not since Belkadan; no, when he saw something it was usually what was truly there.

Still, it was hard to trust his mind on this one.

He had not seen that girl since they parted ways, since he had been initially sent to the Academy to train. Not this Academy, of course, no... He might have preferred his time there if he had faces he knew around him, but he hadn't. He'd been alone, and no doubt so had she.

She was older now, of course, but she had hardly changed at all. He, on the other hand? Well he was even younger than she was, and back then that difference in age had been so abundantly clear that the catching up he'd done since made him a fresh-faced individual.

As such, when he approached the girl all at once she did not recognize him.

Reaching out, without saying a word, he grasped her right wrist and pulled it up from her side, and even as she fought to regain control of it he held firm, his grip vice-like. He even had to weave back to avoid a slap no doubt aimed at his cheek, the very tips of her fingers grazing his skin, enough to send tremors down his spine yet not to even remotely sting.

His eyes fell down, boring holes into the wrist he'd exposed from beneath it's sleeve.

When he saw it there, that ugly brandish that raised white against her already pale skin, all of his thoughts were confirmed. His face dropped, and her own expression seemed to resemble understanding once she saw what he'd been looking at.

Her struggles waned, before she rolled back his own sleeve to find... Well, not a brand. But there was discoloured skin where it ought to have been, almost as though a fresher, larger scar had been formed.

Thesh could not quite find the words he needed to say, but in the end it didn't matter. She uttered one word, leaning in close to whisper it in his ear, questioningly, alluring yet demanding all at once, and when she pulled back her eyes bored into his, waiting for an answer.

That word released the constriction he'd been feeling in his throat, and the boy let out a long yet quiet sigh.

"Belkadan," he confirmed, reiterating the questioning word she'd whispered in his ear just moments before. And then, without caring to look at those who lay around them, despite the fact that some were staring, or eavesdropping, despite the fact that usually the boy was craven as could be, he spoke once more, becoming the driving factor in their conversation.

"Hello, Senth. The years seem to have treated you well..."
